Strength:

Mucho Basso, clean, tight, musical, controllable, small

Weakness:

The structural integrity of my house

Definitive has done it again. The reviews are not wrong below! I bought this sub yesterday hoping that it would be what everyone said when I got it home. What I got was a $1200-sounding sub for $600! There is no better value in the sub market period.

325 watts, 15-inch driver in a wife-friendly sized box???? This is a no-brainer folks.

I got it mostly for HT movies, explosions, crashes, etc... but I was absolutley bolwn away by its musical ability. The 15TL is really deep and tight and will play at chest pounding levels without clipping. I was worried about it 'blending' with my front mains but with the x-over at 60hz and vol at 6, it sounds like one massive stage in my house.

I have two problems with this woofer.

1) I alreday broke a picture frame that I will have to go and replace tomorrow. It fell from the rear wall 22 feet from the sub. (Lobby shooting spree scene, The Matrix DVD)

2) Second problem, the new neighbors have already complaind (YEAH!!!! Thanks to The Haunting DVD... we're talking 20hz at insane volumes)

I can't say enough about it. I like this product so much I will be saving up for another 15TL or the 18TL for 13hz thunder!

This is used with
Sony 777ES
Sony S550D
Infinity Overture 3's and 2's and CC3

Strength:

Plenty of power/Goes deep/intergrates easily with speakers

Weakness:

Can be boomy in smaller size rooms

Christmas gift two years ago from my wife. Thank you honey. This sub is fantastic with music as well. Best placement for me is 3 1/2 inches out from the wall and about 16 inches from the corner wall. Still best to use a sound meter for precise setup. I Like the transmission design as I have owned speakers with this design before and found them very engaging. Somehow it does smooth out the bass notes but with plenty of punch. Only trouble I encountered was my fairley small room wont allow the volume to be turned up to even a quarter of the way up. Great subwoofer ,I would recomend this to anyone wanting good sound. Happy listening.

I replaced my Sumo sub with the PF 15TL, and it produces tighter base, and has a flatter, less distorted output than my Sumo. Truly impressive, gut-shaking bass all the way down to 20Hz (at least in my living room). I'd give it 5 stars, but it still can't compete with the servo-corrected subs for truly low distortion. Oh, what the heck; it gets the extra star just because of the price-erformance ratio it gets.
Buy one -- you won't be disappointed.

Tried out several other brands/models before trying this unit. By far exceeds the performance of the others. I highly reccommend (sp?). Both for Audio and for Home Theater, seems to be at home for both. Plus, I only paid $600 for it... can't beat it for the price.

Just heard this sub at the local dealer. What a disappointment. High distortion and poor output. I'll give the sub two stars just because the dealer is probably at fault for setup.

Unlike most out there, I was more interested in music than theater performance when choosing components in my system. The PF15TL was among the subs I auditioned. For HT, this sub is excellent, thunderous bass performance on all of the standard DVDs (Air Force One, The Fifth Element, T2, etc.). However, if you are like me, and listen to music more than half the time, forget it. The sub could not keep up with quick bass passages in the classical, rock, and jazz music tested. If you think this sub sounds good, save another $100 and go listen to the Paradigm PW-2200. If you listen to a lot of music, and aren't into the Mustang-Bass-Tube-Boom, wait six months, and save the money for a Servo-15 or FSW-xx. Eazy-E and Ice Cube fans should run to the store *immediately*.

Strength:

Unable to easily locate, relatively small for a 15" driver, no boom or mud! 500 watts of power rms. clean bass, no mud!

Weakness:

for the price, ZERO! Doesn't extend to 14hz like Def Tech states.

I purchased this sub after reading a number of reviews and some critical listening with both music and DVD's. I am still impressed with the ability to get this sub to blend so well with my Paradigm Studio 20's. I've never had a sub that would blend well and not be localized. There is none of the boomy and muddy character of my Paradigm PS1000's which isn't entirely bad for movies, but was almost unlistenable for music. I found that by using a mono MIT 2 bass interconect made a world of differnce but the PS1000 couldn't disappear like the PF15TL+. I'm using the low level input(LFE) for the Def Tech from my Yamaha RXV2095. The high levels inputs are nice 5 way binding posts. This sub sounds really good with DVD's and has good low end extension and power to spare. I believe Def Tech's measurments state a 14hz response. I can honestly say there is NO way this sub is flat to that level but does extend to the low 20's with authority. For my cd collection the Def Tech simply added the bottom end I was missing. This sub has been the biggest difference to my setup and I'm really pleased with it. I think that I've reached the point of diminishing returns for me in the bass dept. The sub has variable low,40-150 and high pass,40-150 as well as a variable phase control,0-180. There are low level in/outs and LFE and well as speaker level inputs/outputs. The sound quality is very good for the money IMHO. This sub can be hadd cheaper than the $699 list. I'm sure you could beat this sub if you built your own but that was more than I wanted to do currently. I hoghly recommend this subwoofer for both music and movies and the hookup options are well appointed. I've logged roughly 100 hours on the sub so far.

Strength:

Low end is superb, the amp within is powerful. None can match it for this price.

Weakness:

Like all Def Tech products, it has NONE!

For Home Theatre, this subwoofer is astounding! The amp inside is powerful as hell. I like my bass clean and deep. And I can't tell you how amazing this sub really is. It's easily worth 2 times as much as I paid.

I tried it for music a few times and it is also superb for that. You people that use a sub for everyday music listening will be more then pleased.

The amount of hookup possibilities makes this sub fit into ANY system, and thats a big plus for todays home theatres.
Did I mention how this sub is worth 2 to 3 times what I paid for it?!?!

Get one ASAP my audiophile friends, and while your at it, pick up some Def Tech towers that will nicely compliment your new kick ass subwoofer!

Strength:

Deep Bass! Tight, smooth, musical for a 15"

Weakness:

none that I really can perceive- although its electronic protection circuitry cuts in a lot sooner at high output than I would like

Just buy this SUB! Contrary to some of the reviews you will read here, this sub is very, very musical (check out the Home Theater Magazine review of the 325 watt version) and has a tight punch. And it goes really, really low! I have owned subs that did a decent job, but if you want to feel your couch move off of its foundation during an excursion in your home theater- this is the Sub for you. And once again, it won't hurt your ears during music playback. One last thing- be sure to use a good Sub cable for your connection- it really makes a difference! Below is my system-

Pioneer Elite VSX-33TX THX-select Receiver
Energy Take 5 speaker package
Def Tech PF15tl+ Sub
RCA DVD player
Panasonic LaserDisc player
Samsung LCD 40" widescreen Television
Def Tech BP 6B Bi-polar towers ( for music listening)
