Strength:
Full bass. Great value if you can get them for what I paid.
Weakness:
A bit weak in the mid-range. The price above includes Ubid’s exorbitant shipping charges. I purchased these speakers through ubid a little over a month ago. I hooked them up to a “new” Harman Kardon AVR 65. It first I was disappointed at the muddiness and poor separation of the sound. I cannot say whether this was the receiver or the speakers. Once the system warmed up, my opinion changed quickly. Overall the speakers produce full, warm bass but are a bit weak in the mid-range. At times a find the treble a bit harsh, but my opinion here has also softened, as have the speakers over the past month. I have added an Acoustic Research center channel to my system, and no longer experience the weakness in the midrange. Overall I am quite happy with these speakers. DVDs sound terrific with them. Jazz and acoustic instruments sound great on them as well. They’re replacing a pair of KEF K-140s. The KEFs provide better instrument separation, tighter (although substantially weaker) bass and brighter midrange. The Wharfedales are warmer with fuller base. None what so ever WHARFEDALE.... a name 2 remember ! I bought those pair o` babies 6 hours ago so forgive me if i sounds a ltl bit unobjective.. ! my old sony''s E-515 (so lousy, u won`t beleive your ears ain`t lyin`) just finished up their short 5 monthes running time before they broke up so i decided 2 buy a NORMAL pair of loudspeakers for a reasonable price offcourse. so i did ! & boy what a great suprise ! those 2 black elegant monsters sound like a real bad ass mothefa**a ! every1 here already spoke about the amazing fat bass sound, but i''m affraid that not enough. Imagine yourself that doom''s day knockin` heavily on your door but no1 home ! so he keeps on knockin` & blastin` `till dawn.. & even that he`s keep on beatin`. The gentle cute external tweeter is in the same league with much more expansive brands, & u can defeintely hear that Whaferdale put a lot of thought in how exectly he supposed 2 sounds like. That''s about it, but since i`ve got tham for less than a day i truly hope that i won`t get dissopointed from those Monsters Inc. ! p.s. The grills ain`t THAT bad u know.. Strength:
Amazing directional Tweeters and excellent base, midrange cones. Rich natural sound.
Weakness:
The grilles, the grilles....and oh yes...the grilles. (Take them off and store them away - only put them on when there are 5 yr old kids running round the house!) I bought these speakers directfrom Wharfedale in the UK over the internet - they were selling off whole rafts of speakers - propbably in preparation for the new ranges (Pacific). Initially I was going toget some good Stand mounters - the 6 series, but the more I looked at the one-sixes and the more I read about them - the more I realised they would be better in the long run. I tried to get to somewhere to listen to them first- but no-one apart from Wharfedale stocked them...so I bit the bullet and bought them blind. When they arrived, the grill was broken on one of them - a quick call to Wharfedale fixed this - and a replacement pair were sent out straight away. These speakers handle just about everything I have thrown at them perfectly. I run them bi-wired using Gale flat cables and with spikes - sitting on solid bricks to avoid digging into my floorboards. They have an amazing rich bass and mid tones...and the tweeter - which is not to everyone''s liking perched on top is really dynamic and sweet sounding - having it directional is a plus. One problem I have had with them is that the tweeter is a bit over sensitive to people coming along and cranking up the volume. My Amp is a Yamaha AX-496 putting out 90 watts per channel - but these speakers are rated at 170...so the tweeters have popped a couple of times due to friends over pushing them at parties. Replacements are reasonably priced and come in a flash from Wharfedale. As a kid I dreamed of having Wharfedales -back in the 70''s and 80''s they were THE speakers to have.....now I have them - I ain''t leting them go! Similar Products Used: none - my first system was an Akai midi system with the original speakers - I thought it sounded great until the Wharfedales opened my eyes (and ears!) |

Strength:
Incredible base and clarity, Biwiring capability and LOW price
Weakness:
grilles are very weak but the speaker looks awesome without them I recieved these speakers this morning and have to say, I am astonished! These puppies will play, not just loud, clear and precise. They made me forget about the fact that I had blown up my prized Bose 301''''s. I will have to agree with alot of the reviews I have read about the grills, mine arrived with six of the mounting tabs broken off, but I could care less cause watching these speakers work is just as awesome as the sound they produce. I relied on what many people said and Biwired them, along with using the floor spikes. These things shake the skylights and pictures clear across my house, and sound great doing it. I paid a little more than I have been seeing because I wanted it right now, but they are worth every penny. If you want an awesome sounding speaker that will rock your house and not the bank, you cannot go wrong with the Modus one-six Similar Products Used: Bose 301 seriesV |

Weakness:
Flimsy grills that have made it into my closet, but haven''''t broken on me yet!!! Well, let me begin by saying that I am new to the whole home theater scene. I have, up to this point, only dreamed of owning my own equipment. I finally have saved and stretched every dollar I could to buy audio speakers, receiver, dvd player, etc. Now that I have made $500 stretch over my five main speakers, I can say with pride, that I truly have a great system for under $1000, including the Modus One Six as my mains, the Modus center channel, and the MFM-5 as my surrounds. This system amazes me every time I turn it on. As stated previously, I am new to this, so my opinions might not be highly validated, but I did compete in car stereo competitions for a while and know something about sound and a little about staging and these speakers- for the price I paid- can''''t be paralleled for under $300, probably not under $1000. Bi-wiring does wonders to the sound. Anyone that hasn''''t gone this route, you are missing out, it is like owning a completely new set of speakers!!! The imaging from these babies is enough to rock my apartment, with no need for a sub until I move into a house where the police officers won''''t be as easily come by. The swivel tweeter doesn''''t hurt with the sound either :) My fiance doesn''''t like the looks, but I think they are manly looking in my otherwise female-inspired decor. Anyway, I wanted to give my kudos to Wharfedale for the great speakers they have so graciously put in the market, all the people that have helped me along the way to making my purchases, and to Ubid... for selling these speakers at such a bargain price. Weakness:
So far none Recieved from U-Bid for $280 a pair. Delivered on time with shipping papers. As a musician (Opera singer) I am very attuned to music and accurate reproduction. These speakers will only be used for music, utilizing stereo two channel 100 clean watts per side. With my old speakers I had to boost everything to get a decent tonal quality out of them. The one six reproduces very clean at flat tone levels. Bass response is beautiful with out being boomy (sp). Fit and finish is very nice. I can't tell you all how happy we are with these. Strength:
I loved the crispness and clarity of the tweeter and mids. These speakers are very aesthetically pleasing
Weakness:
The sound level was low, compared to my infinity studio monitors, and the bass was dull. I hooked these up as soon as I got them out of the box and threw in a couple of listening discs. I was surprised at the sound level for these speakers it was alot less than a pair of the infinity's. But the clarity and soundstage more than made up for the level. I was blown away with the realism of these speakers. I will get another pair in the near future for my surrounds and I will have a live...system! Similar Products Used: Infinity sm-252, B&W 603S2 |
