I subscribe to Stereo Review, and I saw this speaker listed in with the new models. I have not had the terror of listening to it, but my 2002s are enough to scare me good and well. Why anyone short of George Lucas himself would need two 1000 watt eighteen inch subs is beyond me, but for whoever you are, make sure all furniture in your hometheater room is bolted securely to the floor!

Regarding the last two reviews, c'mon guys you have not even given the 3000's an audition....... The 1000 watt sub is not necessarily overkill, it is just 5.23dB louder than you BP-2000 (assuming the woofers have the same sensivity) it is the same headroom that you get when you crank up the volume from 5 watts to 16.6 watts..... not that great is it? Added to the fact that digital sources now have dynamic ranges of 30-40 dB simply means that you can set your levels at 5.23 dB higher with a BP-3000 than with a BP-2000 ( or 3.33 watts as opposed to 1 watt ) for ambient/ dialogue levels to get peaks of 30 dB of undistorted power. This again is not lifelike, even with the BP-3000's, we will still be short of SPL levels in real world, i.e 140 dB for a jet a mile away, 170 dB for a machine gun 3 feet away etc. The 3000's would only go up to 122 - 125 dB's.
Power apart, My concerns are that Definitive tends to keep the same mid/high drivers in it's high end systems that it has in the lower range, so basically you pay a higher price for more quantity not necessarily more quality. ( again I have not auditioned the 3000's so I do not want to be judgemental ). But unless I see radical quality difference at low levels, I would like to reserve my opinion about them.

I have auditioned this pair with Music & Theatre. It is a great pair of speakers. I listened to an opera song. The low frequency from all kind of instruments just filled up the room nomatter where you stayed. The high frequency is crispy clear. The reproduction is so real with no exaggerating. For movies, it seemed to be better in the theatre. Although the volume was not turned up too high, you could tell the ceiling and the floor are shaking. I stood at different positions and I still found the sound quality was so great.
I am so impressed by the remarkable sound quality and the low frequency. I will definitely own it if price is not a concern. It is selling at Cdn$7,100.

The monster BP 3000 are just that monsters. The sound is not five star materialunless you listen to top 40 songs and want to shake the ground.Yes the monsters have monster subs and have a nice flashy 1000W rating for the sub amp and that is about it.These spaekers sound good but to call them THE BEST is simply funny.
There are far superior speakers from Martin-Logan,Dynaudio,Avalon,Sonus Faber,Revel just to name a few.Not as much slam but much more musical, the godzilla like BP 3000 are as subtle as a beast.5/5 for the shake DA floor,2/5 for musicality.Ah I am generous 3/5 overall.

Once again there are "audiophile guys" complaining about how these speakers sound like crap....get real and smell the coffee. Like a few of the smart reviewers here I agree that these are in a more HT cat. They are not marketed as class AAA music speakers costing twice as much and up. Heck, it's hard to fault them even for music! In terms of real value and long term investment, these are the best I have seen. So, I don't think that HT Mag would have gave them a 95 rating if they were sounded like Best Buy Eosones. Point is, don't buy em if you're a hard line "Wilson Watt Puppy" type of listener. The very best in this class IMHO. Most of the bad reviews are from guys who know they bought the wrong thing and are jealous it seems.happy listening

don't get me wrong def tech speakers are excellent speakers for HT, but these speakers lose some details and muddy for music.. I heard many speakers. Finally last month I bought mirage om6, I love these speakers for music, but I still need a sub for HT. That is why I get def tech pf 18 since I love the deep bass from this brand ... I give 4 starswell enjoy your bp3000 if you already bought them....

The monster BP3000 are hype, and more hype. Most of you should listen toDynaudio Contour 3.3 just to hear what great sound is all about.Your
monster MegaBass BP3000 may play louder but when sound quality is key
its washed away by any Dynaudio.

The monster BP3000 are great for Top40 hits and bam slam movies.3/5
and I am generous.

Some background: This review is made after listening to Legacy Focus and Whisper (Elite DVD and CD Player - forgot model #, with Legacy monoblocks), Martin-Logan Aerius and SL3 (Marantz Receiver and CD Player, forgot amp and DVD player), Hales Revelation 3 and Transcendence 3 (Rotel Amp and CD Player), NHT 2.5i (Rotel Amp and CD Player), 2.9, and 3.3 (Sony 355ES CD Player and Sony TA9000ES amplifier stereo mode), Definitive Technologies BP2000, and BP3000 (Sony 355ES CD Player and Sony TA9000ES amplifier stereo mode), PSB Stratus Silver-i (Rotel Receiver + Amp, Denon DVD Player, and another config which is Bryston amp + Rotel CD Player + forgot what preamp), DynAudio Audience 40 (Krell CD Player and Receiver), Snell (forgot what model, but it's $1400 a pair with McIntosh amp + Sony 5 CD changer player), McIntosh ML4C (Marantz DVD Player with all McIntosh amp/receivers). See my other reviews on these speakers for a perspective of what I want in sound.
All the speakers above I've heard in different places/room/situations/conditions and might affect the judgement of that particular speaker, so take this with a grain of salt, and more importantly, LISTEN to them if you are interested. This is just an OPINION of mine of those speakers I've heard. Full disclosure: I haven't bought any of these speakers, but right now I'm leaning toward the NHT 3.3, since I can buy them (1 year old) at around $2500. All the speakers I've heard will either get 3 to 5 stars, since I don't believe any speakers at this price range is capable of getting 1 star (If they do, how many star is my $10 computer speaker? If it's also 1, I'm sure the speaker reviewed will be a LOT better than my $10 computer speaker). A 5 can only be awarded to live performance, and so far I haven't heard anything that sounded like live performance (meaning you can't distinguish whether an instrument sound came out of a real instrument or a speaker).

The BP3000 has more base than I can handle, even more base than my base-head friend can handle. But I'm looking for the musical side of speakers, so I should say I DON'T want it in my musical setup. As HT goes, it works well. How well? I don't know, since I do not test it there. I actually prefer the BP2000, since it has less base, but then again, I do not like TOO MUCH base. Just enough. One thing is, if you have a small room, the base will sound boomy with the 3000, and that's one thing that I don't like. Read my other reviews for a look at my taste.
