I purchased an entire Definitive Technology Surround set-up in December. I use the BP2004 as Fronts; C/L/R 2002 as Center; and BP6B's as Rear Surrounds. I have been so impressed by there sound that I wanted to share to with everyone my feelings about the speakers. I wanted to have a great home theater package, and I do not believe you can find a better set-up for the money. The Bass from the BP2004 makes you feel like you are a Character in the Movie. I have friends come over, and watch movies and they can hardly believe the sound quality that this system reproduces. I was a very fortunate to run across these speakers. I got this entire system for less than $1500.00. I found a dealer that was closing out there entire inventory of Definitive Technology. This was a one of kind deal that I know I got the better end of. This package would have easily have cost me over $2500.00 else where. The funny part is that it would easily be worth the $2500. I would recommend these speakers to anyone who wanted an awesome surround system.

I got these a month ago (5/99) and was torn with how I perceived their quality. The ease of the soundstage was the most impressive to me. I could get up and
walk around the living room and the treble did not collapse-which is very very
impressive. However, compared to Infinity speakers, which I've owned on and off for the past 20 years, the treble output left alot to desire. I had to jack my treble up a full 12db to get a 'normal' high end output on my system-unacceptable to me. Plus I could not tame the bass, which is too 'rap' oriented for my tastes, and please remember, these are my tastes. I did audition them again in 3 other dealers different show rooms. Comparing a recording of the Rolling Stones "Out Of Tears" on a pair of Martin Logans Aeries 1 then going over and playing the same on the bp2004's.....my hunch was right-with the tone controls totally flat the bp2004's had significantly less treble than the Martin Logans. And the bass made everything sound artificially extended ie: mushy. When Charlie Watt's kick drum sounds overly 'Loose' is when I know that something is amis. So in ending, I really did try to fall in love with these speakers, I even bought a pair of Cambridge Tower 1`'s(which are shit), but I couldnt reinvent my preferences for music. So I went with the Infinity Overture 3's which I will be receiving in two days.......

I have had the BP2004 for about 5 months now - they are compeletly broken in, and now all I can say is WOW! What an awesome sound they produce - great highs, mids and of course those lows. They are great for either listening to music or watching a movie to - once they are broken in, you will get in trouble because they beg to be cranked up and they sound better the louder they go.
Do yourself a favor and check these speakers out - I think you will be impressed.

I auditioned the BP30's and found that the bass just wasn't there. I then listened to the Pro Tower 400's and these speakers were a little punchy, but sounded good. The sales guy suggested that I try the 2004's as it seems that these just might be better for my tastes. As soon as I heard these speakers I knew that these were at the top of my list to choose. Great clear highs, not 'ear-bleeding', crisp mids with excellent vocals, and deep bass that didn't over power the mids. I then listened to the C/L/R 2002 - center and with only these three speakers I was really impressed with movie dialog and music score. I have auditioned Polk Audio (not impressed), KEF's (nice well rounded speakers probably my second choice), Canton's (excellent speakers, but big $$$), Dynaudio (also excellent speakers, but very expensive), Martin Logans (not enough bass for my tastes and way, way, too much money). So, if I can pull together a good deal I'm going to get these speakers, I think the list price is a little on the high side ($1498/pr) and there are probably other speakers that are worthy of this price, but these are one brand/model that is worthy enough to get. I could see these speakers not being replaced for a very, very, long time as the sound of Bi-Polar speakers just seems to ring true to music and home theater. Give these speakers a try, you won't be disappointed, unless you're not accustomed to the awe-inspiring 'liveliness' of Bi-Polar.

Over the past 5 months I have read every review on the Deftech Speakers. I finally decided to audition the BP2004 since these were in my price range. (It took me along time to find a dealer near where I live. I must admit that I was expecting to be blown away with these but I wasn't. They just didnt seem to completely immerse me in the sound like I thought they would. The Deftech center speaker (I don't remember the model) was very bright and quite annoying. I also listened to the BP 2002s, they sound alittle better but were alot more money. I then stopped in Tweeter and listened to the Mirage OM8s system. These speakers totally amazed me. This was the sound I had expected with the DEFTECHS. I am hooked on the omnipolar sound. I can't wait to but these instead of the Deftechs.

I am very impressed with the sound of the BP2004 speakers!
I got a "great" deal on them from my local United Audio store so I purchased the matching center and Bipolar Rears. I am running these through a Sony STR50ES (100watts X5 per channel) with the LFE outputs from the receiver into the speakers. It took me a little while (and some assistance from an audiophile friend with a good sound meter) to dial the speakers in. But WOW... do they sound great for movies and music. I can get the hair to stand up on the back of my neck with "Hotel California" from the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" DTS DVD. Even my audiophile freind (who proably has $50k in his listening room) was impressed with the nice sound field. I would love to hear what these would sound like if I had the power to drive them... After 1 month of driving them, I think they actually sound better.

Strength:

Bipolar sound, built-in powered sub, big sound for a small size and cost.

Weakness:

Very low, loud bass can overpower the small transmission line vent.

I was shopping for a subwoofer to add to my older satellite speaker system. Then I read about the DefTech speakers with built in powered subwoofers. My local HiFi store had the BP2004 and the larger DefTech bipolar speakers all in one sound room. I listened to each of them using several kinds of music.

First off, the DefTechs all sounded better than similarly-priced speakers, no question. And, the $1500 BP2004 sounded the same as the $4500 DefTech speakers. Only at higher volume levels could you hear a difference.

In short, I bought the BP2004 set, 15% off list, and have been very happy with them in my moderately sized home listening room. I especially like them for action movie soundtracks in Dolby Digital 5.1 with deep bass, like the movie Ronin. These speakers actually rattle the framed posters on the wall!!

Strength:

Excellent reproduction of vocals

Weakness:

Slightly mushy bass on some sources

After reading all the reviews it seems some of the reviewers here are not keeping in mind the old adage "Garbage in = Garbage out". I supply my BP2004's with a nice clean 250W each and absolutely love the way they sound with music and home theatre both. I recently added a Theta Data Basic CD transport and Theta Cobalt DAC and have discovered depth on CD's I never knew was there. These speakers produce a sweet sound with nice round tones. I have to really wonder what components the poor reviewers were using to make these speakers sound bad to them. Maybe they're just a little deaf.

Strength:

good sound reproduction, excellent for my home theater and music tastes

Weakness:

none

Good value for price range... high acceptance factor from spouse regarding appearance and sound quality. Used with C2 (for now due to size constraint in entertainment center, would like to upgrade next year) and BP1X rears, Sony DB-930 receiver.

Strength:

Built in powered sub, thin profile and very classly clean look.

For DVD fans these speakers are a no brainer. The sound will blow you away. Check out the Matrix with these fired up and you'll see. As far as music goes they sound sweet but I admit I primarly use them for home theater.
