Price

Weakness:

Limited overall performance

Why do some people choose to be dic ks? there is absolutely no justification for the 1 star reviews. If you can afford better, by all means buy it--but that means spending over a thousand for a pair of speakers (and many in this range suck too!) Lots of people like to throw out name brands...losers; i've listened to your $700 crap and wouldn't pee on it if it was on fire! Remember, no matter how much you save at your min wage job and spend on a system, somebody has a better setup. Most bad reviews seem to come from people who don't OWN them, only listened to them at Best Buy. If this is your high end shop, you should get a life!

These speakers are better than anything below 500 each and compare favorably to many speakers up to 2000/pair.

these speakers are limited in power handling so if you really want to crank it up, you will have to look elsewhere. Don't waste time trying to rebuild these, you will have to replace all components and building a new enclosure--build new speakers from scratch if you want to. The parts are cheap, the speakers are cheap, but, the sum of the parts is greatly surpassed by the whole. BTW, all speakers I know of are made of particle board inside--it has better dampening effects. The hardwoods are simply facia treatment.

KUDOS to KLH for giving the budget restricted a choice!

Strength:

These speakers are dirt cheap, practically any1 can afford them. Overall good sound quality.

Weakness:

Nothing really stands out, just average all around;but excellent for the price.

Ok, let's be real here, these speakers are only 200 bucks. I can't stand reading the reviews on these of the people that compare them to klipsh and cerwin vega, and stuff that costs three or four times as much. They are great overall speakers and would be a perfect base to start your home theater setup around. And I have no clue why people are saying that they distort at high volumes, I have a pioneer Vsx-d409 pumping out 500 watts (100 to each speaker) and I had the volume at 96 decibles, I had to put on protective hearing, and the giant woofers weren't even reaching they maximum spl. If you want the most bang for your buck, buy them, if you are a fricken audiophile and are picky about everything, blow your money on some more expensive speakers or just go to the movie theater.

Cheap, cheap, cheap

Weakness:

Higher volumes fry these suckers! Bad bass output! Very bad sound quality!

There is absolutly no possible way these things can take 300 watts! I played one song through these with my Carver amp and they got really heated up and started to smell really bad. They didn't blow or anything, but I hardly had them turned up either! I would say, if your really on a budget and can't afford much then go buy these, otherwise if you can afford some better speakers then do it! These speakers are not made for people who are into good sounding music, but for people who are on a budget, and that is why I am not going to give them a totally bad review :)

Strength:

Good bass for a decent price

Weakness:

Stronger box would probably improve sound quality

Im hooking up my basement with a stereo and a large screen tv to make my basement a cool chill out place. I dont have much to spend so Im definently into bargain buys. I really wanted a speaker with a 12" or larger speaker so it could handle that low bass with ease. 6.5" speakers just dont do it for me. Originally I was going to buy a pair of the 9912's for 120 bucks a pair and be done with it but when I went to best buy and saw how small they really were compared to the 9915's I decided not to skim out there. I mean they're decent in size but I want a massive speaker that can get loud. Some people hate the large size of the 9915 but Id rather have a speaker that isnt so easily knocked down. So instead of picking up 2 9912's I only bought one 9915. A few days later I went back to best buy and bought a Sony Stereo DE-135 receiver. It's rated at 100X2 at 8 ohms which should be good for the 9915's. Let me tell you, it is. With only one of the 9915's hooked up and running through crappy speaker wire this thing really puts out some volume. I can feel the vibrations from my second story of my house and hear the music. Please rememeber the one speaker is in my basement. If people complain about bass response lacking on this thing, please try and reposition your speakers. I was actually dissappointed when I first hooked up the new receiver to it because the bass sounded like it had a lot of distortion and only sounded good when I stood in a certain place. Then I read a note KLH puts in the package about speaker placement. When speakers are placed in corners close to as many surfaces as possible the bass response increases. How true is that! I can't wait till I get my second 9915 to complete the stereo. My RCA 5 disc cd player is still in the mail. Argh. Im playing through a walkman right now. For anyone on a budget I recommend these speakers.

decently loud

Weakness:

everything

First one midrange blew so I took it back and replaced it.Then it blew again. Then a tweeter went bad on the other, then it stopped working completely. My point is that you shouldn't buy these speakers. But if you do, don't play them even close to distortion.

Strength:

The are THUMPERS!!

Weakness:

none

About a year ago I started to build a system. I started with a Carver TCM-15B amd, Carver CT-27V preamp/tuner. I started looking for speakers and found the 9912's at Best Buy for $49 ea. For the past year I shredded them with the Carvers. They took all I could give and still sound as sweet today as then.

I the got a Parasound EQ-300 and it clarified and defined the sound 1000%. The only problem was the 9912's didn't have quite the thump I was looking for after that. I found the 9915's on sale at Best Buy again for $99.99 each! For the price, these speakers are a steal!

I live in a big single (thank god it is soundproofed!) and the floor literally shakes with the Carver spitting out only 25 watts! As you increase, the 9915's just continue to shred! By far the best buy in speakers for the buck available today.

Next, I'm going to use the Carver for the rear channel and piggy back it with a NAK PA7 for the front to go with the 9915's, and the 9912's for the rear!

All I can say is I can't wait (and oh yeah....so sorry neighbors!) If your thinkin bout new speakers, do yourself a favor and check the KLH's out....they are awesome!!!!!

Strength:

Bang for the Buck

Weakness:

You get what you pay for.

I picked these up a few years ago at a Sam's club in Louisville, Ky. for $100 a piece. Since then I have alternated between them and a pair of Klipsch kg4s with a harman/kardon AVR 25 mk.II reciever.

Truth is they are a great example of the brute force approach to sound design. They are loud sounding drivers put together with no thought of balance. KLH also neglects cosmetic appeal and the possible use high power. They look like stoves and the four speakers don't match each other at all. But they sound completely decent. The bass shakes everything and the highs are rather clear. They outperform my kg2s (which listed at $800 new) in these departments but the KLHs lack the brightness and smooth balance of the Klipsch. When I want to impress teenagers I play the KLH. If I'm speaking to a real audiophile, I talk only of the kg4s.

In closing, the speakers are well worth the price. I have compared them to comparable Cerwin-Vegas, Infinitys, and the like, and the KLH are every bit as good, in some cases better. For more money, you can get much smaller speakers that sound much better and have better midrange, but these are $100 a piece. They also get good response at low volumes, which makes them nice for home theatre applications. But they are huge. When I listen to something on my Klipschs, I feel mellow and calm. When I use the KLHs, I feel violent. They are a good, cheap solution, with great high points, but their low points are just as noticable. If you're in college, or you just want to impress your friends, buy them. But remember, you get what you pay for.

If you look down the list of reviews for this product, you will find I have already reviewed this speaker once before. This is a follow up review.

I am very pleased with this product. At $119 each, I think this is one of the best buys in high fidelity.

I have 2 of these speakers in my Dolby Digital 5.1 system. They serve as the front speakers. They fill this role very well. They are driven by a Carver 100W/channel stereo amplifier. They could handle much more power.

I use the KLH 915B non-ported version of this speaker for the subwoofer in my system. It is driven by a 250W subwoofer amplifier. It is no longer available at Best Buy, but KLH still shows it as one of their products on their web page.

Check these speakers out! They are a great value for the money.

Strength:

Very good low bass reproduction and crisp highs. Get very loud.

Weakness:

Needs better cabinet.

After reading all the reveiws on this page I've seen alot of crap written about this speakers. I have used them for over two and a half years now. I've used them in a varaity of different aplications and in each case they preformed outstandingly. I DJ every once in a while and these speakers blew everyone away. There were several people who said they didn't have enough bass. Well you better think about replacing your amp, because I have to turn the bass control down below mid way because of the thunderous bass they produce. I've used them on a cheap Pioneer 100 watt per channel amp, and a 250 watt per channel power amp and in each case I got awesome sound. I have yet to blow out a voice coil even at high wattage, contrary to what some on this page have claimed happens offten. I've been able to solve the cabinet issues farely easyly. I reinforced the woofer by first removing it . Then I took 8 small blocks of wood and guled them on the inside of the cabinet were the screws thread in. After letting them dry in place I reinserted the woofer, drilled piolet holes, and used longer screws. This eliminated the slight buzzing noise the woofer made against the cabinet when the volume was turned up. By doing this the sound is much better. I aslo plan to add more foam inside trhe cabinet too. These speakers are awesome. Everyone I've shown them to, were amazed by the sound.
