Strength:
Deep, Powerful Bass. Can fill a large room during high volume HT use, also during music. M&K makes oustanding quality products. Only repair need over 20 years in their original subwoofer was a new driver in year 18. The amplifier never has been serviced!
Weakness:
Size. No magnetic sheilding if you need it placed near your TV (MX 150 THX has this) I used the original M&K Volkswoofer (their 1st oferring)with their original S1's in an all music system for 20 years. I upgraded it only to improve my LFE during HT use by using the AV preamp to control the sub. This sub is an outstanding performer. The bass seem to last longer than my previous subwoofer. Bass is "fast" and never "muddy". M&K push pull technolgy puts their product in a class by itself. Set up properly with an SPL meter it never sounds "boomy", it blends very well with my mains during HT use and equally well listening to music. My room is 20' x 12' x 8'. My review is subjective. Audition using equipment close to your own. Buy a sub form a vendor with a generous return policy, and try in your own listening enviroment. Similar Products Used: The original M&K Volkswoofer |

Strength:
Does what a great sub`s supposed to do
Weakness:
Haven`t found one! I almost hate to write this review because I don`t usually jump on the bandwagon. But I must. I`m really into classical music and when I played Bach`s Toccata and Fugue in D-Minor for the first time using this sub I had nooooooo idea what I was missing on the low end. WOW is all I can say! Everything!
Weakness:
Nothing! I loved the affordable Velodyne CT series powered subwoofers, but when M&K and I first met, it was just love at first sight. I paid $561.79 for my Velodyne CT-120 at Circuit City and I just knew that I wasn't going to pay any higher than that on a sub. But when I heard the M&K MX125 subwoofer, I was definitely blown away by the sound. It's just something about M&K's push-pull dual configuration that makes the sound so deep, tight and most of all clean. I noticed distortion on the Velodyne sometimes when being cranked up a little, but none with the M&K which made me pay $500.00 more. If you want a good movie to demo than audiction 007 Tomorrow Never Dies DVD. There is alot of big explosions and on certain scenes, the bass drops tremendously low of sound you can not only hear but really feel. 5 stars for the M&K MX125. Strength:
Tremendous, booming bass at a very reasonable price. This sub puts you in the stratosphere of performance at a nominal price for those who have really made it and don't still live at home.
Weakness:
None for this price range. While I am amazed at this subwoofer. I am equally amazed at the people whose reviews I have read regarding this product. It has been said that there is a corollary between education and money, and, given the price of this sub, I can only surmise that many of its reviewers must be the type who live in double-wide projects or at home. The spelling and grammar are atrocious--which leads me to wonder if some of the reviewers actually own the sub or are merely pretenders to the pantheon of the patricians. Strength:
Great Sound.
Weakness:
Warranty work. Before y'all get too excited about your purchases, just hope your sub doesn't break. Current warranty work is 6-8 weeks backlogged at the Culver City depot - plus I was aghast to find out that only ONE tech is trying to handle this workload. also, once the amp comes back to the dealer, the drivers may still be blown, & THEY will have to go back down there. I expect maybe to see this thing in about 6 months - it's been 1 month already, am waiting on a call back from Culver City re: my paperwork (trying to locate it). I'm going thru withdrawals as it is, & I certainly didn't want to hear any of this news. Similar Products Used: Klipsch, Cerwin Vega, Yamaha |

FAST, ACCURATE, AND WELL DEATAILED.
Weakness:
STRUGGLES TO PLAY DEEP BASS AT HIGH SPLS. Well, I am back with my review of the M&K MX-125 mkII. My review is based on the in store demo before the purchase. Ok the first thing I noticed from the MX-125 MKII sub was it's ability to play accurate with a lot of details which I never got from my previous sub. Although this sub played very good, it did not reach my deep bass SPL requirements for hometheatre use. While I demoed this sub I noticed it had trouble playing deep 20hz passages at high levels. I am being extra critical because this sub is $1800 Canadian where I am from. If I am going to spend $1800 on sub I expect loud deep accurate bass. The MX-125 MKII may be an accuarte sub, but for the asking price I expect alittle more power. While I demoing the MX-125 MKII, I stumbled upon the Mirage BPS-400 sub which was only $1300. Not only did this sub play the deep and loud it was also very, very detailed and musical, it's even comparable to the MX-125 in terms of accurate bass but for less money. Thus I purchased the Mirage. I understand that the MX-125 MKII sub is an American subwoofer brought to Canada, so the price is expected to be $1800. In USA, the asking price for the MX-125 MKII sub is $1100 US and the Mirage which is a Canadian sub is $1300 in the USA, so it's vise versa there. I am sure If I lived in the US I would purchase 2 MX-125 subs for $2200, also I am sure that would satisfy my deep bass craving. But in the end it's price that counts and the MX-125 mkII was a little to high in my country. The MX-125 MKII is a damn good sub which did an excellent job on music so I will give it a perfect mark on that, but since it was priced to high in my country for the quality of SPLS I was getting I will give it half marks on that. Strength:
Everything, cannot locate the bass in the room.
Weakness:
None Very deep, loud, clean and authoritative bass. It's impossible not to have a sh*t eatin' grin on your face when listening to this sub. It's a shame I can't turn it up more often. I recommend that you go out and buy this sub because it'll be the last one! There's only one thing I don't like about it. It causes paranoia because the police could be knocking on your door for the noise complaint and you couldn't hear them. Oops. Similar Products Used: Auditioned NHT & Klipsch. |

Strength:
Good solid low frequency sub. Great sound range and speakers.
Weakness:
Amp electronics are poorly designed. Requires extensive repairs after a couple of years of use. At the beginning of 1999 the sub started to develope an annoying hum when it was not in use. I had one of the top electronic repair facilities in the country take a look at the electronics and give me a diagnosis of the problem. They indicated that the amp was poorly designed and under normal operating conditions would require a major rebuild every 3 or 4 years. The electronic components to repair the sub were not standard stock items and took several months to acquire. It is now 2001 and the sub is starting to hum again. Looks like its going to take another $300 in repairs to keep the sub going. In my opinion M&K should stand behind a product when there is a design problem. The total cost of ownership of the sub is far greater than the initial purchase price. |

Strength:
It is EVERYTHING a true subwoofer should be.
Weakness:
None so far. The MX-125 mk2 is a truly multi-talented sub. It has tremendous output as well as the ability to be very "musical". It's attack is very fast but the recovery is equally quick, no drawn out lagging bass notes. It is easily able to keep up with fast bass while also rendering the different notes very cleanly. I have listened to everything from Techmaster PEB to Primus to Pantera to Mike Stern to various works on Pipe Organ and this sub can do it all and do it properly. DVDs are also great with all LFE channels being handled by the M&K. The Matrix is better than ever and Lost in Space has some ridiculously low bass all the way through it. My trusty Radio Shack sound level meter has shown peaks of up to 120+dB in my moderately sized room while playing "Bass" discs such as Dynamix II "You hear it, you fear it" and "Bass Computer" by Techmaster PEB. These discs have lots of info in the 20-30 Hz range. The subsonic bass shakes the joint and really massages your ears even though you can't really "hear" it.
