Strength:

Clear, powerful and tight bass

Weakness:

None so far

About a week ago, I went to my local United Audio Center intent on purchasing a Definitive Tech PF15TL sub. Unfortunately, the salesman advised that Definitive dropped the larger subs from their product lineup, apparently because their powered towers already come with large, built in subs, and few customers felt the need for an additional sub. They now offer the ProSub 200, which is a 12", 250 watt powered sub with a very small footprint. I purchased this model and am very pleased with the quality of the bass. I listened to a 15" Velodyne costing over $1000 that sat next to the Definitive, and noted that the Velodyne had more output, but it sounded muddy. When the Definitive was switched on, the output dropped slightly but the bass was very tight and well defined. I don't mean to imply that there was any lack of low end. The ProSub 200 could literally be felt in the gut, and the sound quality made me buy it on the spot. I'm happy to report that when I hooked it up to my system, the results were outstanding! While watching the DVD of "Das Boot", the German submarine movie, I must have jumped off the couch 20 times when the Allied destroyer dropped depth charges above the submarine. The explosions could be felt as well as heard, as the air in the room must have been sucked in and out of the subwoofer. This was the first time that I really felt like I was part of the movie, enveloped in sound, and not just a spectator. Of course, after that experience, I have to watch all of my DVD's all over again. You should hear the 15" cannons in "The Last of the Mohicans". WOW!
I can say nothing negative about Definitive's ProSub 200, which I have placed about 4" away from a wall. I understand that placement in a corner would provide even more output, but that just gives me something more to look forward to if I rearrange the room. Five stars, please!

Strength:

VERY Tight/Quick Bass, a decent musical sub with absolutely no distortion at any volume level.

Weakness:

None so far

I have auditioned a lot of subs in a similar price range from the likes of Velodyne, Monitor Audio (about $250 more) and Tannoy. Out of all I have to say I am extremely happy (and amazed) with the performance of the DEF TECH sub. The one weakness between all of the ones mentioned above is the additional 150Watts of power you get with the DEF TECH. While I liked most of these for music performance, I felt they all lacked the punch needed when used for HT. That’s where the 250W amp comes ALIVE. This is 250W RMS (approx 600W peak…..does not say anywhere what the peak is but its power rating is 700W so I am assuming you can get 600W).

I recently rented “Gone in 60 seconds” and I must say that the 67 Shelby Mustang 500 “came alive” in the room without any lagging-extra bass once the action is over. I had the volume set at half way (with 0 amplification from my amp Denon AVR3801) and that was enough to shake the 15x20 family room. I haven’t needed to turn it up any higher (for fear of stuff falling from the mantel) but did a couple of times and it handle it beautifully. (of course I removed the stuff from the mantel first :)

I originally went in with the idea that I needed a 12” sub for my room but found that this was sufficient (and the salesman assumed me that if I needed something bigger, I could trade up). Also the 12” DEF TECH is a bit muddy on music and hence I decided it won’t hurt to try the 10”. All in all a great sub for the price.

Strength:

Very Powerful for a small box. Brings out the lowest rumbles . Very nice Bass. Will move your walls and rattle your windows and that's with volume turned up only 1/4 of the way up. I have Def Pro monitor 100's, with a Sony 43" and Yamaha RXV-596 AV,AMPEX DVD. The system is awsome. Watching Private Ryan and hearing the bullits fly across the room was awsome. I highly recommend this Home Theater System. According to the manufacturer the speakers need a 20-40 hours breaking in period. I have noticed that the sound gets better with each use.

Weakness:

None At this Time

Buy it you will not regret it..........

Strength:

Great, deep, powerful, filling, gut wrenching bass. Price.

Weakness:

No autopower on the LFE.

Wow!!!!!

I have a fairly small room (14'x14'x9') that allows this sub to ROCK! Especially the chain gun scene in the Matrix! And it's turned down to less than 1/4!

Used a sub-sonic special effect CD when I went sub shopping and the only other sub able to handle the 18-25hz tone without "flapping" was a REL Stadium III.

I'm still on the fence w.r.t. this speaker's musicality, however, for HT, this is the way to go.

SMALL SIZE, AND GOOD SOUND

Weakness:

SLOW AUTO-ON

THIS IS THE 125 WATT PRO-SUB 100. AT FIRST I HAD IT IN THE WRONG SPOT SO IT DID'NT SOUND AS DEEP,LATER WITH BETTER PLACEMENT THE RUMBLE WAS AMAZING TO ME. I REALLY AM NOT AN EXPERT BUT I WAS REALLY SURPRIZED AT HOW LOW THE NOTES IN MOVIES AND MUSIC REALLY ARE. FOR IT'S SIZE IT REALLY DELIVERS. THE ADJUSTMENT CONTROLS ON BACK ARE NICE TOO.
IT SOUNDS VERY SMOOTH WITH ITS BASS NOTES,VERY PRECISE
IT MAKES ME THINK THATS HOW THEY REALLY SHOULD SOUND. I HAVE HAD IT A YEAR NOW AND WITH IT'S BREAK-IN IT'S SOUNDS EVEN SMOOTHER. IT WAS $450.00 BUT WORTH IT IN THIS CASE.
IT'S JOINED WITH JBL HLS 610'S THEY GO TOGETHET GREAT.
HIGHLY RECOMENDED.

Strength:

Very tight, most musical sub ive heard ever. NEVER DISTORTS.

Weakness:

port noise on deep bass.

this sub's greatest feature is the quality of bass. some salespeople tell you subs are all the same for the most part (bass is... bass one guy told me)This is so far from the truth.

the musicality of the bass is amazing, bass drums sound tight and never lag behind. Low continous bass is verry smooth and not boomy EVER! and this baby never distorted for me once NEVER.. at full volume with the deepest bass, it takes it all with ease. with 250watts it can do it.

It may not be as loud as a velodyne HGS or paradigms pw-2200 but those subs are in another catagory altogether. but it will do any volumes I want to listen at. and dispite what people say about this sub... it will shake and rattle things on other floors of your house!

btw i like my music loud and with bass thats very clean, and this sub can do what i need easily.

cant give it 5s though for value. It is worth the money but 5s are supposed to be for things with WAY ABOVE average perfomance to price comparisons although its value is still worth a 4!.

I just got the ProSub two days ago and I love it! It's hard to believe that so much bass is coming out of such a small sub. It shakes your insides! To get the explosive bass you need to put it in a corner though. There may be better subs out there, but I was pressed for money and space. I wanted some huge monster speakers, but I will be going to college soon and want to take my home theater system with me, so I am buying to Definitive Pro Cinema 200 system. It wouldn't be practical to put 5 huge behemoths in a tiny dorm room. My friend has the whole system, and it sounds awesome. The dramatic bass is the best part. That's why I bought the sub first.

Strength:

Clean, Tight Bass

Weakness:

None that I know of yet.

This little sub puts out great sound. It never seems to get muddy or distort. About the only downside that I can see with this sub is that your neighbors will not be pleased. It can really shake and rattle things if turned up. Watching Movies and Listening to Music isn't just an audible sensation anymore, It's a physical one- You can feel the bass hit ya right in the chest.

Strength:

Plenty of tuneful bass for home theater.

Weakness:

None at this price point

I picked up the ProSub 100 for my small second A/V setup.
I needed a real cheap sub (but quality) for this system and I called around to local audio/video retailers. One had this sub as a demo in white and I brought it home. It sounds just fine with the Yamaha 5150 providing signal to it.

This sub is NOT in the same class, or solar system as the Velodyne HGS-12 I have in my 2 channel rig. But the 100 is just fine for my application in a relatively inexpensive home theater system. I'm happy.

The Velodyne HG-12 is $1999.00.
The ProSub 100 in white: $279.00
