Strength:

bass, clarity, price

Weakness:

none that I have found

I bought a pair of these speakers about a week ago at bestbuy and hooked them to my technics receiver. I was very impressed when I turned them up. The bass and sound quality was the best of the speakers that I have tested. And the price was the lowest of the speakers that Ive tested. So in other words they are the cheapest and the best. The JBLs here very loud but lacked low bass. The cerwin vegas where supposed to be 400 watts but they distorted when I put about fifty watts through them. The pioneers had good low bass but lacked power. And the Yamahs had pretty good bass, power and clarity but they still werent as good as the KLH speakers, and they costed a lot more. I highly recomend these. They are the best speakers that I have ever had.

Weakness:

The box....it's cheap!! Everything else is o.k.

I feel that these things are COOL!!! I know a way you can make even more bass come out of these babies. I know that these arn't the best, but to me they are. I was thinking of buying to more, remake the whole box out of oak or some other VERY STRONG and HIGH QUALITY wood, and line all the tweeters up and have a awesome system. If u take out the cheap plastic port holes more air comes out and makes the same bass, but the woofer will move ALOT less. Which means u can turn it up louder. ANYBODY that can help me e-mail me. because I have a few questions about speakers okay?

1. How much and what kind of material do u use to put in the speaker? Because there is this white material in it and I heard if u put the right amount the woofer will have more bass and better performance.

2. Is it o.k for me to change the wires frome the crossover to the tweeters and the woofer? Cause I wanted to put 10 or 8 gauge wire and I KNOW that it's going to make it sound better. Or will it blow it up or damage it?

3. What do u think would be the STRONGEST and BEST kind of wood to use to make the box?

Thanks for your help:)

Strength:

Good Highs decent lows and great price

Weakness:

The bass could be a little better.

The KLH speakers are a great investment in your home entertainment system. They have very good highs and ok lows. To the people that put these speakers down what are looking for a Polk Audio for $99? These speakers are great for the price. Or is it that you’ve never really set down and listened to them. And what kind of music are you guys blowing tweeters and subwoofers with. First of all if you’re listening to rap music or rock you’re not getting the highest quality sound from your speakers. Go out and buy a certified test CD or some classical music, I have a test CD and these speakers have every thing there supposed to have according to it. Also did you know that you can damage a speaker with a for example 50 watt amp easier than with a 100 watt amp, at a normal listening level a speaker only draws 5-10 watts, but its when you turn them up that they draw power. A 50 watt amp will distort because your trying to pull 75 watts from it, and that is what blows speakers distortion especially tweeters. My suggestion, go out and buy a bigger amp boys. As for what they compare to, my Yamaha’s didn’t go as high as the KLH’s do and the bass was about the same thinks to the Yamaha’s dual 8” subwoofers. If your looking for good clean deep bass go out and buy a separately powered subwoofer like I did. And someone said in his opinion that when he got these speakers loud that the tweeter sound hurt his ears, I would like him to show me a set of speakers when turned up loud don’t hurt your ears (take your time because you’ll be looking for a while). You guys should compare apples to apples, instead of expecting $99 (KLH’s) worth of speaker to give you $2,000 (Polk Audio’s) worth of sound.

Strength:

Nice clean midrange and highs. Accurate Deep Bass even in accoustically challenged rooms

Weakness:

Cheap Looking Cabinets lackluster manual

These speakers really play above there price. I was pleasantly surprised at how controlled the mids and highs were and how accurate the bass was for a 15" driver. I am not too fond of the cheap cabinets but for the price they can't be beat. I reccomend a listen to anyone wanting a good sounding speaker that can play loud and clean.

I bought a pair of these speakers at best buy about a month ago and am still suprised of the sound quality. I think that the exspression you get what you pay for does not apply in this case. I think that you get double what you pay for if you buy these. I think that you would still be getting these speakers at a steal price if you paid the MSRP for them($199 each). I tested a wide variety of other speakers and I think that they sounded better than all of them, and they were the cheapest. For $120 dollars each you can't go wrong, I would highly recomend these for anyone.

Strength:

Crisp bass, excellent highs, great GREAT value

Weakness:

Must admit cheap box and little dampening material. Other than that really nothing.

Overall, I'd have to say these are excellent speakers for the price. I will agree and say that if we were comparing these to more expensive brands, then YES they would receive a lower rating. BUT, we are rating these on value vs. performance, and on that scale, I give a great rating.

I must admit, I do not enjoy playing skank rap on these speakers at ear blowing sounds, and maybe that's why I don't agree with some other posts. But for pop, classical, and softer techno, these speakers perform well. Coupled with a 5 year warrenty makes them even better.

I haven't had problems with bass or tweeting as others have, but maybe that's because of my receiver, which I set the treble at 30% to keep the highs from killing small woodlen creatures.

I also have my receiver hooked to my computer, which I play MP3's through an equalizer, and some tweeking from my sounds card to enhance the sound (it really helps). The sound is the best I've heard aside from my dad's $2,300 speakers.

If you want the best value POSSIBLE set with good overall performce, head over to Best Buy (they the only place that carries these things?) and pick up a few. If you're lucky you can get them for like $70 a piece.

Thanks,
Brian
