Strength:

size, good sound from such a small unit. Perfect for surrounds.

Weakness:

none

Bought a set of these and am using them for my surrounds. Can't really complain at all - they're great for what I'm using them for. Couldn't imagine using them as my mains, but never heard them coupled with a sub used as mains, so they might be ok. Mounting is easy with the brackets provided.

Overall, a great little speaker at a very nice price.

Strength:

Don't take up much space. Easy to wall mount.

Weakness:

Harsh sound. Gap between the sats and the sub.

I have used the Quintets (with the Kilpsch recommended sub) for close to 2 years now. Looking back I wish I had save a bit more money and done some more comparison-shopping. I now realize that in the same price range I could have gotten a much smoother sound. There have been many occasions that I have had to rewind a DVD to understand the Audio. There is also a gap between the satellites and the sub, very noticeable with the THX sound demo. The speaker is OK for bedroom type system but I want something better for my main theater. I’m planning to do a major speaker upgrade so I can and get a much more enjoyable sound experience.

Strength:

Beautiful sounding mids and highs, exactly what they are designed to produce. I added an $80 powered subwoofer from Costco and was amazed, especially for adding a cheap sub.
Nice mounting design.

Weakness:

They almost sound too good to use as surrounds.

The Quintets should not be compared with full range speakers, like the Peaveys. But for the price, the Quintets have a much nicer sound than similar products. I looked at quite a few Bose systems, which can sound superb with perfect placement, but had trouble throwing out hundreds of dollars for a product that had no great advantages over these Klipschs.

I liked these speakers so well, I bought a pair of KG 3.5s without even hearing them first.

Strength:

Excellent HT surrounds, R/L fronts. Can handle anything I've dished out soundwise so far. Great value for the cost-conscious HT enthusiast.

Weakness:

Strange little feet and a wobbly neck, but what the hey!
;)

I bought my Bose Acoustimass-10 system in 1994 and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. I always hated those damn 300-gauge (exaggeration) cables and have cursed them every time I moved or rearranged my HT. How does one hide those things?

Over the last few months I began reading HT/speaker reviews on this site and realized what a bunch of elitists you all are when it comes to Bose (but that's okay--I am too, now).

I found these Klipsch Quintets on uBid and was so impressed with the first 4, I bought 4 more of them over the course of a couple of months; spending $29-$39 per speaker.

My Bose cost me $1199.00 ("we don't discount Bose") at the time and I considered it money well spent--until I hooked 12-gauge twisted cable to these Klipsch Quintets, hooked them up to my Yamaha HTR-5280 receiver and Toshiba SD-6200 DVD player, added a Klipsch KSC-C1 center (uBid for $139), a nice little 8" Dalhquist PDQ-800 SW (I may have to upgrade that, but it was only $79 on uBid) and turned on "Saving Private Ryan" in DTS.

WOW! I felt like someone who had recovered their hearing after being deaf since childhood!

My HT room is relatively small (12x15), but sound now fills, surrounds, enwraps and envelopes the listener. I'm sold on Klipsch (uBid ain't bad either).

BTW, I sold my Bose system to a friend for $300 and consequently almost paid for all of my new speakers!

Music

I have had these speakers for two months now and tested them with the following DVDs "Independence Day", "The Matrix", "Blade","U579","Lost in Space",and "Gladiator"and anything else that can distort speaker sound. I gotta say these little guys kick ass hands down!Everthing from explosions to machinegun shots to bullet shells dropping on the floor can be heard with clarity. I've been reading all the negatives about how bad these speakers are for music and I gotta say they fair pretty well listening to Van Halen's "Eruption" and Queen's live acoustic numbers from the cd "Live at Wembley". I have the Quintets hooked up to the Yamaha RX-V1000 (GREAT UNIT) along with the KSW12
subwoofer (line level). I'm enjoying evrthing that these little speakers have produced.

By the way, this message is to La Cucaracha Mantomagnala from Ebola: This website is for "Hi-Fi" fanatics not for "High Times" readers. Keep the nonsense off this site.

Strength:

Built in feet/stand/hangers, Quality build/construction. Nice and bright (but not too bright).

Weakness:

You WILL need a Sub

I love these little speakers! I tend to lean towards a brighter speaker and these fit the bill! Excellent reproduction when viewing DVDs or movies and the Sound quality for music is quite good too! They do need a good Sub to round out the sound. I guess some say they aren't suited for music? I just finished watching 'The Doors' and afterwards had to play my 'Best of the Doors' on CD... They both rocked! I heard parts of the music that I never really heard before. Granted the speakers are only part of a total A-V system. So... If you have marginal components, don't expect the speakers to make up for it! These little guys are definately keepers!

Weakness:

No bass... at all.

No bass at all. When I turned up the bass on my receiver, the woofer started to pop so I backed it down. This was somewhat disappointing since the JBL N24 had much more bass, and sounded fuller. If I had to choose, I would definitely take the N24s over the Quintets. I am still using the Quintets as surrounds because the N24's are fat and ugly. I will probably upgrade the whole system to in the near future.

Strength:

Great sound, both music, and DVD

Weakness:

Hard to fit the back brackets to mount the back ones, though all stay in place ok, despite some reviews. Need a sub.

I, and my friends, (Though also not perhaps "audiophiles" ), find these great for music, not just DVD's, coupled with my (separately purchased) sub and Sony DB-840 receiver. After experimenting, true "listening height" makes a big difference, despite being "bookshelf" size. They are directional for good sound. Several freinds are giong shopping after hearing my system.

I heard the results recently of a salesman flogging 2 speakers at more than double the price of the Quintet. (Without the sub.) He played for the customer Dianna Krall's "Popsickle". While I won't deny that these , from dual woofs and large tweeter were impressive, I played the same at home and got in my opinion the full value of every nuance and "pop" coupled with the sub to suffice for my listening pleasure (and budget, and to fit within an apartment sized room!). Haven't even been close to allow in my space what volume these suckers can put out, though I have partially cranked a few times (music) pleasureably. Mostly at low volumes (almost the lowest my receiver will allow) also pleasureably.
BUY THEM WITHOUT RESRVATION IF YOU ARE NOT FULL OF POCKET AND NOT A PURE AUDIOPHILE.

Strength:

Very well built-small-bracket mount-sound

Weakness:

none for such a speaker

I like those small speakers;I am using 4 of them for my HTS.When I read some of the reviews I was a little bit scared to buy them...!They are very good for HTS;of course I am not using them for music (my hi-fi system rely upon Martin Logan)but for movies they are perfect and very small. An additionnal feature is the wall bracket. For the price on Ebay (±$200/pair)they are hard to beat & the Klipsch CC is also very good.Don't forget that with such speakers a sub is a must.Good speaker cables will also improved them as with any other quality speaker (avoid zip cord!!!)

Strength:

Compact size, horn technology, comparatively priced

Weakness:

limited adjustability when mounted on wall...can toe in/out but only 30 degrees or so. Be sure to plan directional placement before mounting.

Speakers have clear reproduction at almost any normal volume level. They are rated @ 100W Cont., not meant to be used there as a standard listening level. I am total agreement with the reviews here on their movie capability. I would like to clear up some issues with music reproduction.

First of all, match speakers with your receiver. Not all amplifiers deliver perfectly amplified bandwiths to your speaker. I personally use Denon, low THD and High Current Power. The Klipsch sing to them. Not that I didn't have to tune the two. But the receiver saves your settings in any input so that you are not constantly tuning to what you are trying to listen to. With the smorgasboard of inputs on receivers today you can set up the receiver for anything you would like to listen only Once!!

After listening at various retailers, acoustics can definitely hinder or excel any product, I found I did not like the Center channel production. AS you can see from spec sheets freq. resp. is a bit shallower than the sats. @ 120Hz. Which for me created a spacial acoustic hole. I chose the SC-.5 center to keep that Klipsch Horn trademark sound w/o overpowering the rest of the system. Which in turn closed any gaps in sound while in the 5 channel mode.

Also, with hardwood floors, which had greatly impacted sound of the sats, a down-firiing Sub would have been muddy and resonant. I instead went with the Energy e:XL-S8. Read the reviews.

Current Audio:
Denon Avr-2800 (85x5, never used above 70%)
Klipsch Quints
Klipsch SC-.5 center
Energy e:xl-s8 Sub
Panasonic C-220 DVD (optical)
Monster connections
