I've had my 300ti's a couple of weeks now and am impressed. They replaced a 10-year-old set of ACI G2's (with 10" woofers), and the only down side I can hear in comparing the two is that the 300ti's don't go as deep.
But the quality of the midrange and high frequencies is wonderful and more than makes up for the lack of bass extension! (Don't get me wrong, the quality and quantity of the bass is impressive, just not as deep as what I'm used to.) Very detailed, crisp and accurate without sounding harsh or overdone. And talk about imaging! I listen to a lot of orchestral music and can for the first time hear individual instruments with each section of the orchestra.

Don't hesitate. Order yours today before they're gone.

Audition this speaker and found that it has very nice smooth highs andoverall good sound. It needs good stands and decent components or it will
sound boomy ( like any other speaker that is worth listening to ). I
prefer this speaker for jazz and rock, but not so much for classical.
Good speaker for the price ($400 locally w/o stands, or $499 at Audio
Advisor w/ stands). Very worth auditioning. Bring along your
Holly Cole, Pink Floyd, Braveheart sound track or whatever you listen to.
1 star is too harsh for this particular speaker. My only real compliant is
that certain female voices sounded kinda different that I remember it to be.

Positives- Exremely musical Very coherent, Highs very detailed
but not over aggressive. Speakers acoustically disappear.
Actually prefer over the overly bright and somewhat bass-laden
Energy C8 speakers and the much less musical Definitive
Technology line.

Negatives Not very pleasing aesthetically. Cannot drive a very large room.
Could be slightly more transparent.

I have now spent a year and a half with these speakers and have no desire to change. As I continually upgrade the rest of my system, these speakers refuse to not improve. I am honestly amazed at how jaw-droppingly good the 300ti's are. I have a system worth approximately 10,000 and I cannot jettison these speakers. They are just too damn well balanced and, in my room, cannot be beat. Believe me, I have tried to have a speaker that costs approximately the same as the rest of my system, but something was always missing. The only speakers I felt were better were from Audio Physic- both the Tempo and Virgo were better than the 300ti, but i couldn't justify the difference in price at the time. Besides, I was amazed at how close they were. To be honest, these are some of the best speakers I have ever heard at any price. I grew up listening to many different speakers (Quads, Magnepans, Vandersteens, Wilsons, and Avalon), as my father was an owner of a hi-fi store, so I feel I have a pretty good point of reference. The trebele and bass are really amazing. Not boomy like so many other people are mentioning, though I am sure they are underpowering these speakers with some crappy receiver. The midrange, though slightly recessed, is still liquid and draws you into the performance, which I love. I cannot recommend these speakers highly enough.

I've owned a lot of high dollar gear, but these are the only speakers the had me listening to the music ( instead of my equipment ) right out of the box. The sound is detailed and balanced with an impressive soundstage and imaging. They disappear and leave you with nothing but the music. If you want to impress your friends with the cost of your system, or are into audio exotica, these aren't for you. Anyone giving these less than 4 stars has a seriously weak link in their system and should diagnose the problem before they audition any more speakers. As for their looks, they're not ugly, just elegantly plain. If you love music, buy them if you can. They are the single best audio buy I've made. If these speakers had cost 5 times what I paid, I would still give them five stars.

One of the surprising things about these speakers is the wide range of opinions that they get in reviews, from both magazines and from end users. My conclusion is that there is truth in what everyone has said (with the possible exception of a statement by Audio Advisor as I will explain below).
I have six 300Tis that I'm currently using in a home theater rig with two run in parallel (through two 100 watt amps) acting as a center channel. I've used them with a variety of tube and solid-state amps producing 12 watts(SE triode), 35 watts, 70 watts, 100 watts, and 400 watts (Sunfire into 6 ohms). I've used them in several different environments and in pure stereo as well as surround-sound applications.

Let me offer my own opinions first and then try to reconcile some of the conflicting reports of others. I have found the 300 Tis to be outstanding in performance for the dollar. Under the right circumstances, they are musical, articulate, and produce true high-end sound. In direct A-B comparison with speakers costing five to ten times the price, I find the midrange to be a bit recessed, even a little "honky" sounding. But the key here is that it takes a direct comparison for this shortcomming to be noticeable, at least to me. In my home theater rig, I am using them with a Velodyne FSR-18 subwoofer (1250 watts into an 18 inch driver). Acting alone, the bass is reasonable from the 300Tis (considering their size and efficiency), but the Velodyne takes it to a new domain, as it should. The treble response is very detailed and smooth. The speakers image quite well and "disappear" when a well-imaged recording is played through them. In the surround mode, the "front four" put out a "wall of sound" that will knock your socks off, with or without the sub!

So what about all these conflicting opinions? Harry Pearson loved these speakers, as did Tamara Baker and others at the Absolute Sound. $ensible $ound, however, thought they were good, but not wonderful. Remember that the speakers captivated Harry when he heard them playing without a direct A-B comparison. I have corresponded with Tamara, and she agrees with the midrange shortcoming, but stands by her overall evaluation. I agree with all, but the key for me is this: I don't buy speakers to do A-B comparisons; I buy them to enjoy music. (I know, I get sick of reading statements like that myself!)

Now let's consider the observation that they can be "overwhelmed" when pushed. In my tests, I've found them to sound quite good up to 100 dB when driven by 70 watts output (stereo mode) in a room that is 20 feet by 30 feet by nine feet. Louder, they lose detail and then fall apart with that amp (a solid-state unit that clips at 70 watts into 8 ohms impedance), and I've never done measurements at higher power. Whether or not that means that they are easily overwhelmed is obviously a matter of taste. It is important to note, however, that Audio Advisor claims "90 dB" sensitivity. AA does not, however, state how they define sensitivity. The manufacturer says that these speakers' sensitivity is 86db 1W/1m. AA may have computed the "90 dB" by reference to 2.83 volts input (instead of one watt), which will get you close to 90 dB at one meter at the rated impedance of six ohms. (Robert Harley, in *The Complete Guide to High End Audio,* says "Loudspeaker manufacturers can cheat on sensitivity figures by using the 2.83V figure...." And remember that AA touts this book as a wonderful reference.) The key message of all this is that the combination of impedance and sensitivity of the 300Tis may be the culprit in the problem of being "overwhelmed." It may be the amplifier/speaker lashup that's the problem -- that is, if "overwhelmed" has to do with performance under load. (By the way, ever wonder why Stereophile insists on the term "loudspeaker" instead of just "speaker"? I think the term "loudspeaker" should be reserved for sensitivities of 93 dB or more!)

And what about the problem of loose, boomy bass? Someone told me a couple of years ago that he had a problem with a "bump" in the 300Ti bass response. He said it was mitigated by placing the speakers on a firm foundation and putting a weight on top, but he couldn't resolve it to his satisfaction. The manufacturer's literature says "A solid floor is preferred to avoid exaggeration of low frequencies." I'm not sure what "a solid floor" means: concrete versus wood or wood versus carpet perhaps? All I can say is that I've not had the problem, but I don't doubt that others have, and an audition with your electronics in your listening environment at your listening levels is certainly a good idea. I should also note that I rarely listen to music at sustained levels above 90 dB. Those who listen at higher volumes will naturally be more sensitive to over-emphasis of bass, since the human ear emphasizes bass more at higher volumes.

In summary, the 300Tis work very well for me in my surround system. I'm not as picky about the surround system as I am about my separate stereo system (which has $3000 speakers), since movie sound varies from decent to awful, and unlike CDs, I won't discover a good-sounding movie and play it repeatedly to enjoy the sound. If I were buying today and had under $600 to spend, the 300Tis might still be my choice, but I'd have to hear the new Sound Dynamics RTS-3s first. They're getting even better reviews overall than the 300Tis and they're cheaper. In fact, if you have a good sub, the RTS-3s are probably a better bet. One thing is certain: Sound Dynamics is producing some excellent-sounding, no-frills products -- something that all of us should appreciate.

These are killer little speakers with very tight base. Of course, they're not the the best speakers in the world, but you'd be hard-pressed to find anything better for the same price (I paid $350). I'll put it thus: The more I listen to these speakers, the more I like them. To me, that's the sign of a damn good pair of speakers, or any other audio component for that matter.

I wanted to updated my review where I felt that the bass response was a bit loose/fuzzy/boomy...
After I owned these speakers a few months, someone suggested that I really should put the supplied spikes on the stand - both under the speakers and between the floor and the stand. I didn't think it would matter and didn't want to scratch into the wood floor. But I reluctantly tried it and was blown away. Everything came together. They sounded even better (and I loved them in the first place). I was completely surprised that this would make the difference it did.

Unbelievble sound for the money. I auditioned several speakers including paradigm, B+W, Klipsh good speakers but not as sweet and lifelike as the 300ti's Not quite as much hard hitting bass as I would like, but I guess they were'nt
made for that. Very low fatigue when listening to these. Post below was right when she said these speakers disappear, the music comes alive. If you are in the market for $500-$600 speakers these will be hard to beat.
(Search for 300ti on infoseek and read John Potis Jr. review of these)

whaere do i start I tried to like the sound dynamic 300ti speakers , it's seams to be a straight foward design tree drivers enclosed in a rather normal yet dull styled box. I tried using many different pieces of equiptment to drive them I believe tubes at the moment with this speaker move me more then transitors . Now on with the sound on some small scale music they really sing on the verve duke ellington cd soul call the speaker is very natural the sound is open and has what heary person once called authority feeling which is rare in such a low price speaker , on a rr label recording of ; nojima plays Liszt; the piano has wonderfull body, key sound is clear and weighty finger moment is quick but not as quick as panel type speakers. on a verve arthur prysock cd ;a great artist prysock; the voice is clean but voice is to big oh yes one thing I do like is vocals don't sound shrunken. Now the very weak points try as I must on a good vinyl this speaker just will not disapper try as I must I moved them everywhere no dice now i have a square room not good but i have had better success with other designs . on none complex music they seem to shine as the music gets more complex case in point chesky rc10 stravinsky ; song of the nightingale the woofer cones go berserk and bottom out the speaker also seems to get razzeld on mercury copland rodeo sr90172 on on volumes no way the speaker cannot keep up it get to a point of confusion.so I leave you with this listen to them in your own home with your equiptment .
