When I auditioned the Infinity Compositions Overture 2 speakers, I was fortunate enough to be able to compare them with the similarly priced Carver AL-III Plus speakers. Although the Infinity's are not bad, they are obviously inferior to the Carver speakers. The ribbon driver in the Carver speakers gives a much better presentation, with a greater sense of spaciousness and realism. If you can find them, listen to the Carver speakers. But if you can give up some bass and still want realism, try the Magnepan MMG's for $500 (then again, with the money you will save, you can buy one terrific subwoofer and not give up any bass at all). But I digress. Back to the Infinity's: they are fairly clean, can play very loud, and have good, fairly deep bass. But they are absolutely not worth anything close to the list price of $2198 (I know, they can be had any day for hundreds less, but not enough less for them to be a good value). They are not worth even $500/pair, given what Magnepan will give you.

In the showroom these sound OK. Once I heard them in a freinds home...I was blown away. They are the nicest infinity speakers I have had the pleasure of hearing...and for under $2000. The bass extension is excellent. No need for a sub, the mids and highs were pretty good, could be better, but it may be the amp it was running from. The soundstage is large for a small speaker. Similiar to the Eosone with the dual 10's, or the Polk RT2000p, but at half the size, and with a nice 150W sub amp. I'm curios how the Overture 1s sound in a home.

Strength:

Clarity, Frequency Response, Staging, Appearence...

Weakness:

Flimsy grills, relative inaccessability of bass control

I could go on for quite some time about these speakers.
I think the price I paid to be a good one for the product purchased. But two thousand dollars is ridiculous (for any speaker).

In short, these speakers are keepers. I do not now have the room to properly position these speakers, but they still bring me delight. The grills are indeed flimsy and while this would not normally matter, the placement of the bass control makes grill construction more of a concern.

The sound quality of these is great. Realism, clarity, wide frequency response... I would say all these apply. Include too a great dimensional component to the description. This speaker produces highs that are crisp, but not unbalanced. The bass production is great and this is so even in less than ideal conditions. I look forward to bass that is even tighter when I am able to properly position the speakers.

The amplifier seems to do it's job well and I have had very, very little difficulty with the auto cut-off feature while I am listening ( I should add that I seldom listen to music at above moderate levels).

I am so very happy to have been able to get these speakers and would, for a similar price, buy them again. I cannot offer a higher endorsement.

To include some comparison; while listening to these speakers in the soundroom, I compared them to JBL, Polk and Bose. I expected the Infinity to sound a bit better than JBL and was proved correct. I expected noticeable difference between the Infinity and Bose speakers. Again, I was correct. Infinity is, to my likings, a superior speaker. I was not so certain however, what to expect compared to Polk. I have a friend with a pair of Polk speakers and had grown to favor the brand. When compared to a pair of Polk speakers with amplified woofer (similar to the Infinity speakers) the Polk speakers sounded very muddy. This both surprised me and sealed the deal. I do indeed recommend these to anyone who wants an upscale speaker, but, for whatever reasons, will not consider an "audiophile" quality speaker.

I have owned several pairs of smaller Infinity's, but nothing on par with these.

Got these in the UBID game for a great price, auditioned them in the previous year at CC-although I hate the stores.
Anyway, these are great speakers at the UBID price range and will alter your view of what your old CD's sound like.

Just ordered a new Denon Receiver from UBID to replace a junky Sony so I am really psyched to hear the change. Next is DVD for full blown theatre.

Bottom line: At under $350 each, these are great speakers!!!

I've owned the Overture 2 speakers since January '97. I shopped for a long time deciding which speaker gave the most realistic sound reproduction and met my music/movie needs. I worked at Circuit City and had the opportunity to hear many speakers was an easy task The Overture have realistic reproduction with the added benefit of strong tight bass and the ability to build-on with a subwoofer for unmatched sound for any need. I purchased a NHT sub SW2P and Infinity surround speakers and hooked it up to a Harmon Kardon AVR-75. Beautiful sound. Watch out for speakers that focus on one thing. Full sound is not always distinct sound and strong thumping bass may shake the walls but c'mon get real sound and all that other too.

I just picked up a pair of Overture 2's from One Call, and I am so happy. I never thought I would spend $700 on a single speaker, but trust me, these babies are well worth it. I could have got them for less from Cyberteria, but they are currently back ordered, and I just couldn't wait.
I have these speakers hooked up to an HK AVR-65 and they just crank it out. I hear things in the music I have never heard before. The base in these is extremely deceptive. You can't tell where it is coming from, but damn can you feel it! I have to be careful not to turn up the volume too high, because stuff on the shelves starts vibrating and moving. From the lowest volume level, all the way up to ear bleeding shake the house level, the sound is clean and pure. I never realized it before, but some CD's are recorded very poorly. I can easily tell the difference between a quality CD and a crappy one. At first I thought there was something wrong with the receiver or speakers, but then I switched CD's and I realized that what I was hearing was coming from the CD itself. Unbelievable!

I highly recommend you go to a dealer near you and check these out. Make sure to bring a quality CD with you though. I used the Sara Mclaghlin (spelling?) Surfacing CD. The song Angel on the CD really can show off the quality of these speakers.

Yo...i recently bought my overture2 from ubid for 370 each because the deal is too good to pass up. This is definitely my biggest upgrade from my mini shelf system. I am still using my 6ohms 50watt Aiwa system, so any suggestions for a good receiver? I am a student here at ucla, so nothing too fancy (a dolby digital would be nice)...however i am a sucker for good quality. I am considering Denon AVr2400 or better...so any help i get is appreciated. Basically i am using the ovtr2 for music, not hometheater but that might change in the future.Anyhow, i think ovtr2 is of excellent build/construction and i love the design. with the current underpowered amp, the quality is still pretty good...i dont really listen to soft/classical music, i listen to hiphop/r&b/techno...and i notice a much fuller sound compared to before.
However i like my music with lots of bass, not boomy but tight bass. The ovtr2's 6" woofer arent adequate for high volume blasting...i have to turn it down a bit so the bass isnt distorted. or is this because my the shelf system amp? someone help, im just a casual listener here...going on to be an audio enthsiast. Also, i saw an ad for the Definitive Tech ProTower400 speakers and the specs are quite similar. I like the aesthetic quality of it (actually i pick look over music quality to match my room)...so someone please compare that to the ovtr2 thanks.

got a heck of a deal on these speakers, $425 each,, new!,, when i first hooked em up i was a little dissappointed, but when i found the proper placement and fooled around with the carpet spikes...anyway,, these are fantastic speakers,, not worth 2000 retail but easily worth 1000 for the pair,,the bass is tight and full at low volumes, but i need to turn the bass level down if i really want to push the sound barrier without distortion.. for surround sound they are perfect,,and for moderately loud, crystal clear sound from your cds,, they cant be beat..

I got mine from Ubid -$407 for each. First off -I think thay are really beautiful speakers(cherry). I am looking for the RS5's in cherry for my rear channels now.
The highs are amazimg. The sound stage is huge and impressive. Very clear and the balancing is like nothing Ive ever heard in a home system. The down side is like others have said - when you really crank them up, the bass can sometimes crap out slightly. Some tweaking can get rid of it - but I want to leave settings alone once I dial them in. Not for the bass heads - but for everyone else they are a dream.

4.5 stars from me
