I have been using this sub for a week now and it is absolutely great..I tried an M&K 12 Acoustic suspention model and it was terrible...This sub replaces an ARS500 which did a nice job but did not have the bas extention this one does..This sub Blends very well with my ARP315ho which both have powered 15" Acoustic suspension drivers poward by a sunfire 500 watt amp in each tower..The DEF15tl works wonders here filling out the system on music and is a killer on home Theatre movies...I am very pleased.. |

This is the second 15TL I've purchased (although I no longer have the first) and needless to say... it's awesome. In a nutshell, I did quite a bit of comparison shopping when I bought the first one (Velodyne, Paradigm, Cerwin Vega, Klipch and Sunfire) and none of them, I repeat, none of them held up to the 15TL in not only sound (Music AND Movies) but price as well. Coupled with the review from Home Theater magazine (with one of the highest point ratings I've seen of ANY componenet they've tested) and it ended up being "NO CONTEST" in which sub I purchased. When it came time to replace the first one (divorce) I didn't even have to think twice about which one to get. This is the most awesome Sub I've ever heard... period. Also, I have other DefTechs with which the 15TL blends seemlessly (BP10's and the CLR1000... and soon in the rear, too). Definitive I think is one of the premier speaker manufacturers in the world. It's all about the sound and I've heard none better! |

Strength:
My God! What have I been missing?
Weakness:
Breaks windows, upsets the dog and cats. Makes me scared to turn it up. I'm afraid to turn this thing up. It rocks the foundation of the house. The windows rattle. It literally moved a glass off the top shelf in the kitchen and made it crash to the floor this Thanksgiving when I was showing a house full of people. the bass goes to the bone. I'm using a Denon 1801 as an amp and Pro100's as main and surrounds. It feels just like an earthquake. The dog gets very upset and the cats scatter. I've tested it down to 14 Hz. I'll never turn this thing all the way up. There would be too much damage inflicted. Similar Products Used: Bose AM-7 (I know now!), Infinity |

Strength:
Outstanding altra low bass!
Weakness:
NONE! I bought this sub to pull .1 LFE duty for my Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 400 system as the Pro Towers could not handle the job with high enough SPL. This sub did just what the Doctor ordered! Use a sound meter, a good cable, good placement. Well recently I boxed up my Pro Cinema 400 system as I am upgrading to BP 2002TL front and back with a C/L/R 2002 for center keeping the PF 15TL for LFE. Well I am waiting for a bonus to hit the bank, and until it does I am using my smaller systems speakers (Energy EXL 15s front and back). Well some thing that ways unexpected happened, this PF 15TL is very musical for a 15" sub. The Energys have 5 1/2 mid woofers and they blend wonderfuly! The only thing better then this sub would be TWO PF 15TLs! My RCA pre out plactic center is loose and rattles so I put a dummy plug in and that fixed that. Awsome Sub, buy one you wont be sorry! Strength:
Home Theater capabilities
Weakness:
Not very musical Keep in mind that this review is based on my comparison with the NHT SW2PI. The PF15TL Plus is an incredible home theater subwoofer. Very loud and deep. This sub gets 5 stars for its home theater capability. The NHT SW2PI lacks the overall bass impact and depth that the PF15TL Plus posess. The NHT's 120 watt amplifier and 10 inch woofer becomes inadequate for the low frequency requirements of home theater. Listening to music is another story. The PF15TL Plus doesn't come close to the NHT. The NHT is much more suited for listening to music. The NHT integrates with the main speakers very well and is obviously faster than the Def Tech which is essential in a subwoofer when listening to music. The Def Tech is a little 'rumbly' and slow on music. The Def Tech also doesn't integrate with the main speakers as well as the NHT. I give the Def Tech 3 stars for musicality. Clean, tight bass. Best when set for 90k below.
Weakness:
minor....power led should be on the front. This was quite a refreshing purchase after years of using Similar Products Used: several cheap passive units |

I don't understand a low rating of 1 from someone who has not even listened to it. I also find that stores are not the proper place to give a good evaluation (there are so many factors that could lead to bad performance like bad crossover adjustement, bad phase adjustement, bad interconnects,...). |

Strength:
Powerful, detailed, beautiful, all the features you could want and at a fantastic price.
Weakness:
Absolutely none All I can say is wow! This is one fantastic sub. I disagree with anyone who says it doesn't work well with music. It's performance is outstanding with everything I've trown at it, I couldn't be happier. I've been into audio and A/V for over 25 years and have owned allot of equipment. There are only a few pieces I thought they were an absolute steal and this is one of them. I can't give this sub a high enough recommendation. If you need a sub and can spend $600-$700, get this one, you won't be sorry. Similar Products Used: I auditioned just about every sub on the market that I could get for less than a grand. |

Strength:
Excellent music and HT subwoofer. Blends very well with my speakers
Weakness:
Have not noticed any I spent $500 for this sub two years ago and never regreted spending the money for it. Of all the subs I have owned (velodyne, polk, infinity, and JBL)and other subs I've auditioned, this sub is one of the best subs out there. There are other good subs out in the market today but you must spend twice as much or maybe even more to have the same sound quality as this sub. I am very disappointed to read about the few folks who complained about distortion they heard when they auditioned this sub. I am not disappointed because of the distortion they heard, I am disappointed because they were not sure if it was due to set-up error, damaged speaker, or if it was truly a bad sub. In order to give an objective review, a reviewer must thoroughly inspect the product being reviewed, make sure the connection is correct, perform the test, then give the review. My question for these folks is, when buying a car, you would not compare and make your decision on which car is faster based on drive tests you performed on a corvette with a brand new corvette engine against a porsche with a yugo engine would you? Well, why would you make your decision on a sub you were not even sure if it was hooked up properly or damaged? The sad part is, these folks did not hear how good this def tech sub truly was. My suggestion, when auditioning a sub, or any audio equipment for that matter, listen to them at more than one audio retailer because they all have different set ups. One may sound good on one set up but may not sound as good on other set ups. Or one retailer knew what it was doing while the other did not. You can even take them home and try them in your own set up. Many retailers let you take them home for 30 day trial period. The bottom line, this sub kicks butt for the price I paid. Strength:
Power and great bass
Weakness:
None, except that the first one went crazy a week or two after I bought it and worked fine ever since. This sub sounds great on just about anything and you can FEEL it. The dinosaurs come to life in jurassic park, and in music it brings out all the bass in anything. You won't be dissapointed at all with this. It kicks major ass and you will think that to, just try it out. |
