Strength:

Excellent for home Cinema, X-over, Responsive to even the smallest minute bass (and it doesn't over exagerrate it). Big a** bang for buck factor. Connectivity

Weakness:

Bulky, doubled harmonics at around 25hz, doesn't have an LFE input, just a left & right channel (so buy the the Y-adapter to get the full benefit of your LFE output on your receiver)

Well, I wasn't sure of what to expect from a 350 dollar sub, but I sure was surprised of the product. This sub boasted lots of sound, and it actually puts out strong all the way down to around 30hz, but it can actually put out all the way down to 25hz, where it doubles its harmonics (causes a 50hz sin wave also). This is still excellent performance for a home sub, you have to pay a lot more if you want a sub that can hit lower. I was also surprised at how tight the bass can actually be, knowing that most ported subwoofer applications tend to sound mudded up at higher volume, I haven't experienced that with this subwoofer. Its installed in the corner of a 20 x 20 foot room, but it still manages to rattle lots of lights and hung pictures at a not so loud volume. As for bang for buck factor, the only way you can beat this is if you can buy another "more expensive" sub at wholesale price, or on auction. Any person serious about large explosions and fantastic cinematic effects should have a sub that performs atleast like this, I think Cerwin Vega has set a benchmark that subs in this class can only hope to follow for now...

Strength:

hard hitting, loud, low (gets a lot of noise complaints, this could be good or bad?)

Weakness:

heavy (this is good that is keeps it firmly connected to the ground better but is heavy to move through a parking lot and then up to the 6th floor dorm)

this is a great sub. i use it primarily for musical uses, ie. dorm parties, and it cranks. i used to the have the jbl pb10 and pushing it to its max i still didnt get the bass i was looking for and it got distorted. this one easily handles my needs with room to spare. i have it on a carpet and put four screws in the bottom to use as spikes to keep it from moving along the floor. i also use this in a home theater setup and believe me it will recreate all the lows very well. gladiator being one of my favorite dvd's was the first dvd i put in and it was plenty powerful. i got this on sale for 50 bucks off the retail. i bought the 30 dollar service plan at bestbuy, so i can push this sub hard and if i ever have a problem with it i can get it replaced, but i dotn think i will need to it handles my music with ease.

Strength:

Sears matching the price of internet retailers

Weakness:

Sound

Well I bought this product based upon the RAVE reviews that it was recieving from this site. I didnt do much research on it, and ASSumed that since it was a VEGA it would be a good sounding product.

I bought the sub at Sears and bought the sub cable at Circuit City (Monster Bass 400 - 18 foot legnth) and the Y-adapter (Monster cable as well).

I got the sub home and unpacked it and connected the sub cable to my subwoofer preout on the Harmon Kardon AVR 85. Then I connected the two RCA ends to the Line IN on the back and plugged the sub in.

For the first night that I owned it I could get much of a bass response out of it. I rechecked my connections and everything seemed fine. I read help threads on many internet forums and I learned that I should set ALL of the speakers in my setup as SMALL and let the Cerwin do its job. I tried that earlier today and the bass came out of the sub. Problem is that it was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!

What are you people referring to when you say Rumbling rich lows and tight bass... This sub couldnt reproduce a nice sounding bass note when playing any RAP music. During movies on my digital satelite it introduced distortion into the sound. I had to have the gain turned all the way up to hear anything that resembled LOUD bass.

Taking it back tonight. The 15 inch woofer in my car sounds WAY better than this speaker did. Next time I will be sure to hear the sub first and not buy from Sears, its not exactly THE audio enthusiast's hideout...

Who knows maybe I got a defective one, but I can also vouch that the build construction is bad. The woofer feels like cheap paper and removing the driver reveals NO bass dampening material inside which could cut down on that excessive port noise.

Strength:

Great bass for the buck!

Weakness:

Controls on the back.

This is my first subwoofer, so I may not be the best critic. However, I scoured the web for about a month to find the best subwoofer for the money. I was willing to spend around $400.00. I read several articles and reviews, including audioreview.com, and I ended up with the LW-12.
I then searched the net for the best price. $269.00 was the best I found. I later visited the local REX store and found the same subwoofer for the same price, but no shipping charges! I got the sub home and hooked it up. (Don't forget the Y adapter if you use the subwoofer out on your receiver) It sounded ok, but not great. It was back to the net for advice. I found it at www.smr-home-theatre.org.
Scroll down to "Subwoofer placement and calibration". I followed the simple instructions and I'm glad I did. What a difference! This sub sounds great! I only use a little over a third of the volumn control for music, and slightly higher for DVD movies. It is a rather large sub, but from what I have read, the bigger the better. (opinions vary) I highly recommend this subwoofer to anyone looking in this price range. I'm sure there are better out there for more money, but I'm very pleased with this unit.

Strength:

Deep loud, clear bass

Weakness:

The auto on and off, it makes a noise evertime it goes on and off, and it goes off too soon.

I have in front 2 Bose 301 which produces a very good bass, but since I got the LW 12, my defenition of bass changed. I really can't pump it up that much because the up stairs neighbor already called the cpos once. But I can tell you that this monster can pump bass. Specially if you put the cross over on about 100 and play the twister movie. Great sub, great price.
