Strength:

It was easy to operate and the auto on always worked well. It blended pretty well with my NHT SuperZeros, and later on, my NHT SuperOnes for music at low/medium volume.

Weakness:

LOW output, extremely sensitive to placement, and I think I blew it from constantly running it with the gain at maximum just so I could hear it.

I realize that I didn't pay much for this sub, and its not very big, but it really really has some genuine flaws. It sounds good for music at low to medium volume, but for home theater it really is lacking. I thought this sub was OK until I replaced it with a Velodyne sub (granted its bigger, and has slightly more power). Well, now I know what a subwoofer is supposed to sound like. There's something wrong when I have to turn my recievers subwoofer output to +10 db and then turn the gain on the sub all the way up just to feel like I have a sub. I eventually damaged the sub from having to put so much gain into it. I'm kind of glad I did, because I probably wouldn't have replaced it had it not began to vibrate so erratically. And yes, I tried to move it around. Its been in three different homes, and never sounded great. I will say this....it sounds very good with music. It blended well with my NHT SuperZeros and then my SuperOnes. But for home theater, you should find something bigger with more output. I found a replacement used for not much more money, but tons more performance.

Strength:

Has plenty of Deep Tight Bass. Auto On always works. Quality Workmanship. Quality Controls and Connections.

Weakness:

None that I am aware of.

After reading all the reviews on this web site and going to the local Best Buys and Bryn Mawr Stereo and hearing the different subs in action, I decided to buy this sub at Audio Jam. I got the sub for $250. as the store was going to Automobile Installations almost exclusively and was letting their in store stock go at a reduced price.
I brought the sub home and purchased an 8 meter Monster Sub-woofer cable and tried the sub at various listening locations around the room. Again, the advice of others on this site proved invaluable. Placement of the sub and using Monster Cable does make a difference. I placed the sub in a corner and set up the volume and crossover and I am exteremely pleased with this addition to my system. What a difference this has made to watching Home Theater. Rent U-571 on DVD for an unbelieveable home theater experience. And by the way, my listening room is 14X20 and this subwoofer provides enough Bass shake the walls and floors. I would have no problem buying another Klipsch product. And I believe the KSW-10 is Rock Solid.

Strength:

Very Smooth amplified bass. Great Design Decor

Weakness:

Delicate on Fuse Life (Sometimes)

If you are looking for a Subwoofer to give you great and sorround BASS, you have come to the right Subwoofer. IF you want something small for your Apartment and you want to have everyone on there toes in the Cinema aspect, this is one of the best out there on the market. I use a HARMAN KARDON AVR510 model receiver and I can only say that it gives this Subwoofer life !!!. I am not disappointed not one bit. IT is great with DTS and it knows when to pick up bass trembling sounds quite accurately, I can rely on this one for my money. GO KLIPSCH !!! YEAH BABY YEAH (Austin Powers).

I bought the KSW 10 based on other reviews and some research based on competitive models. As yet I have not been dissapointed with this Sub. Vanns.com had the best deal I could find on the net. For the size and price of the Sub I can't imagine needing any thing else for the average living room. It does a great job of augmenting my JBL Hls620's. This is a really nice unit. Good Job Klipsch

Tight bass

I purchased the entire Klipsch Series sf-1,ss-1, sc-1
and calibrated the system (along with my Outlaw receiver) with my AVIA DVD.

The KSW-10 is a fine subwoofer! Perfectly matched with my Klipsch Speakers, it provides the bass that I am looking for.

If you want earth shaking, pants moving, thunderous bass then maybe this is not for you...however, for a 10" driver, it works very well in a small room setting (15 x 15).

The bass comes out clean and tight and does make its presence shown..

Adjusting the bass is quite a task...I assume it's the same for any subwoofer...Placement, crossover, and volume settings do make a huge difference on home theater viewing and listening.

I put my sub at 180 phase setting...volume dial to 9 and set all my speakers to small...the crossover point (set by my receiver)works well at 60hz. I simply connect a Monster Subwoofer Cable to my LFE input alone....This works great!

When performing a calibration test on crossover frequency, the transition from speakers to sub was very smooth.

I think this sub deserves an 8 out 10 for performance.

I am very satisfied with my klipschs'...Highly recommended

Strength:

Reght size,Right price, good preformance

Weakness:

Some distortion with high volume

This is the finishing touch to my surround sound system.
Added the deep end action sound I had been missing on DVD's. It looks and works great. Using it with a Sony ES333. I have to keep it turned down as it will over power the rest of the sound. Make sure that you can adjust the subwoofer volume with your remote through your receiver. I find that I am adjusting the volume during movies and when listening to cd's. If you can't adjust the volume through your receivier you have to have the sub in an area it is easly accessablet and still have it sound good. That could be a problem.
I believe this is a quality speaker at a great price.

Not enough bass

My lil 50-watt 8inch Infinity BU-1 sub blew this one away in a comparison test using an explosion sequence from the U571 DVD. So I ran out and purchased the KSW-12. The KSW-12 sub packs the bass I was looking for, with a good sound.

Strength:

Small size, good for effects

Weakness:

Not the most musical unit in the world.

Original bought for use with the Klipsch Quintet series and performed very well with these. I then upgraded the fronts to KSF 3.1's and the unit still held its own.

Recently I have acquired a pair of Heresey 11's. The sub is now off. This may be due to my return to the world of stereo from a 2 year flirtation with surround sound.

Overall I have found that the unit is great when it comes to volcanos exploding (Dante's Peak), mortars (Saving Private Ryan), and Meteor's hitting the Earth (Armageddon) but not so hot when it comes to providing musical base.

I have over 200 DVD's 60 of which are music (dont tell my wife) and around 350 CD's. I have found one musical recording in all of these where the sub adds to the music and that is the Michael Jackson History Part 2 DVD (especially the tracks "Stranger in Moscow" and "they dont care about us"). Interestingly although both of these are bass heavy neither are particularly fast bass.

Reading the other reviews here I notice that many people find the bass is inadequate and positioning is vital. I am lucky in that the only available position in the room for me works fine and that I have solid marble floors for all the base to bounce off. Those of you that are not happy with the performance and have stuck with the unit may want to try mounting the unit on a more solid surface - especially bearing in mind that this is a downward firing unit.

The funny thing is that when I bought the Heresey's I expected to need the sub to add depth to the music. This has not proved to be the case and the sub merely blackens the bass obscuring the fine details of the vast majority of the tracks I have tried out. This seems to be the case with every crossover point I have tried from 45 to 70 Hz and various volume settings.

Overall I suppose I cannot complain. The unit has served my well and with all the upgrading I have done I cannot expect it to keep up forever.
