Strength:

Excellent sound for both music and home theater. Small speaker size allows placement just about anywhere.

Weakness:

NONE

By far one of the best sounding set of speakers I have ever heard!! I used to have an entire Cervin Vega theater system, but that was only good for listening to music. I was missing some of the special effect sounds in some of the great movies that are out on DVD. I purchased the Polk Audio RM6600 for $599.99 and upgraded the sub to the PSW350 for the extra $100.00. WOW!! What a great choice. Even the Bose set that comes with the powered sub does not compare. Not even close. The PSW350 bass is incredible. This is the best set of speakers you can buy for home theater and music enjoyment. And for half the price of the Bose set with the powered sub, YOU CAN''T GO WRONG!!!

Strength:

Great sound, small size, nice base

Weakness:

1. Speaker mounting hardware 2. Odd wireing from receiver, to sub, then to sats.

Well on checking all of the review sites I decided to go with the RM6600/PSW350 combo. Originaly the only thing I realy needed my home theater to have was white sats. My wife insisted on this. I checked out the Bose, Boston, and Klipsh. I was astounded with the sound of the Polk. I didn''t realy know you you could get that good of sound from a sub/sat package. I have watched many movies and listened to CD''s all sound great. My system: Sony STR-DE975 Sony DVP-NS400 DVD Player Sony 5 Disc Changer Sony duel tape deck RCA 36in TV I am very happy I have found this site or I might have paied too much for a bose, etc.

Strength:

Build quality, imaging, width of soundstage

Weakness:

Mid-bass dropoff at about 120Hz to 150Hz

I auditioned many HT systems, including the Polk RM6600, on my Denon 3801 receiver, Denon 3700 DVD changer, and Monster M series cables and connects, in an accoustically "bright" (wood floors, high celings, lots of glass) 18'''' x 24'''' room. I found the RM6600 to be among the best, with imaging and soundstage better than competing Jamo and Paradigm systems. The Energy Take 5 and Acoustic Energy Ageis sytems were probably a little better than the RM6600 in resolution and coloration. Overall, the RM6600 did a credible job with home theater at a great price. My biggest complaint with the RM6600 was integrating the satellites with the sub (though it was damned near impossible with the Jamos). My Denon crosses over at 80Hz (the THX certified level), but the RM6600 satellites drop off at about 150Hz. I wound up with a "hole" from about 100Hz to 120Hz, no matter how I adjusted the sub. After lots of demos, it came down to two bookshelf systems: NHT SB2 versus Polk RT35i. Both offered the natural sound, ambiance and resolution that you can''''t get out of tiny satellite enclosures. The NHTs had wonderful imaging, accuracy, and precision, with a very cool, dry sound. The Polks weren''''t as technically correct, but were much more rich, warm, and integrated. In the end, I felt that the NHTs were too clinical and sterile sounding (and inefficient at just an 86db sensitivity, versus a 90db for the Polks), so I bought the Polk RT35i/PSW350/CS245i/RC60i setup. I recommend a demo of the RM6600 based on price and build quality, but I also suggest an audition of some bookshelf systems too. They''''re a little bigger, and a little more expensive (only a little), but they are much more musical, and offer a more natural and real-life sound reproduction. Happy shopping!

Strength:

Compact, puts out a lot of sound, seems to be well built

Weakness:

Sounds a bit bright

Nice compact speakers with good detailed sound. The sound makes them seem bigger than they are. They do sound bright though. Not sure whether this is the movie soundtracks, Onkyo receiver, Pioneer DVD player, or some combo. Or I may be jaded listening to Martin Logans for so long.

Anyway, they are good value, especially if space is a serious consideration (as it was for me).

Strength:

Sound quality is ssssswwwwwwweeeeettttt!

Weakness:

The wall mounts that come with it are pretty cheap. You have to purchase some real stands and wall mounts which are a decent amount extra

Wowsers! I've got these muthas hooked up to an Onkyo 777 and primarily use them for home theater. Incredible will take you to about 10% of how good they actually are. I downgraded the usual sub that come with the set from the PSW350 to the 250 because I've got a pretty small room. The smaller sub still knocks me out and the highs are flawless.

Strength:

Amazing Home Theatre reproduction for the $$$$, Size, Ability to take a beating and still sound good.

Weakness:

Subwoofer hum on Auto

I've had these speakers for over a month and I'm very impressed with them. The speakers have survived a couple knockdowns off their stands and an accidental receiver turn on with the volume at full for about 10 seconds. Initially the PSW 350 sub had to be cranked way up to get any base, however, I subsequently discoverd the problem was my year-old Pioneer 608 receiver which prodduces a very weak base signal and is way overrated on power. The sub also has a built in crossover which negates the receiver crossover, so you need to set your main speakers to large and run the leads to your sub. I just bought a Yamaha 5240 to try and bring the sub to life, and man, what a difference. The sub really rocks now. Tomorrow Never Dies' opening scene is awesome. I have a very large family room opening into a large kitchen, and the subwoofer can really rattle the pictures, plates, and anything else that's not tied down tight. Even my 18 and 20 year old sons are impressed with the base produced from the sub since coupling it with the new receiver. My only complaint on this system is when the sub is in Auto mode and left at 75% or more volume it has a continuous hum which is absent when the sub is on and no signal present. I believe an earlier poster mentioned this flaw. I called Polk and all they could tell me is that I had the sub turned up to high. (BS response if you ask me.) I highly recommend this system, but make sure you have a quality receiver.

Strength:

Everything so far...

Weakness:

None except maybe the brackets (big deal)

The other day I decided I was tired of having tons of space eaten up by my huge Infinity Studio monitor speakers (full set of 5.) I decided to evaluate some small speakers. I tried the Bose in store and was unimpressed. Then I decided to give the Polks a try since I have always liked their higher end stuff. So here's how it went...

Picked up the speakers at Circuit City for $650 (includes a free PSW250.) I can upgrade if for $100 to the PSW250 if I want. However, I won't because I already own an M&K MX200 (the best thing in my system.) I just let my Onkyo 777 do the crossing over for the satellites for now...

These things are great for the money. They seem well built, stylish to look at, and sound great. I have no complaints so far except the following...

Without using the Polk sub (which is a toy compared to my M&K), I have to cross over the satelites using my receiver. However, the receiver most likely crosses over the satelites at 80hz since it's THX. But, the frequency response on the satellites is >100hz. So that means I have a 20hz window that isn't getting covered except whatever rolloff occurs in each direction. But this is not a fault of the speakers really... I may be just hook up the Polk sub to augment my existing bass (and to get the crossover features.)

Anyone with the PSW250 think that might be a good idea? Let me know via email. This way I can augment my bass and fix the frequency response "hole" I have created.

Anyways, buy these speakers. For $650 they are a steal...

Strength:

- Overall build quality
- Compact size
- Satellites will accept banana clips

Weakness:

- Included wall mounts
- Sub will not accept banana clips

Debating speaker sound is often like debating a favorite color...everyone likes something different. What I can say about the Polks is I love them!

I have a pair of 10 year old Infinity towers that sound great, but there's no place in our great room for them. The wife agreed to a home theater system, but demanded small speakers. My quest began with the Bose, which I looked at for a number of years. I ruled them out when I learned they do not truly reproduce Dolby, DTS, etc., but put their own 'spin' on the sound.

I then focused on the Polks, who I knew from friends made good products. I then found the Energy Take5 and Encore to compare them to for a reference. The Take5 was of similar size, but the highs were too tinny for my ears. I ruled out the Encore due to its silver, industrial-style looks and larger footprint. Though I'm sure these appeal to some, they did not fit my decor.

All 4 satellites and center channel accept banana clips, but the 250 and 350 subs do not. The 450 and 650 do, so I'm not sure what Polk was thinking. The included speaker mounts are worthless, but I don't feel this is an issue as you will probably purchase stands or more configurable mounts (as I did). The SoundGear Satellite Series from Vantage Point work great with the Polks.

The first thing I noticed about the satellites was their weight (almost 5 lbs each) and how solid they were (no resonance). I opted initially for the 250 sub, on which I noted cosmetic damage after unpacking. I hooked it up for a few days before I could return it. I opted to upgrade to the 350, which made a significant difference. Bass notes were reproduced with much more clarity than with the 250, and I felt them deeper in my gut. I'd recommend upgrading to the 350, 450, or 650 in all but the smallest rooms.

I wired the system as recommended by Polk; front channels from the receiver into the sub, then from sub to the front speakers, front speakers set to large, subwoofer off. The system sounds great. I ducked a number of times during the beach landing in Saving Private Ryan, and had to turn down the volume during the T-Rex scene in Jurassic Park as plates started vibrating on my shelves. Audio CD playback is clear and powerful, but as another reviewer mentioned, these speakers are not designed for playing hard rock extremly loud. If that's your goal, stick with Pioneer or JVC and a Cerwin Vega sub...save the good stuff for later in your life ;-)

I purchased a dedicated sub cable, but have not yet hooked it up and tried the alternative setup. My receiver crosses over at 80Hz, so I probably won't have the mid-bass issues some have experienced.

I'd recommend this system to anyone who wants great home theater sound, good looks, and a compact format. You won't find better for under $1,000.

My audio system consists of the following:
- Onkyo TX-DX787 receiver
- Pioneer DV-F727 DVD player
- JVC HR-S4800 Super VHS VCR
- AR 12G speaker wire and AR and Monster interconnects

I ALMOST bought a Bose lifestyle system. Then a friend recommended that I listen to the polk audio speakers and then make a decision.

the polk audio system blew the bose away. The Polk RM6600 speakers and the PSW350 sub woofer are fantastic. We watched our first DVD last night. "long kiss goodnight". There is a scene with a helecopter over niagra falls. You could FEEL the helicopter blades, it's like we were actually there.

We played a Van Halen CD as well. you can turn up the volume to the point of ear pain without any discernable distortion. At low listening levels the sound was again crisp and clear.

We were a little scared to spec out all the components for our home theater system. it was really pretty easy after all. we chose a JVC 8000 receiver, the polk RM6600 speakers, and a JVC DVD/CD player. The whole package cost right at $1300. and we are 100% pleased.

I didn't know you could get such good sound from these little speakers.
