well I am starting to see a familiar problem, I love JBL, don't get me wrong but what the crap went wrong with this sub, I had mine for about 2 years and one day it had no power, so I replaced the blown fuse, and the same thing happend, what a sham, me and my other 2 friends all bought the same sub, from the same place, mine was the first to go, now they are noticing problems and are just waiting to see that it has no power, I didn't pay this much money to have a sub for 2 years and then go buy a new one, and of course Jbl doesn't cover anything after 1 year, dissapointed very dissapointed!!! |

Strength:
Very strong bass, blends well with movies and music, not too boomy
Weakness:
Amp failure rate. Will not last more than a year or two (if you are lucky). Power/standby light does not work - admitted defect by JBL (see FAQ's on their website) Mine held up about 2 years which seems to be longer than most of the prior posts. I was pleased with it while it worked, currently the amp module has been sent off for repair after which I will sell it and buy a real (non JBL) sub. It died while it was in standby mode, it crackled loudly for a few seconds and then 'pop'! it was dead. I can't even be sure that it was going into standby mode since the indicator light did not work. I suspect that it wasn't due to the fact that the amp section of the box was always warm. I like JBL products, but I don't think they have enough experience in building subs. Do not buy this model. I think the new model is starting to have the same type of problems too. In a nutshell - very poor design and reliability of the amp. Similar Products Used: none (yet) |

Strength:
Great Bass for movies!
Weakness:
The pesky 100db pounding, coming from the speaker, at 300AM when the amp fails! I got a good price when I bought the subwoofer. For movies it is EXCELLENT!! When playing rock music a nice set of large 3 way speakers just sound cleaner and have better bass. |

Strength:
Power,front grill(I have kids)
Weakness:
crossover response, slew rate,12"sloppy(boom,little PUNCH) lots of power, huge, and loud.12" needs faster amp to drive it.crossover does nothing between 60 and 90 Hz.there is humming from the amp,but I must say all the Infinity subs I've heard are worse. The 10" has more punch and is fater ,but underpowered.I am a JBL fan and have always stood by them.I will say though that this model could use work.I have used the 2002 and that is downfiring instead of my front firing beast. This has solved some of the phase problems I have encountered.I have had no mechanical or electrical problems to date. Those of you who have blown speakers or amps perhaps ther could be some "OE" going on.I will not drive my equipment to 100% because I want my equipment and especially my ears to last. For those of you willing to put any equipment under maximum usage ,you may be disappointed.I have learned from eleven years of live sound that all equipment has a breaking point, please use tender loving care. This box is for entry level"audio guys",not audiophiles. Stops working WAYYYYY to soon As with others in the same situation. Less than a year old and it stops working, no power. Opened it up and found the fuse blown...replaced it and it started humming then blew fuse again. Still need to follow up and check capacitors and other advice on this post. |

Reliability, Durability, Quality Do not buy this sub... I paid $350, which made it about the most expensive sub around at the time. It was also the most highly touted, so I assumed it would be worth the extra money. Initially it worked great, the sound quality was good and it worked really well with 5.1 audio. However, I did not have it for much more than a year before I began having problems with it. My first problem was, out of the blue, it just quit working. I checked the fuse, and found that it was blown. I tried replacing it, only to have it immediately blow out fuses as soon as it was turned on. It only came with a 1 year warranty, and I was past it by about a week. JBL refused to honor it, acknowledging that it didn't matter that it was only 6 days past. I ended up taking it to the nearest "authorized JBL service center" anyway and had it fixed. Luckily the guy didn't check the date on my receipt and did not charge me for repairs. The sub worked great for about 4-5 months but then started to have a whole new problem. Within 15 minutes of being turned on, it makes a horrible popping noise about every 2 minutes. Then, if left on, it will eventually begin making this continuous shrill noise generated from the built in amp, which can only be silenced by unplugging it. Now the warranty is expired by almost 8 months, and it will cost me almost as much as a new sub to have it repaired elsewhere. Once I began to have problems with it, I began looking around use-nets and news groups, only to find that a TON of other people have had the exact same problems with theirs. If you are looking to spend a lot of your hard earned money on an expensive piece of crap that will have the performance capacity of a block of wood after only one friggen year, then this is the sub for you. Otherwise, I would suggest you buy something else. Similar Products Used: N/A |
