Being a fan of Paradigm I knew that when I went looking for a sub I would find a great sub by Paradigm that would outperform other subs within its price range. I own a pair of Paradigm Atoms for my rear channel speakers, a Paradigm CC200 center channel speaker and recently replaced my Paradigm Phantoms with a little better speaker, B&W DM 601's. Knowing from experience the unprecidented price/performance of Paradigms budget speakers, I had to audition the $350 PDR-10. I also auditioned several other subs in this price range as well. By far the PDR-10 was the best in overall performance. As with my other Paradigm speakers I was finding myself saying "wow" a lot when when I auditioned the PDR-10 and was thinking of how much the price tag was. My room is completely filled with very low tuneful bass, not at all boomy and adequately fast and speedy. By running tests on the sub with a test cd, the PDR-10 does in fact play quite loudly around 30hz and only a couple decibals down around 27hz (as claimed by Paradigm). I roll off the sub at about 70hz and have the volume at about halfway. During bass demanding movie scenes and in bass demanding music I find the PDR-10 easily handles anything thrown at it and it produces the notes loudly and smoothly (not boomy either) with never a hint of distortion or strain. It's amazing the level of performance at this price point.
My only gripe is that the PDR-10 does not have 2 sets of speaker wire terminals. There is only one set. I have a 7 year old Pro Logic reciever that has no sub out and therfore I must run a set of wires to the PDR-10 and then twist my satellite speaker wires around the wires from the reciever at the subwoofer.
However, most people have a reciever with a sub out these days and also Paradigm I am sure left out the additional speaker level terminals to save a little money and keep the price down. Knowing this, I can't gripe too much. Therfore I have no choice but to award the PDR-10 5 stars. Excellent buy.

Ya know, I drove myself crazy listening to the opinions people on the site. Many who call themselves "audiophiles" that really are full of @%$#. Figure out how much you want to spend, go with a half dozen reputable manufacturers and give them a test drive at home. I paid $350.00 Canadian for this sub, I found that in this price range there really isn't a heck of a lot of difference between them. The Paradigm PDR-10 was as good as any I tried. I compared it to Energy ES-10, Sound Dynamix, Infinity, Polk Audio, Bose, and a couple more that I can't remember. All were either 8 or 10 inch subs with 100watts max. Some were more expensive, none were cheaper. It has a very rich sound, reasonable quick response. Its very solid, well built and the warrantty don't get any better. For this money you can't go wrong. But like I said, don't take my word for it, try it out. To be honest, it came down to Paradigm or Energy. It was really a toss of a coin, Other that the fact that the Energy was a bit heavier and all around bigger, I couldn't tell them apart under identical circumstances. I went with the Paradigm because of certain esthetics.

This is a dynamite little sub for the money...check it out!Specs respectable, as low as 27Hz, 100 watt amp, relatively quick and well made.
I picked one up for $365.00 Cdn.

The only way I can get great bass from the PDR-10 is to put the volume way over 50% and the crossover at around 110hz. The sub is really not worth $410.00 Cdn,and I know the guys at Kromer Radio ripped me off. The sad part is I can't return it, I should of bought the infinity BU-1.

I agree with the previous review. Some salesperson do bash other Audio products terribly. Some even pretend that they have the same audio components that the buyer has at home (this occurred three times in separate stores that I visitted.) Just remind ourselfs that this is nothing more than one method that salespersons use to sell their products.
Anyway, I had the chance to purchase the Paradigm PDR-10 Powered Subwoofer at a local authorized dealer. I am really pleased with the low extension bass output when "Independence Day" was playing on my HT system. I use a pair of Paradigm Titans and the CC-70 Center channel speakers. The whole system was quite compact yet superb. The PDR-10 really kicks and gave a blow on my system. I have to say that this sub is good for both music and HT.

I'm no expert when it comes into details of audio systems. All I can say is that the PDR-10 gave more that enough bass to the lower end of music such that musical instruments sound much more realistic. It also can shake your room when placed propperly in HT application. I would give it five stars.

Hi all, I am very excited about this, simply because it sounds delicious. Great tonality, no overwhelming bass, very musical sub. Whether its rap, classical, old rock it does the job for me. If your on a budget this is a great one to own no doubt.

Having only $300 to spend on a sub I was originally going to buy the PDR-8 ($280 US)I was able to shop around and get a small Audio store to sell me the PDR-10 for $260. I have it hooked up to a Pioneer Elite reciever (VX-04?) and MB Quart Domain 30's and 20's for the speakers. The sub performs well for both music and HT but is not incredibly loud. It is much better then the PDR-8 though. A 3 star with 1 star for value for a total pof 4 stars. I'm not sure if I could have done better for under $300

Strength:

Great looks, auto-power on/off, deep bass, discrete amplifier with heat sink

Weakness:

no option for using spiked feet; non-removeable front grille

Excellent sub for the price; the build is exceptional (except for the feet). I have Paradigm Titans as fronts and found this sub to compliment the fronts perfectly. I tried the Mission 70asa (8" sub) which sounded okay, but lacked the power to fill in the bass and have an annoying "pop" whenever I turn on/off my receiver. The auto power on/off is convenient and quiet on the PDR-10.
My receiver is an old Harmon Kardon AVR20 (circa 1995), meaning I'm using speaker line in (no dedicated sub pre-out) and Dolby Pro-Logic. Despite the connection to the sub, the bass is tight and deep for movies, and refined for music. Can't wait to upgrade to a Dolby Digital/DTS receiver!!

Strength:

solid construction, deep tight bass, price.

Weakness:

none

If you buy this sub and you're like me, you'll be listening to all of your cd's and dvd's like it's the first time you've heard them! Just love all that deep tight bass filling my room which I might point out is a finished basement 725 sq. ft. I leaned toward the PDR-10 instead of the PDR-12 for it's better sound when listening to music. I use the sub 60%music and 40% home theatre. I did lots of research on subs and listened to many but nothing stood up to the sound and price I heard like this PDR-10. (Sorry Polk Audio, Mirage, Acoustic Research...) I'm very impressed with this product and will upgrade my existing satellites with Paradigm products!
