I just bought two Digital Pro Audio SLT 2.8 from 2 guys in a parking lot at Circuit City. I bought two towers for $200 brand new in there box. Did I get ripped off? How much can I sell them for?

Strength:

Cheap speakers, they dont sound too bad, kinda. Home delivery.

Weakness:

White Van. Realizing that I'm truly helpless without the internet. Toxic Gas.

I think we all know why we are here. Trying to be optimistic: I had to turn them up rather loud to hear most of the bizarre sonic mutilations. I needed another pair of speakers for the garage. I like the idea of parting them out because the enclosures smell like they are giving off formaldehyde or PCB's or something.

They sound great, rich bass!

Weakness:

the selling tactics

I had the same happen to me in my dorm parking lot, 2 guys in a minivan trying to "rip" off their boss. I the SLT 2.8's for 120. They sound better than my Pioneers and look a lot better. So, for the price, they weren't too bad.

Hi's little harsh not too smooth, Like Cerwim Vegas. Alittle muddie nothing a little eq couldn't fix

Yes I got a pair of the towers as well. 1st ya it is a scam but they sound good for what they are. If someone tries to sell you pro audio in a parking lot you know somethings wrong from the get go. I have Acoustic Research speakers that I got the same way, and gave them as a gift. They are what the are if you want them get the price down as low as you can and enjoy but please test! I had them deliverd and they hooked them up for me and I got thier REAL address and number. Just beware do not anything of the street Please use wisdom I wouldn't have bought them if I didn't like the sound.

Nowhere to return, fake receipts, bogus company name

Just got a membership in your club. Exactly the same tactics. Went through a personal check at a local police station (!!!) right before the transaction (they found nothing wrong), made a copy of his photo ID (Firearm Owner's ID- the guys made themself prepared to meet some us later), and yet I made myself a complete idiot. In IL they call the system Cypress (speakers), and it came with so called Epiphany DVD/CD/FM-AM tuner amp. (25 W per channel instead of 100W promised). Fake receipt, non-existant dealer, bogus Web site to lure in complete idiots who don't pay attention that this is just a makeshift Yahoo address(www.cypressaudio.com). I guess this should be handled by the Attorney General of your state. Just another $2000 vacuum cleaner or an $800 set of kitchen knifes sold dor-to-door. Cleaver tactics. Obviously, a chain selling Innovative Sound Systems using the same strategy and just changing the name. A Web site making you believe that this is a bargain. Nothing is terribly wrong except fake receipts, wrong verbal description, inability to return the merchandise (although a 3-day refund is stated in the receipt) and the general appearance of a scam. Spent 2K on a 6-large speaker audio and a complete 6-small speaker surround sound set with amp (25W/channel). A quick check made me believe that the large speakers and the DVD/tuner/amp, although far from perfect, are not terrible at all. The small speakers will be donated without any testing. And, by the way, I'm sure they read everything we write here to adjust their strategy.

Weakness:

Selling out of the back of a car.

I just ran into the same scam. Here's the deal-(I think)- I believe this is the company's marketing tactic. Some guy approached me in the parking lot of Home Depot and gave me a story about how they were setting up a home theatre system in a residence, and they accidently recieved four "sets" of speakers instead of only four speakers. He went on to say this happened once before and was honest and told his boss. He said his boss just kept the speakers and sold them at their retail store. He also said he will sell them and make a profit rather than turn them in to his boss and let him pocket the cash. In addition, he pulled the magazine out with retail prices over $1000 for the pair. The speakers have Digital Pro Audio logos on them so I checked it out online. The Digital Pro Audio website referred me to Innovative Sound Systems (ph#714-414-1176). In the meantime I found a series of e-mails referring to the scam. Fearing I just got scammed, I called the company and told the person exactly what happened and asked her if they endorse "parking lot sales". Her response led me to believe this may be the companys marketing tactic- she responded "not really, but what are you gonna do", as if to say we know it happens but really can't do anything about it. I told her I was concerned they were stolen. She said there have been no reports and told me about other "offshore" companies copying their product and selling this way. I asked her if I could confirm my speakers were legitimate. She said the speakers come with a yellow warranty card and to go ahead and send my warranty card in and they would take care of any problems. I also asked her If there was a range I could expect to pay for these speakers and was told anywhere from $350 for a pair up to the published MSRP. At any rate, they are a legitimate company located in Anahiem, CA. Their offical website is www.digital-pro-audio.com. I paid $520 for both the DPA 3.1 Cinema series and SLT 2.8 towers which isn't bad for a complete home theater system (I probably could have talked the guy down even more). In all, it wasn't a bad deal as long as the speakers last.

Good sales pitch

Haven't hooked them up yet

Well I joined the club today. I was getting out of my car at school when two guys pulled up to me in a green ford explorer with New Hampshire plates. They pitched me a story on these "great" 1200 dollar speakers. I got them down to two, as long as they threw in a pair of 12 inch woofers. I left the parking lot thinking like I had just scammed them. According to their cataloge, the speakers and woofers combined selled for $1800. Even if I didn't like them I could easily turn around and sell them on ebay. I got back to my room, went online and found this web page. The only thing I can say is I was had. I guess I learned a valuable leason. Never trust anyone selling anything out of their car. At least they look good, and hopefully they don't sound to bad. I was thinking of selling them but I'm to nice of a guy to scam someone else.
