Strength:

.... w/ 250watts goin to each... they slam
-DPA seems like a good name, even if the come from a van-

Weakness:

haven't found any yet

I fell for the van scam, but I really think I got the better end of the deal off these guys, seeing as I only had $200 on me, they must've been feeling really desperate - I got 2-12" chrome subs in a really nice light colored wood box. w/ only 250 watts going to each (and they say on the back max 400)... they bump ~!hard!~ and clean. I got kicked outta my apartment this past summer bacause of the walls shaking too much from them...(people 4 floors down were complaining. Next week they're coming back up from Chicago to line the sides of my bed in the dorms. Time to get some other opinions. Anyone else who ownes a pair of these nice looking speakers, please email me and let me know what you think of yours, also if anyone knows the address to the companies website please let me know - jubei504@hotmail.com

My friend and I were leaving a pet store when we got approached by two "stoner" looking guys in a Grand Cherokee (no van this time). They said that they were given 5 extra pairs of speakers and needed to get rid of them before they went back to their boss with the merchandise. They were very convincing and showed me the speakers.

I offered them $238 and said that was all I had for the pair, they gave them to me and that was it.

One of the guys said his name was Clayton Hicks, he gave me a phone #, not sure if it works (425) 442-7202.

I guess I'll test them out at home, for $120 a speaker I don't see how I could've done too badly.

Oh well, next time I will be more prepared..

I sort of got scammed like the rest of you guys, but when I hooked them up in my car to my phoenix gold zx450 they sounded incredable and I was able to get them for only 200. when I got home I hooked them up in the place of my my two infinty twelves and guess what they are actualy clearer than the infinity's. So for all those people who thing they got scammed you might not of because the 2.8's that i bought were definantly worth it.

i don't even know. i haven't plugged the f*ckers in yet.

Weakness:

eughhhhh....

i could have lived poor for the rest of the year if i had a pair of quality speakers to make it worthwhile, but i feel sick knowing that i've been had. dammit, i bet the first thing everyone did was get on the internet to see how big they scored, and be able to tell all they're friends about the killer deal they got...then all you find is a few discussion boards and reviews talking about this scam. i can't even begin to express the disappointment i'm feeling right now, but i'm sure anyone reading this doesn't need to be told. i hope i can at least shake my house with them for satisfaction...

THEY GOT A FAT TICKET FROM THE COPS

well, today, I been had too. from reading all the reviews I was suprised that I was scammed but there is a good side to this :)I was laughing too. But first I wanted to tell anyone that those 2 guys, one name is Dave and forgot the other one is in san jose and miplitas areas. Well, I was on my way to school and looking for parking when these two guys stop on a blue van and told me that they have these great speakers for sale. So I pushed over and park next to them and they opened up the van. The van was filled with DPA SLT 2.8 speakers and they opened one up for me. The story was that they got screwed over by their boss about buying a big screen TV so they took the speakers to sell. They told me that they work for a skt theatre system or something in redwood city. So then they showed me that it's worth 1k for a speaker and they were offering to me at 500 a pair. So i said "nah, I can't affor it" so they asked how much i can offer them. So first I told them 200 but they said 300 and I owe them beer next time if i see tehm, so it's kool, I took the speaker but I didn't have the money on me so I told them to come to my house and i'll give them the money.
So one guy got into my car and we took off, but here's the good part, rite before we left the parking lot, a cop pulled the van over with the other guy in the car so we made a U and went back. Someone had told the cop that the van was selling stollen speaker. The cops made a search of the van and found a weed and found out that the guy who was driving had a suspended liscense. SO THEY GOT A FAT TICKET but luckily the speaker aren't stollen or else i'll be in jail for buying stollen goods. So after that, the cops let us go and we took off to my house for the money. But on the way, I got the guy in my car to go off on the price to $230 and he said he'll give it for $250 so I said arite. But the foo needed a smoke and here's the funny part. I didn't let him smoke in the car so he was on a creaving, so he told he that he'll give it for $230 if he can smoke in my car, so I said arite. $20 off for a cig, what a deal. So I got a pair of DPA SLT 2.8 for $230 AND THOSE FOO GOT A FAT TICKET. ISN'T THAT A GOOD DEAL FOR A SCRAM? HAHAHAHHAHA

Not feeling too bad about the whole thing

Strength:

I think they sound amazing - incredible bass! And that's just from a 30-watt output Sony Minisystem.

Weakness:

Well, I will always be reminded of being duped by these guys every time I look at the speakers or a white van. Other than that, no complaints about the speakers themselves. Just don't place them close to your TV or it will look like you're watching TV on Mars.

Same situation. I was tired, it was a Friday, I stopped at Mickey D's to get a milkshake, but as luck would have it, the milkshake machine was broken. So I really wanted a milkshake, so I begin to drive off, and these guys pull up next to me -- normal looking white college-age kids -- asking me if I want a pair of speakers. I told them no way, you're weird, but somehow I got suckered in. Probably because I was tired and had a cold. But nothing about the whole incident reeked of a scam -- not even in retrospect! Anyway, you know the rest. Saw this website, felt sick to my stomach, was worried about how my girlfriend would react to my making a stupid and needless purchase from two guys selling no-name speakers out of the back of a VAN?!?!

BUT! I hooked up the speakers to my Sony 30-watt mini-system and I was amazed at the quality of the sound. The thing is I really don't need these monster speakers, especially since my apartment is so small. It'll take a while for me to get over this whole thing, but I'm glad I'm not the only one it happened to. I am trying not to get too angry, because there's nothing I can do about it, so I'll just get on with my life. My girlfriend wasn't upset with me despite my stupidity and my feelings of terrible guilt and remorse (you would be so lucky to find a girlfriend like her!). But for a while, I'll still be replaying the whole incident over and over in my head and wondering why I could have let something like that happen.

But here's why I don't feel too bad overall:
a) Everyone else here fell for this thing, so it's not like there's anything wrong with anyone of us
b) I got a great pair of speakers for a fair price, and...
c) I'm a stronger person now. I have learned my lesson and will NEVER do business with a complete stranger again. It's weird... just today I was asked by some guy on the street if I wanted to buy some magazines. I told the guy off right there because I'd seen this ploy before and that he shouldn't even bother with the sales pitch. I'd never had balls like that before -- I was raised to be too nice to people. But now that I'm in L.A., maybe NOT being nice to people once in a while will save you in the end!! You gotta learn to sense danger (or just the fact that something is "wrong") and get the heck outta there!

And that's a lesson learned that you can't put a price tag on. But getting a decent pair of speakers while learning the lesson ain't too shabby a deal. So, I know I'm in the minority here, but I will say "Thanks Millennium!" (Or whoever you are, if you really exist.)

Strength:

They do exactly what they are supposed to do - reproduce sound. Good, bad or otherwise.

Weakness:

Not being able to pass up that bargain! If it sounds too good to be true, chances are it just may not be true.

The white/red van is gone & our sales staff consisted of 3 people in a brand new Green Lincoln Navigator with Quebec plates. The driver never left the vehicle, while our Alberta sales rep. explained how the poor warehouse help had just doubled an order which they were attempting to 'sell off' at any fair price you were prepaired to offer.
Being older & supposedly wiser, my initial reaction was to thank the young man for his very generous offer but we would pass. My partner however, convinced of the bargain we just couldn't pass up, started negotiations for the entire contents of the SUV. Needless to say, we ended up with the entire inventory. A pair of 'humungous' 15" DPA something or others, a Digital Pro Audio Surround Sound Cinema Series I System, and a single DPA SLT 2.8 tower. Our only wish is that we could have the lads show up again, so we could purchase another tower. They all reproduce sound and yah can't ask for more than that!
