Overall, the preformance of this speaker is remarkable. I have had these spekers for a while and it is hard to find another pair that outperforms them for the price they are going for in today's market. Infinity actually did something right when these speakers were produced. The Overture 3's captures the highs, mids and low's exceptionaly well. The I have never benn able to get the sound to distort, even at high levels (I am have a denon 2801 reciever that has a volume range of -60 to +19. I have had these speakers playing for well over an hour with hard rock for well over an hour with the sound coming out being crystal clear) If you found a deal on these speakers, buy them. I can say with confidence that you will be happy.

Well, I bought my O-3's around 5 months ago off of 'One Call' for $1700-A bit higher than others on this site but they're 'Authorised' and so I get the real 5 year warrenty with them-which means alot to me. And I also had to pay tax since were both in Washington State. They are very easy to setup and place...very forgiving if you dont have a great room to put them in. When I played the second song off of Sarah Mclachlan's cd 'Surfacing' the woofs bottomed out HEAVY! Now granted the opening synth bass on this track is way loud and deep, but you can so just so much with 6.5 woofs on notes that close to 20hz and recorded THAT loud. I decided to mate it with Infinity's BU120-12" powered sub and cross it over at about 55hz.....Absolute MAGIC!!!! This IS the speaker setup they will bury me in.....No more bottoming out and when I turn it up, it just gets better and better....to fatigue or 'compression' at all around 110db.......Amazing....well worth the price I paid. Gerry

Strength:

Good Integated speaker - better bass than others in this size - midrange is the best overall sound

Weakness:

very low bass - slight vertical beaminess - with low seating there is some picketing

I bought these on an Audiogon instant auction - they were only getting about $550 and i bid for the hell of it - ended up buying them for $577 (plus $130 shipping). Fedex poked holes in the boxes and did some damage to the veneer (you can see it if you look). They settled for $750 to refinish the speakers - so in essence they were free. I kept them to give o my college son when he moves out of the dorm next year. When we moved I had to sell my beloved Acoustats and decided to use the Infinitys until I found a suitable replacement. Anyway, I have been using these for about 2 months. The electronics are Sunfire tube pre, Adcom 565 mono-blocks, and Cal Audio CD.
After the Acoustats (big 3 panel electrostatics with phenomonal imaging), the Infinitys are less than perfect. They have good overall sound, the midrange is excellent, but they fall down in a few key areas. the high end tends to fall apart when things get complicated (for example the bells on the 7 years in tibet CD), the bass is less than succinct on very low drums (I have a Velodyne 18" sub that was necessary for the Electrostatics - when I first hooked up the Infitiys I did not include the sub - later I added it and it significantly improved the bottom end). Finally, I believe there is some beaming in the vertical dispersion of the speaker. As the tweeter is relatively high, this seems to have an impact on low seating. Finally, I have tried mightily, but cannt create a convincing soundstage with these speakers. I have moved them around repeatedly and it always sounds like two speakers. Realize that I am VERY spoiled in this regard by the Acoustats.

Overall, I would classify these as a very good mid-fi speaker or entry higher-end. At the price point (free - $700) they were an excellent deal and will serve my son well in college. Also, they would be excellent for home theater when combined with the series 1s, though I would probably want a big sub for the LFE channel.

Strength:

Nice looking and great sound

Weakness:

The base is a little lacking, but easly made up with a sub

If you can buy these speakers for 1400 or less, do it. I have been impressed with thier great sound for movies and music. Do not take my bass comment the wrong way. The speakers by themselves do have good base, but I always like to add a pwered sub to any system.

Strength:

The sound is great. The highs are great and the bass is impressive for using 6.5 inch longthrow woofers

Weakness:

May need a sub (I always use a powered subwoofer no matter what speakers I have).

These speakers are probably one of the best products Infinity marketed. They provided detial and a smooth sound. The overtures look as nice as they sound. I listen to a variety of music from rap, spanish guitar, alternative, industrial, classical, ect... and I have not heard a sour note yet. As a matter of fact, after listening to the sound produced from the overtures, the inferior sound that cheaper speakers produce is very noticable. Other uses include Home theater. In many movies you need fast drives to make the sound match with the video (this goes triple for the bass). One evening I was playing with my system and forgot to power the external powered subwoofer. It took me about an hour and a half to figure out the powered sub was not on (When you have a external powered sub it tends to create physical effects like floor shaking. It is also noticable, if you are intune, where heavy bass is being produced.) I have to rate these speakers a 5.

The overture 3s are extremely good if you for both music and home theater. With the built in sub, you do not need to have a separate power sub which is very important to please the significant others in the family. The mid-range is smooth and full, which is very ear-pleasing for extended listening period and also at higher sound level. Some other speakers tend to be overly bright in the highs. During the audition, they might give you a impression that they have wider dynamic range or "lively". But in reality, you ear feels fatigue after listening them for a while. So, to me, the overture 3s are very acurate and natrual. Belive me, it can bring life to the music too.

Purchased my Ovr3's from Cyberteria--great price. Checked out many speakers at different locations--BrynMahr, Circuit City, Best Buy and decided on the OVR's.They are fantastic--to say the least. I have Infinity Rs-3's for read speakers, Sony Receiver STRda90ES and Sony DVD player. What a sound combination!! I hate to watch video tape anymore..
