Strength:

excellent performance, solid build

Weakness:

manual could be improved

Over the past few months I have auditioned many different types of subs and hands down the Paradigm is the best in it's price range. I was leaning to a Polk Audio PSW 350 (and it is a good sub!) but after trying out the Paradigm I was sold. I was less than impressed with the others (jbl, sony and yamaha)too boomy for my taste. The Velo CT-10 was a good sub but doesn't justify the price. All that I tested would be fine for movies but for music the Paradigm is head and shoulders above all others in it's price range. The Velodyne was probably equal but, again, twice as much. The bass is tight, clean and not overpowering. I am not an audiophile but I can tell you this sub is awesome

My living room is 20x25 and this sub provides all the bass that I need, the PDR-12 is also an excellent sub but for more musical tastes, the PDR-10 is a better performer. My reciever is a Denon-AVR-87 and have Polk RT7 fronts and matching center/surrounds. I really wanted to go with all Polk but the PDR-10 is a better sub than the Polk, hate to say it but it is true.
The sub was easy to set up and adjust (if I can do it, anyone can) According to some, the connections have thier limitations but again, we are talking about a 300 dollar sub. I firmly believe you could shell out easily twice the price that the PDR-10 costs and not get any better performance.

Strength:

Sound...excellent conctruction...tremendous value

Weakness:

like most subs...placement will make a slight difference in sound...I think this is unavoidable with just about any sub under 1000 bucks, and is really minor

This sub was actually second to a Sub Mirage had, but it was about 100 bucks (U.S.) cheaper...The difference was pretty negligible...People would be better off saving their money for better amps, speakers, or cables, and buying the Paradigm....this company is legendary for performance/value...

Strength:

Big bang for your buck, nice bass, small

Weakness:

limited inputs, could be a tiny bit faster.

The PDR-10 is my first subwoofer ever that I purchased after
researching the topic for a week using this website. At first, I was less than impressed with it. I had to pretty much turn the sub level to max to get anything audible out
of it. I was using a Sony STR-DE445 as my reciever(DO NOT get this receiver, it hissed badly) to drive my new speaker system. I was considering exchanging it for the more powerful PS-1200, but opted to wait until the weekend when I was purchasing a new receiver. WOW! What a differene a change in gear was! Now I have to lower the subwoofer level
to HALF and the receiver subwoofer level is at +1(12 is the max). Tested it with the Jurassic park DVD(the T-Rex scene) and it did the job very well. When it came to music(especially techo with its fast bass)whether it was DVD or CD, a couple of times I noticed that it wasn't keeping up with the track, for instance the opening club scene of Blade. But it really did not become a nusance. You will only notice it if you pay reallllyyy close attention. It was very quiet(no hiss or buzz) and powerful. I am using Monster Cable M351 subwoofer cable and it does exactly what it says it does, tight bass with minimal distortion. On Gladiator(the coliseum lion scene)it performed almost flawlessly. The roar of the lions envoloped me. Also, the bass was nicely dispersed. It felt like it was coming from the screen. I'm not an audiophile but the overall performance was excellent for this price. But on the other hand you have to be realistic. This is a budget subwoofer for small to medium sized spaces. My room is 19ft by 11ft. If you want that knock you over bass that punches you in the gut for a larger room with more powerful componets, than you might want to look at Paradigm's more powerful subs. Listen first and take into consideration the size of your listening space. Obviously, there are better subwoofers available, especially in the $1000 dollar range. But for this price range(especially if you're on a budget), you can't go wrong. For value a 5.For overall performance, a 4, only because there are better performing subs available.

Overall Value: Price for Performance

After reading a number of reviews and comparing several subs at different stores, I decided to go with the Paradigm PDR-10 for its overall value. I picked one up at Kromer Radio for $350.00 Cdn and it was well worth the extra bucks over the PDR-8 for $290.00 Cdn.

I hooked it up to my Technics SA-AX720 receiver and a SH-AC500D Digital Surround Processor. I used a monster RCA cable to hook up the sub to the "Subwoofer Out" of the receiver (not the digital processor) to ensure a full bass for both music and DVD movies.

Living in a condo, I could only set it the frequency 70Hz and the volume level less than halfway; otherwise, my I would not be able to hear my neighbors knocking on the door.
I highly give the PDR-10 five stars since it lives up to all of its expectations.

Strength:

High value / good sound

Weakness:

None

Got a good deal in MPLS and sales staff was knowledgable and treated me well.

The unit itself sounds very good. Not too bright but certainly not flat.

Also a nice looking speaker.

Certainly a better value than Polk/ Klipsh/ Infinity for same price.

I have been researching for home theater systems for a long time since 10/2000 until now, and I think Paradigm is the best there is. For the amount of money you pay, can't go wrong on quality. I have tested and listened to different subwoofers, the PDR 10 is clear, not boomy, not to loud and sounds great when you play it on 5 speakers. I have been playing my CDs and DVDs all over again and what a difference it has made. I live in a condo in the bottom floor, I wanted to get the PDR 12 or the Klipsch 12inch but the subwoofers were just to loud. If anybody ever tell you to buy subwoofers according to the measurements of your living space, don't believe it, because only YOU can make that decision! Trust me I live in a condo and I know what is too loud or not. I have my PDR 10 match with Titans for the front and CC-170 for the center, my receiver is a Denon 1801. When I move into a house I will move my Titans as the rear speakers and purchase bigger speakers from Paradigm for the front speakers.

Strength:

Very Accurate, Not Boomy, Nice tone variation instead of just pure thumping

Weakness:

Front Grill Cannot be removed

For about the past ten years I have been a advocate of the Home Theater. Just purchase my third one and finally decided to ad a sub. Never been a big fan of subs as most of the ones I've heard actually detract from the listening experience (note: most were low-end).

I've been a loyal Cerwin Vega guy since the begining so I decide to start my hunt for a sub there (they are know for bass). Picked up the LW-12 at Best Buy. Was very impressed; produced extremely loud bass that rattled everything. Unfortunatly, I live in an apartment and it was just too much. Not just the strength of sound it produced, but the size (it's huge!!!). So I returned to Best Buy and order the smaller LW-10.

This was a mistake; I am hoping this was defective. Very poor on accuracy and saying it was "boomy" is an understatement. This is the first product I purchased made by Cerwin Vega that has ever disappointed me (once again, could just have been defective). At any rate I sent it back to where it came from.

Finally I had to defy my loyalty to Cerwin Vega. I went to a local high-end audio store and picked up the Paradigm PDR-10. Hands down! this is know my favorite component of my Home Theather. Dolby should have used 6.0 instead of 5.1 to describe there surrond sound based on the output from this sub. It's clearity level is unbelievable and it produces bass that can shake the walls if that's your thing. Even though I loved the LW-12, but the PDR-10 is head and shoulder above it. I would have never beleived based can actually be music to ones ears until I brought it
home. Make no mistake, if good clear bass at a great price is what your looking for go no futher -- pick this one up and find out why a sub is a must for your Home Theater.

I purchased (2) PDR-10 subs for $265 net each. I must say that it would be Tough to beat them for the money, they crank. Now I'm not saying they compare to higher end subs like B&W's and Velodynes, no sub is the be all end all, but if you have $300 bucks to spend, buy the Paradigm. My system:
(4) B&W DM7 MKII's
(2) PDR-10's

Strength:

Can produce low, clean, tight room filling bass. Cost.

Weakness:

Can't produce knock you over bass (but what do you expect from a 100 watt 10" sub), grille can't be removed.

I am very pleased with this sub. It can fill the room with a deep continouse rumbling bass that can be felt in the chest when a movie calls for it. Having only had subs that get down to the low 40hz high 30hz range it was an entirely new experience listening to a lot of my classical cds and watching some of my favorite movies again (now that I can get down to the high 20hz range). It also does a remarkable job keeping up with bass drum rolls, machine gun shots and the like. I couldn't ask for much more. It can sustain loud low notes and it does a remarkable job for its price defining rapidly changing bass notes.

I picked mine up for $350 Canadian and couldn't be happier. Well that is for the next 5-8 years, till I've been out of school for a while and can afford a Servo15 :)
