I've owned the NHT SuperTwos for about 3 months now and I still think they sound great. Got the pair from Netmarket.com for about $550 plus shipping. I use them as my front speakers connected to a Harmon Kardon AVR75. The speakers sound incredibly accurate, though alittle on the bright side but that can be fixed by simple adjusting the treble on the reciever. The bass is very musical but you'll need a sub for anymore. I dont think that theres a pair of high quality speakers that can perform at the same level for less this much money or even $1000. If you're looking for affordable loud speakers that gets the job done at a high level then the SuperTwos are the way to go. This is a best buy.

Strength:

Value, accuracy

Weakness:

Slight upper end harshness (maybe only in direct comparison to my other speakers)

Bought these barely used for $400, ostensibly for bedroom system to replace some old KLH's. Have been sitting side-by-side with ProAc for couple months during a remodel. I've done a lot of A/B in this time. If I hadn't gotten an equally good deal on the ProAc I'd be a little remorseful. They go deeper (although they give up some articulation), and imaging and soundstage very good. Except for the extension, the ProAc are better in every way, but the S2 are not embarrassed in a head-to-head, at 1/3 the price!

Strength:

Neutral Tonal Balance, Detailed yet smooth highs, incredible bass extension for the price.

Weakness:

Bass is a little overemphasized in my room.

I think these are incredible speakers for the price. I bought these to replace a pair of Boston T830's which sounded too bright with my new receiver (Sony 555ES). I already had a pair of Super One's, so the Super Two was a logical choice to upgrade my system for surround sound. The Boston T830 was a fairly well regarded speaker in its day and the SuperTwo is not much more expensive ($750 MSRP vs. $550) but it really blows the Boston away.

My first impression of these speakers is that they are extremely neutral. Mids and highs sound very uncolored. Vocals hold together well, being slightly forward with no added sibilance. This suits me much better than the Bostons, where the vocals tended to sound receded and hissy. Highs seem very clear and detailed without being bright. I have seen people claim that NHT's are bright, but I don't hear that on my system, even though Sony ES electronics have a reputation for being a little on the bright side. After living with the NHT's for a month, I hooked the Boston's back up and they sounded extremely bright compared to the NHTs.

This speaker also has incredible bass extension for the price. Music with drums and bass has a palpable feel that is totally absent on many other speakers I have heard. Dolby Digital soundtracks also shine. I don't feel the need for a subwoofer at all. However, in my room (12.5' x 19' x 11.5') there is a little too much bass. I believe this is probably due to the room dimensions and placement than a flaw in the speaker itself.

Obviously for surround sound these match the SuperOne perfectly. Panning from back to front is much more seamless than when I was using the Boston's.

I also like the design and workmanship. The black piano finish is alot nicer than the fake woodgrain many speakers use. The slender, raised towers look very elegant.

In summary, I think these are outstanding speakers. If you already have a pair of SuperOne's or SuperZero's these are a great way to upgrade to surround sound. I do believe they benefit from decent electronics. They seem to mate well with my Sony 555ES, so the mid-range Denons and Yamaha's would probably work well also. I would be a little hesitant to recommend these speakers to someone with a small room. Beyond that, I have no reservations about the SuperTwo.

Strength:

Clarity, accuracy, detail

Weakness:

Bass identity

Great speaker in general; clarity, detail, nicely balanced throughout. Bass is ample, but at times can be slightly vague as to the type of instrument. A minor quibble, especially in view of the price. A lot of speaker for the money. Bass extention is impressive; not flabby like some I've heard costing 2-3 times more.

Requires decent power supply, however wattage doesn't tell the whole story. I'm using a 12 yr old 30 watt H/K receiver and it does just fine; better than some supposedly"100 watt" Sony/JVC/Kenwood types. Paradigm Ref. 20's were too bright and w/o the bass extension; B/W 602's were great but again lacked lower frequencies. The Paradigm Monitor 7 was like chopping off all the highs and adding a bloated bass.

Strength:

accurate low end, neutral sound, value

Weakness:

a bit bright when pushed

I've always been into the home theater/stereo and about 6 months ago I got the itch pretty bad to get a system together. My system gets used 50/50 for music and movies and I was looking for the most performance for the best price.

I listened to a bunch of speakers as listed above, I almost got the Monitor Audio Silver Series. Then I heard the NHT SuperTwos. I remember specifics about all of the above speakers...Polk RT800's had a nice warm sound, crankable...B&W's great tweeter dominated the woofers too much, Monitor Audio Silver Series were fatiguing to listen to at moderate volumes...etc. Then I heard the SuperTwos, I had the salesman switch to the next brand because I did not notice anything specific after listening to one song. That is when I realized how good these speakers are, when you listen to the SuperTwos you listen to the music being played not the speaker. They are very neutral sounding with an accurate low end and have great imaging.

I have the SuperTwos hooked up to a Yamaha 795 receiver and I am running SuperOnes for surrounds and center channel. (The SuperOnes are also a remarkable speaker.) This is a great set up, I could have spent tons more and got less performance and satisfaction. The Yamaha is also a very neutral sounding, accurate receiver even when pushed. So the NHTs will not sound too bright at high volumes required for movies.

Overall the SuperTwos are a very complete speaker; great value and looks to match its great overall performance.

Highly recommended.

Are there any other places that i should check out before shelling out the dough for these awesome speakers? thanks

Strength:

neutrality, side to side imaging

Weakness:

sound quality at low and high volumes

Most of the reviews at this site, by Etown and other pro publications and web sites seem to emphasize the obvious strengths of the SuperTwos. However, there are soom weaknesses that should be noted:
These speakers sound great at medium volumes, but they are too quiet at low levels. In addition, they run out of gas too soon, atleast with my system. I'm using a Audiosource Amp three(150w/ch) and the Super Twos sound compressed too soon when I turn up the volume. I was using some classic? 1977 Advent loudspeakers prior to the super Two, and I could play them as loud as I wanted before they gave in. I guess I was expecting too much. However, I'm using the Two's in a small room so I can't imagine them sounding "loud" and powerfull enough for large rooms. The reviews by Steve Guttenbergin in E-town and John Potis in SMR are bull, with regards to loudness abilities. In general, from reading reviews in audio magazines these days, I think most reviewers have redefined "loud" to mean something that is loud for your grandmother. However, for those of us who are not reviewers, who don't care about having our names in quotes in the company's ads, or are still in the 18-34 demo., the Super Twos are not "loud" speakers.

deceide on (NHT super two) for front/(NHT super center) for center and (NHT super one) for surround/ for sub I deceided
on a nother brand...After hooking everything up on A Good(?) Reciever I felt like A king for the price Icoulnt belive it.
the should not be a reason to by anything bigger or"better"
not on less your room is 300 feet by 300 feet
in other words anythig "bigger or better"
is a waste of you money

Just bought a set of the NHT SuperTwos and I am extremely impressed. They, along with SuperZero surrounds, replace a Bose AM10 system I've been babysitting for friend who was tranferred overseas for a year. Compared to the SuperTwos, the Bose were like listening to music underwater.
The highs are amazing. I'm working my way through my entire CD collection and I'm hearing things I've never heard before. The bass is tight and the downward aiming subwoofers can shake the house with our hardwood floors. If I get more interested in HT, I will consider a separate subwoofer, but for music, the bass is excellent.

One last thing, the looks of these speakers can not be beat. Thought I would have a hard time getting wife approval moving from the satellites to tower speakers in the living room. My wife, an interior designer, couldn't be happier with their appearance. Unfortunately, she purchased a $200 plate to put on the mantle to match the speakers. Oh well, I can't complain - she has her plate, I have great speakers, we're both happy. Five stars for the total package - price, sound, looks.

I just brought home these Super Twos after an exhaustive audition of 7 sets of speakers. These speakers were the clear winner for me. The overall sound is lifelike and airy. Cymbals sound like cymbals, and the bass is very tight. I strongly recommend these to anyone looking for top notty speakers. (And they aren't even broken in yet). Five stars because I've achieved the precise sound I was looking for at a hell of a price ($660 / pair).
