Strength:

Great sound for the money, loud

Weakness:

For the money, none, but obviously not the best speaker out there

I bought these speakers because I needed something loud and cheap for my room at college. I saw these on sale at Best Buy so I thought I'd give them a shot. Hooked up to my Sony Dolby Digital reciever pushing 80 watts, they sound great. For music they push out a lot of sound. As for movies in my economical home theater they sound pretty good with DVD, reciever and other KLH center and surrounds. Overall a great speaker for someone that listens to music loud and isn't too worried about blowing them (though I haven't even come close).

Strength:

Great Value, Strong Bass, Nice Cabinet, Good Availibity, Solid Feel, Easy Setup, 3-way Design, Large Cabinet

Weakness:

Some bass distortion at higher volumes, Spring Clip type connection, Sounds MUCH better at about 10 feet away, Large.

This speaker is all about Value. If you are in the market for anything in the 100 - 200 range, take a long look at these. First off, they are $100 a PAIR at Best Buy, which is really cheap and the fact that this is a national stores means that it is easy to get these speakers. They are heavy, and obviously have a good solid cabinet with something in it. The design is quite attractive, with a clean front grille. Sound definitely is good. There seem to be some issues with distorion of lower sounds at high volumes, but unless you are filling a really big room, this isn't a problem. These really are best of class like somebody said, at 100 bucks you can't go wrong, but the fact that they have this little distortion problem and the fact that they have spring clips (cheap connector type) means that they don't get a 5. They give the best impression at about 10 feet away. Everyone else who has heard them is impressed with the quality, the distortion problems are minor. If you have 100 bucks, get these. Not exactly audiophile grade gear, but for the price they rock.

Strength:

Nice tight bass, no rattles here, nice highs and mids and moderate levels, cheap, sound better then many higher priced speakers

Weakness:

Haven't had a chance to turn them way up (apartment), but haven't really found any if you consider the price

If you need some good sounding *cheap* speakers, buy them. They work great with my DVD player and my stereo. Very clear, very good bass.

Tried all the ones at Circuit City and Best Buy. Sound better then the KLH 4-way 15's IMHO, and much better then many higher priced, also I don't need a subwoofer now, there is plenty bass from this. I liked the DCM 12's too, but they were $140 more a piece

Strength:

very good bass when played at moderate volumes, high frequencies sound great, LOUD VERY LOUD!!!

Weakness:

Bass at higher volumes has alittle bit of distortion. YOu barely notice it though.

I bought the pair for only a $100. So a very good value. If you are lookin for a good pair of speakers for little money pick up a set of these. I love 'em.

Strength:

Most Bang For Buck. Good Bass.

Weakness:

Tweeter seems to hum offly loud until turned up to at least 50+ Watts. Much more then my Altec Lansings. Wood For Box thin, I would say not much thicker then Cardboard, rebuild the boxes with thicker wood and it sounds much better for bass. No where near 250 Power Handling.

They are very good for the money, I use them as mainly Loud roaring, Jet Engine Loud Speakers when I just want to be crazy. I have a better home theatre system in here as well that I can play with the KLH's or seperate sounds better when all are on. (Theatre consists of 15" Powered Sub, Altec Lansing Mid-High 1" Titanium Dome Tweeters, 5 1/4inch mid.

Box very shooty, I planned on adding some screws to make it stronger but woods thinner then width of screw. I'll probably rebuild the box some time, I've heard them rebuit much better and adding some sound deading material. Box is light to Driver will move the box, I put 50lb. weights on top of the boxes to keep them from running away. Again Heavier wood, would help.

Power Handling is a Joke, I have a Kenwood Reciever 100X4 I can't even turn them up or else they blur into distortion and theres no longer different beats just roaring. Sound great at 50-80 Watts go either way and they sound bad, to low and you hear a hum, higher everythings distorted.

I would much prefer some AR's but at $2050 a speaker it's a little bit much for me currently.

Strength:

Bass that beats my parents Theater system
Ear-tearing highs
Cool Looking Case Design
Handles Subwoofer-strength bass (I use an AIWA reciever with SUPER T-BASS

Weakness:

Not enough Midrange, Woofer enclosure rattles (Not with replacement of screws, though)

Absolutely kick-butt speakers. Have you ever turned the volume up to the maximum on your 200-Watt reciever and NOT see your speakers blow into little pieces? These things are rock solid, and I would recommend them to anyone who wants freakin' loud, and pretty damn good sound quality, at a really cheap price. Compared with mirage speakers, the KLH 9912's handled more volume and pumped out 12" Subwoofer level bass. The Mirage speakers, with 10" woofers, could play lower frequencies, but were nowhere near as loud as the KLH's. WOW!

Strength:

Compact design
Flat black finish
Excellent bass response
Extremely efficent design

Weakness:

Lacks ultra low frequency bass response
Small box size (also a pro)

The KLH 12" speaker system model 9912 is perhaps the best speaker system I've heard within any reasonable comparison ($100/pair, 5 yr warantee, $25, 4 yr warantee extension via BestBuy). My first impression when removing the speakers from the cardboard box was that of surprise and skeptisism. The KLH boxes were much smaller (almost a foot shorter and about four inches more shallow) than the Pioneer 12" speakers that they were replacing. I had blown the Pioneer speakers during routine, responsible listening, although the amp was well within the power rating of the speakers.

The second thing I noticed about the KLH speakers were the specifications. The skimpy user manual contained no nonsense, simple location recommendations for bright or bass flavored sound, as well as a very useful bottom line: These speakers are best used with amps rated between 10-250 watts. No RMS or peak or program numbers to wonder about, just the final breakdown, already there for me.

My expectations were mixed when I set the speakers up. The manual had called for the speakers to be in the corners of the room, idealy five feet apart given the formula in the manual. However, because of the location of my door, I had to locate my speakers along the lengthy side of my room, so about 10 feet apart and five feet from where I was listening.

I then decided to see what the speakers had. Pink Floyd, _Dark Side of the Moon_ was the first album to go through the setup, conisisting of a Sony ES Single CD Player and KLH 100 Watt amp.

I found that I routinely had to turn the bass on the amp down, because with the speakers in the corners the walls acted to amplify the bass greatly. As a result, the entire system works much more efficently, allowing higher volume without distortion.

After several weeks with the KLH 12's, I hung the right speaker, upside down, about four inches from my ceiling. The result was a hieght balanced stereo image that I had not known since my JBL's, which had both a price and size advantage over the smalled KLH speakers. These great little speakers have stood the test of time, and the test of listening. I would recommend them to anyone who likes to routinely listen to very loud music of all styles. My only grub with the speakers would be their lowbass performance, but that is to be expected of 12" drivers. Only megabass enthusiasts would be disapointed with the bass performance of these speakers, indeed, many of you may find yourself reducing your bass.

Strength:

Value. Frequency response. They look decent if you take off the KLH tag at the bottom.

Weakness:

PAPER DRIVERS ARE A NO-NO!!!!! Cabinet resonance is high.
Interconnects at the back are cheap clip on types that wont handle high guage (audiophile) wiring.

After buying a 7 channel THX Onkyo receiver, infinity towers and rear surrounds and a psb center channel, I was more than 4000$ in debt. I decided to buy a cheap pair of speakers for the "middle" surround channels of my receiver. Well they work great, sound eerily similar to my 2000$ infinitys, and they're covered under a 5 year warantee if you really want to test that overinflated 250 watt power rating. Great for people just starting out in the audiophile hobby.
