Recently, I replaced my whole audio system. I replaced Infinity Overtune-3 with PSB Gold. I replaced Yamaha A-1 with Conrad-Johnson preamp and Bryston 4B-ST amp.
Infinity Overtune-3 has tonal balance problem. It emphasizes and ignores too much on some frequency especially for the frequency under 90 Hz. This is a design problem on Infinity's active sub-woofer.

Mid-range is too colorful. You may get impressive first and get tired in the long run.

Infinity Overtune-3 is kind of over efficent and lacks of sound stage. If you have a "small" amplifier, you may like this speaker. If you have good amplifier, I may keep away from this speaker.

To start off with, these are very well executed, moderately dynamic and efficient speakers. They do well for music and very well for home theater.
The bass is nicely extended (especially for woofers of only 6½ inches in diameter). With a 300-watt amplifier in each tower, I find it suitable for all but the lowest lows. The subwoofers volume can be adjusted to meet the dynamics of action-packed movies. For music, I find that adjusting the knob anywhere between the middle and the lowest setting makes for the best balance in my 10 x 13' HT room.

The midrange is smooth with exceptional soundstaging characteristics. A little laid back for high-end standards IMO, but provides good balance for the main channels in a home theater system.

The highs are good, though a bit rolled off. Missing is the bloom and decay of some lingering symbol strikes in many acoustic recordings. Smooth, but, like the midrange, laid back.

Though they are not bi-wireable, they do have 5-way (red and black) gold-plated binding posts that you can conveniently used banana plugs with. I also noticed, at least for the subs, that they use better than average internal wiring (10-14 gauge).

To sum it up, these speakers are worth the money for those who are looking to combine their music system with their home theater system. The (cherry) finish is top-notch and they come with carpet spikes to couple the speakers to the floor. They even have a little light showing you the status of the signal-activating subwoofer amps - green active, red idle. However, the molded plastic base is cost-effective, they're not my first choice for this level of performance floorstanding speakers.

I don't know about you, but I would like to hear a comparison with either the Acoustic Research 315 HO or even the new AR-1, not to mention the Def. Tech. BP 3000 (which I wasn't too terribly impressed with for the price).

I bought the Overture 3's from UBID for $624 a piece. They sound incredible to me... although I have to admit that I am comparing them to a pair of $400 JBL's I've owned for the last three years. I am considering returning them to UBID, because there is a mildly annoying hum coming from the bass amplifier. It isn't audible when playing music or movies at moderate to high volumes... but when there is silence (between cd tracks for instance), it is fairly noticeable. Are any other owners of the Overture 3's experiencing this problem? I have them hooked up to a Carver amp/pre-amp, and I am using low end monster cables. There is also a similarly noticeable 'shhhhh' sound coming from the mid-range/tweeter area. If anyone else had this problem, how did you solve it? Can it be solved? I've called a couple high end audio stores in my area and explained the problem. They said that I would probably need to spend at least a couple hundred dollars to get the cables that would clear all of this up. I guess I would expect them to say that... so I'm asking all of you, who don't have any interest in selling cables, to steer me in the right direction. One more thing - If it does turn out I need to upgrade cables, do you know of any online stores that sell quality hook-ups for cheap? Thanks.

These speakers are OK, the vocals are great, but the highs are not very natural. The bass is good if you consider that they use 6" woofers and the actual size of the speakers, but if you like bass you will need a 12" or 15" subwoofer. I paid $1100 for the pair and use them for my rears. These speakers are great for people with small rooms and small amps, but if you need front speakers and have the room and the power look somewhere else.

Best speaker that I have listened for the $$$$, I also considered NHT VT2 Audio/Video System (great for Video lacked a little for music). The Overture 3's have accurate imaging and soundstage.
The bass output is strong and deep, excelent for only using 6.5 drivers
these speakers lack when playing heavy metal/electric guitar.
Paid $640+$80(for extended 5 year warranty mainley to cover the amp) total $1440 for the pair.
Give then a 5 for Home Theater/ 4.5 for Music

I heard the Overture 3's at a new Circuit City that had just opened in the area, at first I was amazed during a dolby digital demonstration and they were paired with a Velodyne sub, Infinity Quadropole rear speakers and a Polk Audio center channel. It was called to my attention by my friend who I would consider an audiophile, that they were not nearly as accurate as some others that we had tested in stereo. The bass was punchy and live and the treble was clear, but they seem to hurt your ears after awhile. The amplifier for the 6 inch built in subs would tend to hum. In a home theatre situation I would consider these speakers but not if you tend to listen to music in stereo.
For home theatre I would give 3 stars for the money.
You could do much better for the money and add in a sub.
In stereo I would give them 2 stars.

I'm having a very difficult time, since I purchased these Overture 3 speakers. I won a uBid.com auction; a NEW pair of ovr3'S at $1274.00, delivered UPS ground (5 days). I can't leave my audio room or get into bed at a decent hour. I can't get to work on time in the mornings. I have not spent much time talking to my sweetheart!
These speakers sound fantastikallyaudiosyncronously incredibulouslyawsome!!! I don't know any words that describe what I can hear! As an musician and audiophile for over 30 years, I cannot believe what these speakers have done for my CD/DVD collection. Live concerts and movies every night I am home. My Bose 601 series II's are hereby declared obsolete.

The ovr3's reproduce deeper richer bass than I thought to be physically possible from a six.five inch cone! In a nutshell, very tight loud bass, a smooth mid range, crystal clear symbols with serious violins on top. I can hear the subtle sounds from the guitarist fingers on the strings, as if I'm on the stage in a small club (not in the audience). The entire range of sound is very balanced from low volume to extremely unreasonable loud. I set the speaker internal amp at 4. I keep my windows closed to avoid interupting any Police cars that might pass by. I'm sure it must sound like a rock band is rehearsing inside my house.

My Sony STR DA50 ($685 delivered, see www.UnclesStereo.com) receiver drives 120 watts x 5 into 8 ohms in Dolby digitial. I can barely turn the volume past 12 o'clock!!! DVD with Dolby AC-3 sounds better than the best theater environment. I am considering a second pair of ovr3's to kick my old Bose 301's out of the surround position. Probably overkill, but I'm very impressed. Also, I'm adding an Infinity CC3 center to replace my two Bose 101 centers.

100 stars

SPEAKERS ARE EFFICIENT AND COLOURFUL. THE BASS IS EXECELLENT CONSIDERING THEY USE 6.5" SPEAKERS. THE SOUNDSTAGE IS NOT HUGE BUT THAT IS LIKELY DUE TO THE LESS THAN IDEAL ROOM SETUP, (LOTS OF HARD SURFACES)
PAID $1100 FOR THE PAIR AT UBID.COM, ONE SPEAKER CAME WITHOUT LACK THE BOTTOM NUTS TO SCREW THE SPIKES IN.

FOUR STARS BECAUSE I HAVEN'T HEARD A FIVE YET

I was recently in the market for some high end speakers. I did the normal auditioning and testing, and found that these were my favorite speakers. At first I was interested in the Definitive Technology ProTower 400's, I thought I liked these speakers, and was ready to buy them, until I got a chance to really listen to the Overture 3's. I buy my home theater components from a good friend of mine( he owns a company called SoundPros, his web page is www.soundpros.com). I consider him to have a very good ear for what is good and what is bad along the lines of speakers. These are the speakers that he himself owns and loves.....so, to make a long story short, I went to his house about 3 times a week just to hear these speakers. I now own them, and love them........just give them a listen, you'll find out what I'm talking about!!
