Nice looking cabinet, good sound

I got the same thing as all the rest of you, two guys in a white van start talking to me about having extra speakers and needing some beer money as I'm leaving Futureshop. They pulled over and showed me the goods, what I got were the
"DPA 312" speakers, claiming they are worth about $1800/pair. As far as what I paid for them these speakers aren't bad at all, and I encourage all of you to stop complaining in here and plug them in. I'm pushing them with a 300W kenwood reciever, and I'm convinced that with a nice equalizer and more power, these speakers will sound very nice. The speakers are rated at 350W each (assuming its accurate), so in effect I'm trying to power 700W with only 300W, and belive me it does make a huge difference in the end. I've owned professional equipment before and the raw sound without an equilizer in the treble was very much similar. As for the distortion your complaining about when you try to crank them up, that is often caused by being underpowered. I've seen mention in here of some other models, I'd have to see them to have an opinion on them, but as far as the "DPA 312" series goes, the cabinets are good and heavy, although I havn't checked to see what they're made of they're more heavily constructed than my Kenwoods. And the sound isn't bad at all considering what I have running it.
In my opinion, give them a shot set up properly, you people weren't ripped off nearly as bad as you think you were.

Good Looking, Still Working Hard, Sound Fine

Weakness:

Haven't seen any yet

(Review of DPA 2.8 Home Theater Speakers. 1- Tit. Dome Tweet 2- 8" Coated Paper Subs 100 RMS 200Max) Well, they hit hard considering they are only 2 8's and the tweeter has stood up to alot of distortion from my 20 year old amp only pushing 40 watts RMS a channel playing bass test songs. (but the tweet still sounds like new.) I've seen a pair of DPA's that were the same as the 2.8's, but they only had 2 6-1/2" subs instead of the 8's at a pawn shop in Bellvue WA for 499$ He said he'd sell em for 300 after I'd told him I bought mine for 300. So far, I'd say I got my 300 dollars worth, but only time will tell. (I've got the cops called on me 3 times living in this house for 2-1/2 months (I Bought em 2 weeks after i moved in) and only bumpin em before 3pm... But I bumb em for at least 3 hours a day since I got em.)

Seems to put out a good sound

Weakness:

Seems that I too was scammed

Well I just hooked this bad boy up and I must say that it sounds pretty good. I managed to get the "salesperson" down to $150 Canadian and thought it must be a scam. However, because it was a U.S. product I didn't recognize the name and assumed it was hot...or rather they were coming back from a job where the speakers were paid for and they didn't need them anymore.

To find it is a scam doesn't surprise me, to find that it is this large a scam does surprise me a little. What an outfit this must be, reaching all of North America.

I guess I can just throw my hands in the air and live with my purchase. Hopefully they work for a little while.

me falling for it

I got the white van scam too. Some guys in the van stopped by my car and offered cheap speakers. They opened their door and showed the stuff along with the explanation that they had overstock and were selling for personal profit. They showed an invoice, a warranty, and Id's so i was convinced although it was strange to be buying stuff this way. I gave them the money and they were off. They didnt seem nervous or anxious to leave cuz they followed me for a while beofr turning off into a station.
