I went out looking for the best sounding speaker I could get for less than $1000. After listening to a couple of floorstanders (in the sick belief they're always better than monitors) I decided that I wanted NHT 2.5i, even though they we're way out of my budget. I held on to that belief for quite a while and figured I'd just have to save up! Then, one day, I walked by a Linn dealer and realized I hadn't checked his stuff out. In I went, and fell totally in love with Linn Tukans. Monitors. What the hell? Anyway, brought them home and loved them even more. Damn, the sound of them small ones! I also borrowed a friend of mine's NHT 2.5i. They totally hated my room and the only placement I could come up with that made them sound like I was used to them sounding, was placing them in the absolut middle of the room. All boomy and totally lousy otherwise. The Tukans had them sooo beat. Problem: WAF (wife-acceptance-factor) was low for the Tukans. Way too bright in her opinion. Revealing and very very engaging in mine. Brought them back to the Linn dealer who proposed the Linn Keilidhs instead. At the store they were outperformed by the cheaper and smaller Tukans, but I thought I'd give it a try. But, I thought, I really want to be sure I'm making the right choice here. So, off I went to another dealer trying to find the best speaker in his store. Without no doubt whatsoever, I loved the NHT Super-Two's best. No other speakers in the store were even in the same division. I promise! I tried like 6 other pairs of speakers, can't remember the brands, but this is a high-end store, no pioneer or sony or dali garbage!
So, now I had the Linn Keilidhs and the NHT Super-Two's at home. I quickly realized that in my livingroom, the S2's beat the crap out of the 2.5i's I had previously had there. Way way better sounding. Between the Super-Two's and the Keilidhs however, the differences were very very small. I found that very strange since the Linn's were so much more expensive. I had big problems deciding on what speaker to like the most, as did my wife. We listened for hours and hours before finally coming to some kind of conclusion: the S2's we're easier to listen to. Fewer CD's sounded like crap. Female vocal sss'es wasn't as prominent with the S2's. The Keilidhs was more revealing. Guitars and other instruments were alot better. So, we were to choose between two very revealing speakers with one of them being even more revealing (the Keilidhs). I find the crispiness and "that little extra" very appealing and therefore think the Keilidhs are 'better' speakers, even though they make 70% of my CD-collection sound like crap. With the S2's the percentage is more like 40. Had I not been the one I am, ready to accept that and from now on seriously considering the recording quality of a CD before buying it, I would have chosen the S2's. My wife loved them aswell (a bit more actually), but had was not hard convincing into letting me get the Keilidhs instead.

So, in fewer words, if you want to be able to live with a bigger amount of CD's, the S2's is the way to go for a normal livingroom. The Keilidhs ain't. They are too revealing which isn't everybody's cup of tea I realize. If you want extreme crispiness, save up for the Keilidhs instead. (Or find them used for the price of a new pair of S2's, which I did :-) )

Five stars without a doubt for the wonderful wonderful S2's. Only the fact that I found them Keilidhs so cheap and appreciate their extreme crispiness made my choose them instead.

System: Harmon Kardon AVR55, Super Twos Front L/R, Super One Center, Super One Rear L/R, Mit 4's Front and Center Cables, Jade Interconnects,
A.R. 12 Ga. rear cables (40FT.)

I had Infinity's but at some point and time you need to move up, sold the infinitys and was going to buy the 2.5I's, I love the 2.5's but didnt feel the avr55 was enough to push them, so I listened to the Super Twos and loved them, soundstage is great, precise, good bass, even though I am buying a Sub as I type. The Super Ones compliment the Twos, the finish is the best Ive seen unless you are looking at some wilson pups, sonus or something like that.

I think for the money you cant get a better set-up, I paid $548 from Netmarket for the Twos and $280 (about) for the pair of Ones, they got the sub for $649, I could not find a better deal anywhere.

Only negative I have is the down firing 6 1/2. I have them on carpet and you can tell a BIG change if you angle the speakers back, I am going to set them on marble tile to get them off the carpet..

Strength:

Clear, amazing highs. The best bass I could find for the price.

Weakness:

Power hungry, hope you like gloss black because that's all you're getting

Wow. These things keep getting better. After searching for months I decided on these speakers based on the quality of sound in this price range. I looked at little bostons and Dynaudios, but for under 1000 dollars you don't get any bass. I wanted to build a system from the ground up (with bass) for 2000 bucks. The NHT's allowed me to get nice bottm end out of my NAD 317 without blowing the budget. The closest competitor was the Energy XL26. They have the same list price and image well, but the NHT's just sound better. The bass isn't boomy (like the Energys), just tight and nicely defined. The high end continues to blow my mind. Cymbals and percussion just float out of these towers as if the instruments are in the room. The separation of detail
within the music just sucks me into CD's I've heard hundreds of times. The sound stage and imaging are as good as anything for under a thousand dollars. As they break in it just gets better. I got mine for 700 bucks, which I find to be a great deal. My bargain basement System came together like this
NAD 317 integrated, 80w (Qaudio $610)
NHT Super Two's (6th Ave $699)
Rotel RCD971 (6th Ave $699)
MIT Terminator 4 cables (Audio Advisor $59)
Tarra Labs prism 33i interconnects (the Cable Company $59)
There you have it. Great sound for about $2000. I can't stop playing my CD's. It's like the whole collection is brand new.

STILL HAVEN'T BOUGHT THE MAIN SPEAKERS YET BUT WAS LOOKING TO GET ADVISE HERE. I'M GOING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE NHT SUPER TWO'S AND THE PSB T4'S. WHICH ONES ARE THE BETTER SPEAKERS? I'M GOING TO BE USING IT FOR HOME THEATER AND KARAOKE. BTW, IS IT OKAY TO MIX DIFFRENT SPEAKERS FOR CENTER AND SURROUNDS. MUCH APPRECIATED.

Strength:

Sonic bang for the buck

Weakness:

As with any speaker, needs to be matched to the correct amp/receiver.

I've owned at least one pair of NHT speakers ever since I pawned off an old pair of Kenwood (cough) 'speakers' 7 years ago. Although NHT has now entered the somewhat dubious fold of Jensen International, the brand has held true to its initial capabilities of offering 'mid end' speakers at a decidedly low end price.
All NHT speakers are victims of low sensitivity and thus need moderately strong amplifiers to power them. (Hint: 50W RMS is a MINIMUM) Most of my NHTs have played courtesy of a Yamaha RX-V2090 reciever which i feel is a 'good' source for them. (Avoid Sony receivers w/ these speakers at all costs!).
The SuperTwos displaced my 2.1s to the bedroom. The S2s have a cleaner, but also more pronounced upper midrange than the 2.1s. In 95% of listening situations, the S2s are a better bet. Be wary however if you are looking for them to work well for 'unreasonably loud' playback. The S2s really become shrill in the mid-high range (3KHz+) if pushed too far. (You'll know when you get there, fatigue sets in quickly!) They are definitely not party music speakers, critical listening is more their niche.
The S2s perform quite nicely on their own for 5.1 movie playback in small to medium sized rooms (

Strength:

Full(er) range, price.

Weakness:

Somewhat inconsistent sound quality from top to bottom

Hey, these are great speakers, especially for the money. I bought them as a temporary speaker while I would be living in a smaller apartment for only 3 months, planning to replace them once I moved into a house. I decided to go with these for their relatively full range and price. As an avid fan of classical music, especially organ, I needed some bass extension. These have lots of it, down to the claimed response (I checked it with a meter), though the bass may sound a bit boomy at some frequencies. It is not enough to bother me though, especially for the price. I should note that when I went to buy them the dealer had a used pair of B&W DM605's (the biggest of the DM series), and they wanted an additional 3-400 dollars for them. When I walked in I thought that I would spend the extra $$ for the B&W's, which I have owned (Matrix 802's, Ser III - awesome). I was almost very dissapointed though when I A/B'd the two, and the B&W just had no palpaple bass. I don't know why, especially for a pair more than twice the price of the NHT's. The NHT's produced nice, relatively tight bass in which you could hear individual bass pitches, and had an overall "nice" sound from top to bottom (though the midrange was not quite as "warm" as any B&W). And they do image well, just to add my two cents to the previous debates.
If you want a pair of value speakers, these are good. But you have to consider what kind of music you like. If I listened to jazz or chamber music only, I would do everything in my power to pick up a pair of used B&W CDM-1's, which will blow away the NHT's for maybe a 100 dollars more. But if you need fuller range, the NHT's are a nice buy. I only give them 3 stars overall because sound quality is the most important "overall" thing to me, and I am not taking into account value, which I obviously give 5 stars. Again, a great speaker for the money.

Strength:

clear high, smooth mid and tons of bass, good image very reasonable price.

Weakness:

need a lot of watt > 100

you got the best sound in this price range. After you place this speaker in the right position, it can give you the sound that you longing for, it all there. I really love the high, it has body not thin eventhough it is very clear. The mid is so smooth and warm. Lastly bass is very punch and can go very deep, expectually when you used it with bi-amp

Feet

I upgrded from the SuperOne's (which will serve as surrounds) to the SuperTwo's and I've been nothing short of astonished. They took everything that was great about the S1, and added solid, accurate bass down to it's stated 35Hz. These speakers are simply amazing. I picked them up new on EBay for $510 and would put them up against any $1500 speaker. At first I had them hooked up to my Sony STR-DB830 and they sounded a bit bass-shy. I then separated my HT system from my music system and hooked them up to my NAD C340 Integrated Amp and NAD C520 CD player. All I could say was WOW! There's the bass I knew these things were capable of! Using Delos' Surround Spectacular Test CD and my Radio Shack SLM I got smooth readings down to 35Hz within +/- 3 dB. These things rock. They are extremely revealing and accurate, especially for music listening. They can't belt out 120dB for an explosion scene but anyone using DD should be using a sub anyway. The SuperTwo/NAD combo produced true High-End sound for $1000. This isn't mid-fi, it's the real deal. The only complaint I have is that the feet do not give the bottom speaker enough clearance, at least in my room. I devised my own little remedy by placing ice-hockey pucks under each foot ($8 total) and it doesn't look too bad at all. I highly recommend these speakers to anyone looking to get high-end sound on a beer-budget. Well done NHT.

Great Sound Period. great range for thier size.. small footprint great for apartment
Ahhhh,,, soft dome tweeters

Weakness:

Hard to keep clean. Chinsy foot spikes

These things rock.. make sure you have a good amp and great cables and you will be stoked on the super2's. I use them for my mains with the sony 935 and some canare 14quad cables, together with the super center, and super one's for surround, and it's a great system for under $1,500. Excellent bass response, nice clean mids, and awesome high's, can't stand ti or aluminum tweeters, it's all about soft domes. The sony is a little underpowered for these but it still sounds great.. I would recommend an Onkyo in the same price range (I forget the model number) but they seems to have a little more juice than sony. If you don't want to break the bank and want really good speakers the super two is a great way to go.
