Strength:
Power. Great sound at both high and low volumes. BIG difference from the PDR series! The enclosed system really KICKS!
Weakness:
Not yet. I originally purchased the PDR 10 (as you''ll see by my earlier review of that product). And don''t get me wrong, the PDR was a great sub. After about 3 weeks however, I was sitting in my HT space, contemplating my system. My wife came down and immediately knew I was up to something. "I think I need a louder sub" I says. She turns around and walks out of the room without a word (the look of disgust is assumed). Anyhow, the PDR 10 was great, but I found I had the volume nearing two thirds when I really wanted the PUNCH (ie, watching Jurassic Park 3). Now mind you, at the 2/3 level this sub was great, but.... Long story short is I was within my 30 day exchange, so I brought it back and upgraded to the PS1000 (which I originally decided against, due to many ''too boomy'' comments I read on this site.) Anyhow, when I got it home, plugged it in.... OHH.... MY.... GOSH!!! What a HUGE difference. This thing truly shakes the place, even at 1/3 volume level. It was a significant difference from the PDR 10. I haven''t tweaked it extensively, or found that ''sweet spot'' in the room, but thus far ( 1 week now) I love the sound and power. This sub really makes a difference in my HT setup. I''ve also found this unit to be good with CD music (a concern I had initially). The enclosed system with the 3 port holes really punches, almost effortlessly. The PS1000 as capped off my system. Paradigm ''recommended systems'' were spot on when they suggested the PS series for my current speaker mix. This sub makes a tremendous difference. I thought I had it all, but I found there was a bit more. Sure, the sub no longer fits underneath the stereo stand I constructed (specifically for the PDR 10) but oh well. I will gladly scrap my stand for the superior power of this sub. Very happy with this upgrade. Similar Products Used: PRD 10 (also a nice unit). Strength:
Very very solid and can go very loud. Nice deep smooth bass. A steal for 500 bucks (canadian) Go for blemished units, i got 100 bucks off.
Weakness:
At first very boomy. Controls can be tricky. Just let it break in, and take your time setting it up. Doing this makes for an amaizing sounding sub! I bought this sub because i needed somthing bigger. I had the PDR-10 in my bedroom and it was great. But i moved to the basement and its just too big for the PDR-10 to still produce solid clean bass at higher volumes. I really did like the PDR-10 a lot. It was a very good sub in my opinion. But in my big basement room it didnt cut it. So i went looking for a bigger paradigm sub. I was told the Pdr-12 is good, but for the extra 70 bucks to try out the ps-1000. I got it for 500 bucks as a blemished unit (dont see anything wrong). I am running it with the phantoms and wow. The deep solid powerful bass is incredible for a 10 inch sub. It totally seems to disappear into the mix, making the bass seem to come from the phantoms. If you want it to you can knock stuff off walls. Its a truly great sub for 500 bucks. I am glad i got it. Similar Products Used: Have heard all the paradigm subs and they are all awsome). |

For the money, you are hard pressed to find a sub which eagerly produces25 hz, and loud too. I had one for 5 months, then upgraded to the PS1200. |

Strength:
Power, Frequency range, Input & Outputs
Weakness:
Slight humming when not in use and not having yet performed auto-shutdown I originally planned to opt for a REL Q100E which had recieved very good reviews from most HT magazines. I had listened to it and was impressed. I was just about to buy one (for £500) when I was able to get a demo of the PS1000 in Richer Sounds and it only cost £300 (I think Richer Sounds is the only place in the U.K. that stocks Paradigm products). Strength:
Home Theater
Weakness:
Music After reading Tom's review, I feel compelled to update mine. My original review was based entirely from the Home Theater standpoint. I agree with Tom that this sub is somewhat muddy for music use. I didn't really notice this until I upgraded my amps to an H/K PA5800. The mains now deliver incredibly punchy bass, and it exaggerates the fact that the PS1000 just can't keep up in this regard. |

Strength:
strong and deep bass excellent HT and music too!
Weakness:
can over power main speaker compared the NHT sub one to PS1000, paradigm blew it away and it cost me less. I thought NHT was not able to produce the deep bass I wanted. However when I heard the PS1000 the deep bass was there, and the sub level wasnt even up 1/4.For sure that this sub has room to spare for a demanding listener. So if you like thunder check this out. See below I took my Yamaha RX V2095 to the Good Guy's here in Sacramento for it's 2 year cleaning and inspection. They gave me a loaner which caused my PS1000 to quit. Paradyme Similar Products Used: Infinity and Paradigm PS1000 |

Strength:
Power, accuracy, speed, low frequency extension
Weakness:
none besides size, it's huge for the size of driver! I had been saddled with a really poor sub by infinity, their BU-80. I actually quit listening to music and movies with it. I went to Paradyme in Sacramento to buy a newer sub and they were doing a total remodel and some of the rooms were under construction. They had 2 PS1000 subs that weren't being used and I asked him if they could give a demo price for one! He gladly did so and even set it up to listen to with some other components. I purchased it for $380 including a 5 year warrenty, plus an 8 meter THX certified Monster Cable for the sub. This unit is awesomne in it's capabilities. I used the Avia test dvd to set it up. This monster really does have some low output capability! Once I got things set I cranked it up. 1st impression is to anchor my pictures to the wall as they really shake. I was really impressed by how fast it was compared to my Infinity. I'm really enjoying this on my music as well. I'd say I listen to music 90% of the time! I've found a good match for my Paradigm Titan's. I am looking forward to purchasing more Paradigm products. I feel that I would have to spend a lot more money to beat it. After I played Apollo 13 my neighbor came by and I replayed it fir him, he had a smile from ear to ear! I've listended to a lot of other subs looking to replace the BU-80 and this one is a winner, nice price to. Similar Products Used: Infinity, Boston, Polk, Cerwin Vega, Velodyne |

Strength:
Clean, solid bass
Weakness:
none This sub is great for my smaller room. I have this matched with a NHT set-up (2.1's up front) and they sound great together. What I demand from my sub is clean (not boomy) bass and this sub brings it. It's nice to have the gain control on the back. Later in the evening I'll dial that back a little because I live in a townhome complex. |
