Strength:

details for the buck

Weakness:

maybe not stylish to somebody

I got it through Ebay. Magnificent speakers. For its small
size, the sound is amazingly deep. I also auditioned the Paradigm Studio 20, and I am not convinced a significant improvement for the sound quality. Much better than the
Advent I had. In my audition, only big bipolar speakers like the Definitive BP2000 could make a significant difference.

Strength:

Amazingly accurate, suprising lows, unbeatable price

Weakness:

I have to leave them at home when I go to work

I began shopping for a good set of book shelf speakers about a year ago. I use them mainly for music but they are also the front speakers in my home theater. I have limited space, main listening area is 6 ft away, and a limited budget, Im a college student working part time.

After consulting with friends, dealers and reading internet reviews, I narrowed my selection down to three pairs. The JBL Studio series (S38) and Infinity Interludes (IL10). Bass was not an important factor because I have a powered subwoofer so I set them to small anyway. They were all relatively the same price because I have access to the other tow brands at accomadation prices.

Now to the review, these speakers are amazing! I have absolutely no regrets in purchasing except that they reveal the other weaknesses in my system. after using them for approx. a month I purchased Monster Cable Z1 wires to replace older speaker cable. I have been so impressed with them that I turn off my old center channel (a yamaha) so as not to diminish the sound during movies. Anyone who is looking for a great speaker at a great price is foolish to pass these up.

I also looked at the mini monitors but decided the difference in sound did not justify the difference in price.

My system:

JVC 36" D-Series
Yamaha HTR-5280
Pioneer DV-525
Paradigm Titans
older Technics Cd-player
Monster Cables, wires, and clean power center (highly reccommend this as well)

Strength:

The Titan has a very clear and full sound for such a small and reasonably priced speaker. It makes a great rear surround speaker.

I got the Titans to replace Paradigm ADP70's for the rear surround speakers. They are an excellent match for the Paradigm Phantoms I have for my front right & left speakers. I didn't care for the small sound put out by the ADP70 but I didn't step up to the ADP170 because I also didn't care for the vague non-directional sound these bipolar/dipolar speakers put out. They may be just fine for Prologic receivers but they didn't do the job right for the Dolby Digital DVD's I listened to. The separate left & right rear signals produced by Dolby Digital sound much better when you CAN tell where the source of the sound is coming from. For example, jets or helicopters that fly around you or enter the TV screen from over your shoulder are much more realistic coming from an exact point source. The Titans are an excellent buy for this purpose.

My system consists of all Paradigm speakers. I got all of them except the Titans in a factory "blem" sale from my local dealer. At $180, the Titans were a good buy anyway. My system consists of:
Front Right & Left - Phantoms
Rear Right & LEft - Titans
Front Center - CC170
SubWoofer - PS1000

Strength:

Solid bass
Good looks
loud

Weakness:

Cannot remove the grilles
Sometimes i get a "popping" sound in them if i drive them too hard

I love these speakers and have torture tested them in 5 channel stereo as well as plain stereo. They match up great with my Paradigm CC-170 center speaker. The only problem that i have with them is that they "pop" at high volume levels. This only seems to happen if i run them in 2 channel stereo for some reason. This does not bother me very much since i usually use them as surrounds or in 5 channel stereo.

Some say it is good for money; some say Titan is just 'ok' for the price. I agree with them all. But when you audit the speakers, you can't put them on one shelf without considering their prices.

I own this pair about a month. I am reasonably happy with the Titan-v2. Besides the attractive price of Titan, I bought it only $233(cdn), it has a very decent bass along its peer bookshelf speakers. I bet you won't get this tight bass from JBL800, even mission 700. You can hear the similar bass from PSB, another inexpensive speaker manufacturer. I gave PSB Alpha and 300I a try when purchasing Titan. PSB300I($300US) has the most unbiased bass among the three. PSB-Alpha overall is very close to Titan; but I find it lacks the accuracy on the high. Paradigm Titan plays back the most detail in this price range. The vocals and highs are generally also clear. But in some music, it loses the control of high frequency and turns out to be a bit hash. It has more coloration then its sibling Mini-Monitor, but which has to be paid 80% more. Anyway, the price is always a big hinge of the speaker in your stereo system. But the rule is not always the more you pay the more performance you get.

Don't forget to pair the Titans with speaker stands. Actually it is necessary to budget a pair of stands for bookshelf speakers, if your speaker is not a decoration. I got a pair of Target ($120cdn) for my Titan; it's a well-known British manufacturer.

Well, Titan is a good speaker for sub-$400cdn class. An extra $300 will give you a remarkable jump on bookshelf speaks. There are the list of good $/performace value speakers (they all Canadian made)
PSBMini($180), PSB300i/400i
Paradigm Mini-monitor/monitor3
Angstom Omega5 ($350)
Signet SL260/266($400)/(more)
Totem Mites ($600) you won't believe it!!!
Coincident Speaker Technology Triumph ($800)This is the best bookshelf speaker for sub-$1000, plus you only Canadian dollors.

I don't want to devalue the speaks from other contries. Just you get them for a bid in Toronto. Tannoy M2, B&W302/601/602, Mission771 are all great speakers!

Strength:

Excellent value, good dynamics, smooth non-fatiguing highs

Weakness:

Significant mid-bass hump muddies up the lower midrange

I REALLY wanted to like these speakers. I got them for a great deal and after all the gushing reviews I couldn't wait to hear them.

Hooked them up to my main system of carefully selected budget seperates and was quite dissapointed. Even my wife thought they sounded "unclear" with poor "seperation of instruments" (her words - not mine, although I was inclined to agree).

EXCELLENT bass for the size of the speaker, that mid-bass hump just really got in the way and significantly muddied up the midrange. Yes, I tried different placements and even a different system. The Titans did sound better in my receiver based office system which tamed some of the warmth of this speaker, but the congestion in the lower mids was still there.

The rest of the spectrum was well reproduced and the Titans handled loud passages quite well. I did notice just a slight lack of high frequency detail, but this will likely be beneficial with some of the equipment the Titans will likely be used with. Build quality is on par with other speakers in it's price range, my V2's were finished in an attractive black ash.

In the end, however, I could not live with the congestion of the lower mids. Speaker reviews are so subjective, everyone has their own tastes. I can see certain individuals really liking this speaker - just not me.

In the end I feel very generous giving it three stars, for me a two star rating is more appropriate.

I've had my Titans for 8 years. I'm just now getting around to upgrading. However I'm not getting rid of them. They'll become surround speakers as I'm moving to a home theater system. I've had the Titans mated to a Yamaha reciever , and I have to say they are a very efficient combination. I first bought them in college, and really appreciated their excellent sound for something that fits on a narrow shelf in a tiny (11'x9'!) room. Since then, every time I wanted to upgrade, I remembered the $200 I spent on them, and decided that I'd really see what I could get. Paradigm in general has got to be the best value. They aren't the best sounding speakers that I've listened to, but they are the best value I've seen. I'm upgrading to Wharfedale Saphire 89s for my mains, and hope that they blend well with the Titans. If they don't, I might find myself replacing the Wharfedales. I don't think I'll ever sell the Titans.

I purchased a pair of these to be used by my little brother (9 years old). I figure I'll get him off to the right start and give him the speakers I never had when I was his age. Needless to say these speakers spanked the hell outta the bose 301's my father wanted for him. And for only $75 used in perfect condition, how can I go wrong. On absolute terms however, these speakers sounded conjested in the upper midrange. Also the bass extension was a bit light. But what can you expect from a small bookshelf speaker? Maybe I'm too used to my Studio 20's. But nonetheless an excellent bargin and a great entry level piece.

Yes, they are only bookshelfs but wow! Paradigm just makes great speakers. Quality, quality, and guality. They sound as good as some floor speakers. Very full and clear. For the money they are a steal. I had used as my mains for a little while and now I they are my rears. They sound great any way you use them (front, rear, music, movie).

my system- creek 5350-denon cd-wire world cables. my son last night brouht over some polk 15i speakers he just recently got. he wanted to here them on my system his is a cheap jap system. so i thought while your here lets see how they compare to titans that i had in my older system. i never was impressed by the titans. they never would image very well. the vocals never had pinpoint imaging and the music had no depth. even with my new system. fired up these little pols not expecting much and damn they sounded good. they had lots better imaging than the titans. they even had a little depth to the sound stage. the titans had better dynamics and clearer treble response though. the polks sounded warmer and drew me into the music alot more than the titans. i liked the polks better. their cabinets are built a hell of a lot better and look better. i was really impressed by these little polks. i want to say one thing about the titans though. dont get me wrong though the titans sound good to. they sound to dry for me. i cant believe they sound as good as they do as sorry as their cabinets are. they have very thin side walls and a plastic back. you caint even remove the grills ethier. constrution brings my over all rating down on these speakers. related to cost heres my opinion. paradigm needs to put these drivers in a better cabinet i dont care if it did cost a little more it would be worth it. that cheap thin cabinet hurts the sound on these .
