I somewhat agree with Frank. You need to find a match made in heaven and this is very difficult & time consuming. I have. My Sansui Z9000 took a dive and instead of repairing it one more time I spent countless hours looking & researching receivers to match the Eosones & Polks I have. I settled on the Nakamichi AV10. I must say the Nak sounds 1000% better than the Sansui did with the Eosones. I no longer second guess purchasing the Eosones as this receiver makes them sing. I now hear music from my CDs I never heard before. What a pleasurable experience! Great listening.

I think my points stand out clearly. “If you were fortunate enough to get them home and listen to them, you would have been amazed…” If someone can tell me what “people you like,” “listening to your own music,” and “a chair” have to do with good speakers, please let me know. No where did I claim that Best Buy was an excellent place to buy speakers. In fact, I would agree with Frank that at Best Buy, the speakers were probably worth a 3. HOWEVER, whether it was due to “acoustics” or wiring or any other factor, the speakers sound measurably better in a good listening environment. I can attest to this as I have heard them in such a room. IN SUCH A ROOM, the speakers are definitely worth a 4.
So here’s the bottom line. If you plan on taking your date to Best Buy to watch a movie, or if you plan on having your friends over to Best Buy to listen to some music, then do not buy the Eosones. But if you plan on having people over to YOUR place to enjoy the above activities, then definitely consider the Eosones. Especially if you can find someone selling them for around $1500.

It is Obvious that Darren has not auditioned a lot of gear.
First, in regards to finding a dealer, with “people you like” means find a dealer who will not pressure you, one who is honest about his products. One who will help you match your musical tastes to the correct gear, even if it is gear he doesn't sell. One who will leave you alone to listen (or at least be quite during listening). Second, “listening to your own music” Means taking your own CD's, selected because you like the music, and because it (if chosen correctly) can highlight strengths and weaknesses of the equipment (Unlike Best Buy that has music pre-selected for you in an automatic carousel). Lastly, in “a chair” has to do with listening position (critical to evaluating how the speaker was designed to sound), typically listeners cannot or do not sit down to listen to speakers.

The reason all this has something to do with speakers is you can make a better informed decision. You don't have to be "fortunate enough to get them home and listen to them". A dealer will have a room that will give you a good idea of what to expect when you get your purchase home. Of course, you are right that listening at home is important. A good audio dealer (like I have described) may be hard to find, but is invaluable. They have much more experience than you do. Equipment matching is very important. You could buy all "Class A" equipment and it may sound worse than the cheapest "Class D" if not matched properly.

You may think the Eosones are a "4". Have you ever heard a pair of $1000 to $1,500 PSB, Paradigms, B&W's, NHT's, Energy's, Snells, Vandersteens, Linn, Martin Logan's etc..?

I used to (and still do) love Honda's. But After I drove a Mercedes my relative scale changed. Some of the above companies make a "Mercedes" for what you are paying for your "Honda"

Frank

Note: I have not been as unreasonable as many others in different reviews, who would have given only 1 speaker because they are incapable of discerning a middle ground. These are not the best, neither are they the worst. That is reserved for Bose.

First of all, Darren never claimed to have auditioned a lot of gear. He merely enjoys stereo systems as a hobby, not his life blood.
Second of all, believe it or not, Darren does know what it means to find a dealer with people you like that will play your CD while you sit in a chair. Darren just happens to have more to do than make best friends with every dealer in town.

Thirdly, I will make my point one last time. Frank, have you ever listened to Eosones in the environment that you described? If not, how can you make a judgement as to how good they are? That is all I am trying to get across. I am not saying that you are not qualified to judge speakers. I am only saying that you are judging the Eosones at a Best Buy test track. That is like comparing your “Honda” to your “Mercedes” while the Honda has flat tires and nails on its track. Sure it may not be the best car out there, but how can you judge it based on completely different standards? Last I checked, every car magazine tested their cars on as even a playing field as possible. So I assume you are just guessing as to what the Eosones must sound like in your dealer’s listening room. So much for your “informed decision.”

Oh please! People, look at the speakers you are comparing these to. JBL, Infinity etc. All JUNK, from a consumer super store like Circuit City, Best Buy, Fry's Electronics etc. Listen to at least some in-expensive good speakers, Low end PSB's, Paradigms, B&W, Energy, Vandersteen, Something PLEASE. All these companies have lines that are cheaper than the Eosone junk and sound INFINATELY better.
To the guy at the bottom, it is pronounced "teal" but spelled Thiel, which leads me to believe you have never really heard Thiel CS 6's. No one who owns a Krell KRC (old or new) and a Krell KAS Amp would even audition the Eosone's. His skin would probably crawl just driving by a Best Buy (not even good for buying CD's). Get real.

These retail for $2000 !? And some stores charge that !? Many dealers will discount their lines. I can buy a pair of PSB Stratus GOLDi's, Vandersteen 3a's , Martin Logan Aerius i , Hale Revelation 3's, Thiel CS 1.5's, All Class B speakers for $1999. The Hales Revelation 2's and PSB Stratus Silvers retail for only $1,695! If you want BIG speakers with a lot of bass even try Klipsch (Man, can they play loud, that whole efficiency thing).

Spend some time, do some research, go and audition, listen for yourself.

Good Listening,

Frank

System:

Rotel RCD-971 - Dual 20 bit DAC HDCD player (Same DAC's as Krell KPS 20i)
Bryston B-60R - Integrated Amp
PSB Stratus Silver - Speakers
Silver Audio Silver Bullet 4.0 - Interconnects
DH Labs Silver Sonic T-14 - (two seperate runs) speaker cables

P.S. I am still reasonable and give them 3 stars, they aren't Bose (2) or some rack speakers (1)

Ok, let’s start with Frank. I’ll assume that Eosone had something to do with him losing his job or his hair, because he seems intent on dismissing any speaker they made (more on that later). I have the RSF 1000 speakers and the RSC 300 center channel speaker and the sound is amazing. I’ll admit that I got the 1000s for $550 as a promo when they first came out and they are definitely worth a 5 at that price. Now for Bob and SunnyPooh. If you listened to the speakers at Best Buy, I bet you the bass did sound boomy and unclear, as they did when I listened to them at the store. But if you were fortunate enough to get them home at listen to them, you would have been amazed at the difference. I don’t know what this can be contributed to but I assume it has something to do with the way Best Buy hooks up their speakers. At home, the speakers sound clear and powerful with an amazing range.
My upstairs neighbors at my old apartment complex often challenged me with their Bose setup. They usually conceded defeat after I would shake the magazines off the coffee table in their living room with the bass from the 1000s. Needless to say these speakers are great for keg parties, and they also generate much interest and inquiries from partygoers.
However, this whole discussion is moot because Eosone has gone out of business. And if anyone knows where I can pick up some RSR 350 surround speakers I’d love to hear from you. But I’d say the 1000s were worth a 4 at $1400-1600.

I think my point stands out clearly. Go listen to good speakers. If you go to a dealer (find a nice one, with people you like) you can listen to your own music (unlike most Best Buy stores) in a chair (99% of all speakers dispersion pattern's are designed to be listened to sitting down) and relax.

Duh, it is call acoustics. Best buy and all the other mega stores do not have good room setup. They never take into account the room resonance (80 Hz for a lot of the world's average size listening rooms) standing nodes, best seating placement etc.

Just give a listen to the other brands I mentioned (there are several other good brands too). They all have excellent speakers starting at $199. Stereophile is not the end all of sources, but reading it is a good place to start. STAY away from Stereo Review!!.

Listen, listen, listen to as many speakers as you can. Judge for yourself.

Lines I heard before buying my speakers (I am definately not an impulse shopper)

Acoustic Research, Advent, B&W, BIC, Bose, Cambridge Soundworks, Cerwin Vega, DCM, Definitive Technologies, Dynaudio, Energy, Eosone, Gekko, Genesis, Hales, Infinity, JBL, Jmlabs, Kef, KLH, Klipsch, Legacy Audio, Linn, Martin Logan, Monitor Audio, NHT, Paradigm, Phase Tech, Polk, Proac, PSB, Revel, Snell, Tannoy, Vandersteen, VMPS, Wilson Audio.

No I haven't heard it all, Speakers I still want to hear before I "upgrade":

Aerial Acoustics, Audio Artistry, Audio Physic, Celestion, Dunlavy, Eggleston Works, Epos, ESP, Gallo Audio, Joseph Audio, Magnepan, Meridian, Mirage, Near, PBM Montana, Quad, Sonus Faber, Sound Labs, Thiel, Totem, Von Schweikert, Waveform.

Strength:

Excellent value for the price, premium components, and very sexy looking.

Weakness:

Don't use your cheapy low current power receivers

These speakers sing like you never heard it before with two high current mono blocks putting out 120 amps of current.
I give 5 stars easy.

Similar Products Used:

Polk, Legacy, Carver Amazing, etc.

I just purchased the eosone RSF1000 from best buys for $1400.00.The regular price is $2000.00 for two .What a great pair of speakers. The highs and and the bass sounds are clear not muffled ,My brother has a pair of infinity overtures3 and he listened to these and like them as much as his, and could,nt believe i paid the price i did.He said if he would have know that these would be that price he would have brought these instead of paying $2500.00 like he did for his... Even when i emailed eosone they said the specs are all very close to the infinity 3 ..Eosne was the co founder and former ceo of infinity ,thats why they are right there with them.. Anyway what GREAT sound.Anyone that does,nt like these must have a hearing problem...Dave

I just purchased the eosone RFS 1000 from best buys(display,s)cause thats all they had left...I got them for $800.00 for two. These sound great for the price you can,t beat it..I know they are no infinity overtures or energys spaeker or other great brands but these are( no junk) speakers as some people would say by no means. You pay $300.00 for woofers by themselves in a seperate box with controls..One things is for sure ,the woofers are not that( boomy) as some people would say..I would compare these to the polk rt2000p .....Happy listening....
