Strength:
Plays deep, tight, accurate bass at loud levels.
Weakness:
Absolutely none! This subwoofer rocks!! There''''s nothing else I could add that the other reviewers have said. You get deep, tight, accurate bass from this baby. Add this sub to your system and watch "The Haunting" and you''''ll experience low frequency reproduction like you''''ve never heard before. This sub has gone down to 18hz @ 84dB. This 10" sub outperforms 12", 15" subs that cost 3times more. For music or for home theater, this is a "must have". Similar Products Used: Yamaha, JBL, Velodyne, NHT |

Strength:
Easy to buy & test (30 day trial), the sound is unreal - 20 feet down my driveway I though I heard thunder ... it was Jurassic Park III. Music is even better
Weakness:
Tuning instructions are a little confusing and redundant. For any of you evaluating the VTF-2, I can tell you that I recently bought one and I''m AMAZED with it. Here is some info for you to consider: First of all - Sasha at Blue Whale was quite communicative about order status, etc - a pleasure to deal with. Second - my system is all new - Marantz 6200 stereo receiver, Sony DV 700P progressive scan DVD, all B&W speakers - DM603 S2 floorstanding speakers up front, a CC6 center, DM 602S2 rears on short stands, and a Hitachi 53" Ultravision widescreen HDTV. The room is over 15*18 - ceramic tile floors and 9 foot ceilings. The local sound company that wired the room for me left a small Sony sub as a loaner - it was WAY inadequate. Next they left a Jamo w/a 10" speaker - it was just OK for movies, but nowhere near big enough for music. I sent it back, did some research, found the HSU and rolled the dice. JACKPOT! I can tell you - this sub ROCKS - although the tuning and placement instructions could DEFINITELY be more clear (I''m no sound engineer) the bassy reference CD''s opening Fuge made me feel like the pipe organ was in the room - it vibrates the listenener 12 - 15 feet away! The first DVD we watched didn''t really demonstrate it''s range - lots of conversation. But I rented Jurassic Park III for my kids and the sub absolutely WOWED (and scared) everyone. It has the power to rattle your windows and move pictures that are hung on the wall in adjacent rooms without that awful boominess so prevalent in lesser subs. I''m still figuring out the tuning and placement for the room, but I can tell you this - DO NOT be afraid to order this VTF-2 - you WILL NOT be disappointed! By the way - I need to plug this venue too - the posts in here and copious research helped me pick out a killer system! Thanks! |

Reads I want first to apologize for any grammar error you may find on my part since English is not my native language. This is a review from an Audiophile perspective, I have red all the reviews below prior to purchasing that sub, and I had very great hopes for it. For those who have no patient to read it all or are looking for Home theater application only I will say short and clear GO FOR IT!!! and don''t read on. For those who are looking for more detail review read on.. Construction: Very well and solid build, the back panel is nicely laid out and easy to set up. A little unpleasant surprise where the speakers binding posts that were different from the picture I have seen on the web, they where clip-on versus banana plugs that the web site shown. The two large ports are something to concern about if you have a small animal or small kids, the toddlers might treat it as a "Treasure Box" plaything, however there are tubes inside of the ports so it can''t actually drop something inside the enclosure. The 10" driver have a foam surrounding which are not my favorite to say the list since they get dry an fall apart much sooner then rubber surround. The outside Finnish is very odd and it feels very rough like a stone, it is so rough that you can use it to sharpen you kitchen knives (just kidding) My Score 4.5 Appearance: Well, this is probably will be very individually taste as "Eye of the beholder" kind of thing, myself I thought it looks OK, its not going to win any beauty contest however. Since you are going to tuck-it-in somewhere, out of site it most likely will not be an issue anyway. My Score 4 Home entertainment performance I have only one word for it, remarkable! it will rumble even a fairly large room like mine, if you are worried about the Amplifier low amp - DONT! For the money it a steal and I highly recommended it. My Score 5 Music Performance I A-B both subs with an A/B audio selector switch and I kept both subs at the same dB level output and same crossover setting (50HZ) and here are my result: This is were a ported sub show it''s weaknesses. I own a Velodyne FSX-12 subwoofer (Sealed Sub) for about 2 years now and I always liked it''s music performance; it''s mate perfectly with my Magnepan planner speakers which are very difficult to mate with because of their super fast bass output; In home theater however the |

Sound per dollar ratio
Weakness:
The hum thing some people experience. They can be hard to find as the demand is high. Ok, I don''t like selecting "audiophile" or "auio enthusiast" because I think I''m a little of both. This sub is extremly clean sounding, much more flexible for integration into your room than other subs, offers a completely different sonic presentation for HT or music with a simple change of a switch and was clearly more musical than any of the other subs we tried. The hum thing is odd, and keep in mind the adapter some people use is actually correcting the AC wiring in their house, not a fault with the sub. Don''t let this issue bother you. It is easily corrected and the sub is worth every penny you spend discounted or not. We use the VTF-2 with a pair of Magnepan MMGs and they blend better than anything else we have tried. Maggie users should audition this sub! It has a 30Hz crossover point and can be adjusted such that it is not possible for it to harm that tight clean mid bass. We found it actually enhanced it. Great for both home theater and music. In our case we demanded music performance first and HT second. The VTF-2 offers performance for both. Don''t wait, try it, you will like it. Strength:
Solid as a rock, very musical sound.
Weakness:
The finish, but I am getting used to it! Gee Whizzzzzzz! This is one nice sounding sub. It is quite musical in its reproduciton. Deep bass guitar or "bass fiddle" sounds great. Deeper drum sounds are quite pleasing. Other deep synth sounds fantastic also. Also pumps out great sounds from dvd''s. The low rumble in "The Haunting" is no problem for this sub. This is a great buy at a great price. I also like being able to tune the ports for music or movies. Similar Products Used: AuduoSource SW Two (ugh!) |

Strength:
Cleaner than anything in its price range. Very, very loud and very, very clean. I haven''t run into anything that has caused any port distortion. It sounds great with both music and movis/television. Rocks the entire house, but doesn''t shake it apart... it''s not rude, just deep, big and clean. I defy anyone to find a better sub in this price range or anywhere up to $1k.
Weakness:
It''s a wee bit large, but that''s ok. Not a big deal. There was no 2002 option for the model year, so I had to put 2001. It''s a brand new VTF2 and I had to wait about three weeks for it. It was worth the wait. I ordered it from nax.com, but it was sent from Hsu. Strange because it was $50 cheaper than calling Hsu directly and had free shipping. That saved about $100. It did hum, but $2 later at Radio Shack for plug converters (just like the instructions say) took care of that. Very easy setup. My front speakers are B&W 603 S2''s, my rear speakers are 602 S2''s and my center channel is an LCR6 S2. I''d like to try the DS6 for surround, but what I have works very, very well. It will take a little tweaking, but I can see the VTF2 already complements these very well. |

Weakness:
Difficulties with XO/internal amp Powerful deep bass. Very attractive price - Let''s face it: most good subs cost double the price of the HSU - And this is a good sounding sub! It''s Good for HT, can live with it for music. Does not integrate with the Maggies as well as I would like. However, my VTF-2 broke, something with the XO/internal amp. Bad luck? I read here and there (also in reviews below) that this happens more often. If I could do it again, I would save up for a more reliable brand. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Tight, solid, fast, deep, loud bass. Best value in A/V. Not too terribly large.
Weakness:
Amp kicks on too hard too late. Nothing to say that hasn''t already been said. I haven''t found anything to throw at this sub that it can''t handle without even hinting that it''s about to give in. Somehow, this sub will rattle your neighbor''s windows, but it can also hit harder and faster than anything less than $1000.00 should. Internal amp could be better about "popping" on and off. If you can find anything that compares to this for the price pinch yourself, because you must be dreaming. |

Strength:
Amazing CLEAR output! A True Sub!
Weakness:
NONE! WOW! That''s about all I can say! I''ve been an audio enthusiast most of my life. In that time I''ve come accross many good deals and a couple of bad ones. The VTF-2 is easly the best deal I''ve ever got. I''ve owned a few HT subs including Velodyne CT100, CT120 and Def Tech. Prosub100TL, and they are all a complete joke compared to the VTF-2. I just sold the Prosub 100TL (also a 10" cone)because though it did great when I had a small 12 by 13 by 8 room, when I got into a house with vaulted ceilings and about 25'' by 28'' (the living room opens into the kitchen, dining rm etc.)it could''t come close to getting the job done. Enter the VTF-2, I actually was considering waiting on the VTF-3 coming out and even talked via email with Mr. Hsu. he thought the VTF-3 definetly would do the job but din''t know about the VTF-2. I''m here to tell you with the sub positioned directly behind the sweet spot of my couch this sub shook pictures in my hallway (which is not even connected to any of my living room walls) when wathing Air Force One yesterday. Did I mention I have concrete floors, oh my God what a sub! I''m sure the VTF-3 will do even a better job but it would be more than I need! After reading Richard Hardesty''s special subwoofer reviews in WideScreen mag. several times I chose the VTF-2 over other more expensive models and I''m glad I did. Placed behind me it even does a great job on music complementing my PSB 4T''s and Pinnacle Babyboomer subs up front nicely. My brother owns a Sunfire True Sub MKII, and I honestly think this sub sounds better. It may not have as much output, but it has clearer output at the levels you need even for a large rooms. THE BEST SUB FOR THE MONEY HANDS DOWN! I thought it was going to be good because of all of the reviews, but I had no Idea it would be this good! You can adjust everything! Not too big, not too heavy. If the need arises, I could blow out my windows w/ this. (Not joking)
Weakness:
None Like many others, I bought this unit on the advice/reviews of submitters to this site. How thankful can one person be? I never imagined I could get something of this caliber for so little a price. This sub needs no audition. Buy one, you''ll love it. End of discussion. Similar Products Used: Who cares?
