Strength:

Can plany loud even with a small AMP. Has some depth to the sound stage though not much.

Weakness:

Bass is boomy and exagerated in the upper bass area. Lower Midrange is very exagerated. Upper midrange is very weak.

Several months ago I auditioned these speakers several times but decided to buy the Monitor Silver Series for my main and HT system. I'm very very happy with the Monitors. When I needed a another set of speakers for the Den I noticed the Infinity Overture 2 at U-bid so I placed a Bid and WON! When the speakers arrived they had numerous chips nicks and scratches (I guess U-Bid consiters damaged, scratched, and dented as "referbished" so beware!) Since I had received a good deal (850.00 for the pair) I decided to keep these speakers as chips and scratched should not affect the performance.

I quickly hooked these up next to my Monitor Silver 5's to compare and WOW what a difference. The Infinities are no where near as accurate at the Monitors!!! The Infinities are a great rock and roll speaker though as they tend exagerate and bring forward the bass, however it is not very tight. And drum solos are ausome on the Infinitys That exagerated Lower midrange and upper bass again. However other than that that they are no where near the class of speaker as the Monitors IMO.

To summarize:
Since the normal price of the Infinities is in the neighborhood of $1,200.00 the cabnet is not the greatest and the grills are the cheapest I have come accross bar NONE. And there a lot of speakers that sound much better for a lot less I give the infinity's 2 stars for value. and 3 stars for overall sound performance.

Strength:

Great Sounding Speaker!!!

Weakness:

None

After auditioning speakers for approx. 4 months, I was blown away by the Overture 2s. I listened to every decent mid range speaker at 6Ave, Circuit City, TOPS, Wiz... you name it I was there and heard them all, but I kept going back to the Overture 2s. My only problem was price! Those stores wanted 1100 each!!! Anyway, I finally got my big break on UBID with a price that was perfect for my pockets. BUY, BUY, BUY!!!

Strength:

Sounds balanced to me...and smooth, the imaging and soundstage sound better to me than anything i've heard before

Weakness:

6.5" woofers bottom out to easily, bass you can really hear, but not feel.

I think this is a great speaker, even though I spent more money than I was planning too. They are definitely worth it, and when I have more money, I'll get a sub with a high pass crossover at 80hz to make these things sound really great. Paid 760 after shipping from UBID. My friend has the ovtr 3's and they sound similar, but more bass.

Strength:

Very good image, Very smooth

Weakness:

Speaker Grille is weak and easy to break.

I have used them for 6 months. Love them very much. The sound image is good. The built in sub woofers provide strong bass. I bought them at UBid, paid $407 each. The posts of the speaker grille are weak. If you are not careful install it,
you will break the post easily. I broke one. But Infinity provide very good service, I called their service department, they sent me the replacement on next day. I received it 4 days later.
I also have Infinity CC3 as center speaker and Reference 2000.5 as rear speakers. Receiver- HK AVR75.

Incredible sounding bass, midrange, and treble

The Infinity OVTR2 is a wonderful sounding speaker. I personally have had no problems with them and I am extremely pleased with the performance, appearance, and value of the OVTR2. I have been looking for an OVTR1-cc ever since. If anyone knows where I might find one, please let me know. Thanks.

I just bought the Overture 2's yesterday and I was blown away. I'm 30 years old, but when I put my favorite CD in and sat in front of the speakers, I started giggling like a 12-year-old. I have never heard sound that rich and clear before. The highs poured out smoothly, the mids were rich and defined, and the bass was phenominal -- which completely surprised me. I didn't think a speaker could hit so hard with only dual 6 1/2's.
In any event, do yourself a favor and pick these babies up. Don't worry about your amp's power as these have internal amp that will push your music like no other. Well done Infinty -- very well done.

I went out looking for speakers to replace my Cerwin Vega R30s. I wanted 8 ohm speakers and was willing to spend $1000 on a pair. When I went to our local SoundTrack, I listened to a bunch of JBLs, Polk Audio, Bose, and when I heard these I was amazed. Crystal clear sound, strong bass. The salesperson told me he could get me some O1s for about $400 a peice. Then he said that he cound get me these O2s for $800 each. Finally he came back and said $1400 for the pair. While this was much more than I expected to pay for speakers, I really like them. They are small enough that they easily fit in my small townhouse but have really strong sound for my home theater. I recommend them for anyone who wants great sound. By the way, Circuit City offered by some dinged up demos for $799 each, with a broken foot.

Strength:

Good imaging, don't need an extra sub, music and movies sound great

Weakness:

Poor grille fastener design, sub off switch, sub level behind P.I.T.A. grille, I need to put them in a bigger room to really be able to appreciate them

I bought these without even trying them out in the store, but I needed to get mains that matched my CC-3 center and RS-3 rears. I really wanted to get something that had a built-in sub/amp so I could balance the low frequency band throughout the room. For the price, I don't think I could have done any better. I finally have a voice-matched system that kicks some butt.

My system consists of:

Sony STR-DA777ES receiver
Sony DVP-S550D DVD player
Sony CDP-CA80ES CD player
JVC 9600 S-VHS VCR
Sony 32" Trinitron TV
Monster Cable HTS2000 Power Conditioner

Allow me to provide the previous reviewer, Brad, with some helpful hints on how he should have used his Overture 2s.
I've got the sub level on 2.5 (I initially had it at 3.5 out of 10), the speaker is 10" from the wall and each speaker about 4 feet in from the corners of the room, I installed the carpet spikes and I've got the speakers "focused" on the sweet-spot on the couch. Contrary to what Brad said, these speakers are not made of "ultra-thin wood" and plastic. And if they were, they'd be made of 50 pounds of ultra-thin wood and plastic. It seems to me that Brad took little, if any, time to set these speakers up and went back to his RS-5s. While these are great speakers, they took no brains what-so-ever for him to set up--probably why he really likes them. Remember what the Scarecrow said? If I only had a brain... He probably put the Overture 2s four inches from the wall and put the sub level at 8. These speakers really need room to breathe, even with the sub level where I have it.

Less can certainly be more in some situations, Brad.

Let me get back to my review.

I mainly use the Auto Format Decode function on my 777 which is just two channel stereo. But with the way the speakers are "focused", I swear that the center channel is working and the Overture 2s aren't when I'm sitting in the sweet-spot. The first time I heard this I was blown away!
Music comes alive as do DVD movies. With the subs in each speaker, low frequency is well distributed in the room, but as I said before, 2.5 on the sub level is almost too much in a small room.

Overall, I'm very pleased with these speakers, especially for the price. The other option I had was to get rid of my Infinity set-up and spend alot more money on a Polk RT2000i-
CS400i-f/x500 set-up.

If you can find 'em cheap, I wouldn't pass them up.

Strength:

Excellent sound.

Weakness:

Cheap grills. Annoying powered subwoofer automatic shutoff.

I have enjoyed these speakers so far. After getting annoyed with the powered subwoofers cutting out after about 3 minutes without receiving a bass signal (esp. for watching movies and for some classical music)I was able to take the speakers to an authorized Infinity repair center and get the shutoff time lengthened to about 45 minutes (covered under warranty). Now, I am quite satisfied (with the exception of the cheap grills).

They are excellent for listening to music and can be good for home theater if one is not a bassphile/addict (I think they have plenty of bass). The sound staging is superior, though one might have to play with positioning them just right. I can hear details in some of my music that I never heard before. Unfortunately, these speakers can also reveal the poor recording of some cds (as the previous poster pointed out).

My system includes:
-- HK AVR-65 (an excellent receiver despite the bad press it received early on)
-- Toshiba SD 3109 DVD player (gotta love that HDCD capability)
-- Fronts - OVTR 2
-- Center & Rears -- OVTR 1

Price paid: I bought them through Ubid for around $575/pr (hard to beat that price). Don't buy them at the retail price.

Overall, awesome speaker and price.
