Strength:

Great value, wonderful for HT

Weakness:

Too muddy for music, placement can be a problem

I've been using this sub since about 1993 (wow, didn't know it's been THAT long) and it is still my best purchase to date. I very much doubt anything can beat it for the price; you get a LOT of bang for your buck with this. I've never been able to even approach full power, and I've used it in a multitude of configurations (speaker-level in, line-in using crossover between pre-amp and amp stages, line level via subwoofer out). It performs wonderfully in all.

Frequency response is good down to below 30 Hz and it gives a definite oomph to movie soundtracks.

That said, this is definitely a better sub for home theater than music. It wasn't until recently that I became able to discern how muddy and slow this sub is when it comes to music. It can also be localized fairly easily, which is a bad thing. Best placement I've had was in a very small rooom directly behind me - it was utterly impossible to tell that the bass wasn't coming from the small Titan bookshelf speakers. If this is an option available to you, I highly recommend trying it.

Strength:

Really shakes the house .

Weakness:

And my neighbours?

Tried a few subs out and i thought this was the best . Really makes some noise . Wathched matrix with it ,really enhanced the overall sound . I think once you have it you cant do with out a good sub .For music it is a bit slow but will do. If youre using it just for music look towards another sub.If youre on a tight budget and want to enhance youre speakers and get the room moving this is the one .

Strength:

Sharp, crisp base

Weakness:

Ouch, my back

I have the 2001 version 2 model with the rounded corners
WOW is all i can say. I am not sure why someone would not love this sub. When watching DVD's, this thing shakes my basement.
Size was an issue due to a relatively small viewing area, with 8' ceilings. Thought about the 1200, but went the 1000 due to saving $150, and a bit smaller. Even though, still is heavy as heck, but oh well. FOr a 10" driver, this thing pounds. have been screwing aroudn with the dials in behind, but pretty much keep volume @ 6 and let it rock.
Love playing Kid Rock's Cowboy and Bawitdaba, and this thing pounds.
Has been getting warm on the cooling panel though.
Love the auto off feature.

Listening is basically for dvd's, music, and watching hockey.

My system:
Television Sony Kp53v85
Reciever Marantz SR7000
DVD Sony S560D
Mains Paradigm Monitor 5 v2
Center Paradigm Cc 370 v2
Rears Paradigm Mini Monitor v2
sub Paradigm ps1000

If in the NW, they guys at Sound City were amazing, decent price, but service beyond expectations. Great guys to deal with.

Strength:

Goes low, not localized, POWERFULL, great for music, good construction

Weakness:

Speaker level input and output is just small clips

I purchased this sub for my dorm room along with some Pioneer speakers and a Yamaha amp. The system was purhased only for music.
I went to the dealer with the intent to audition and probably buy the more expensive PW2200. The reviews for it sounded persuasive but after listening to a couple music tracks I was disappointed. The salesman then suggested I listen to the PS1000. Immediately the sound was tighter, but strangely I heard the same intensity of bass pretty much anywhere in the room, so much so that I thought some other sub or speaker was on. It seems to hit every bass note with power. Comparing my KSW-12 (hooked up to the Home theater) to it was an embarrassment, the PS1000 brutalized it on music. I can't speak on the PS1000 prowess in the HT (DVDs) arena, but for music it completely rocks. I am thinking about another actually.

Strength:

Nice, cheap, effective. Great for movies, ok for music.

Weakness:

Boomy and way too overpowering even in my larger room. It's also picky about where you put it.

I bought this peice back in january, I thought I'd just pick up a cheap sub to add some bass to my system. I originally ordered an Energy es 10 ( I think) but the unit I got was defective and sent it back. I like the PS1000 but I think it's pretty slow and sounds badly unless you have just the right settings. Otherwise it goes very low and is great for movies. It's pretty good with music too. I kind of like the PDR 10 better but if you ever feel like shaking the room this is what you'll need. Nice, cheap and effective for makin people mad.

Awesome bass

Most of my listening is home theater. I was dissatisfied with my former JBL PSW 1200 which continually bottomed out. The PS1000 never does and takes everything in stride. I have it in the corner with the ports and controls facing out--since I have to adjust it frequently--primarly volume level controls depending on (a) whether a spouse is in the house (b) whether you want to shake the walls, throw pictures off the hook, feel like you need a seat belt for the couch, or (c) listening to music, in which case the volume must be turned way way down. I have the Paradigm mini-monitors for the front speakers, cc-70 as the center, and atoms for the rear. I use a Sony STR DE 875 receiver.I was concerned about stepping down from a 12 inch to 10 inch subwoofer but was not disappointed. Living room size is about 15 x 20 and extending into an open dining area. I am afraid to use more than 1/2 (12 o'clock) volume level for the subwoofer. I watched Private Ryan at 1/2 volume and my next door neighbor complained that he was in his bathroom and his walls were shaking. I have finally learned some self control and try to keep the volume level at 1/4 for home theater. I demoed the Velodyne CT120 and the PSW 1000 knocked its socks off (at leat to my ear). It is moderately sized and not obtrusive. I have the newer model with all four sides beveled. It is down-firing which means my cats can't scratch a grill cover.I once listened to a guitar CD and forget to turn the volume down--each guitar pluck sounded like I was watching the Matrix. This is really an awesome subwoofer.

Strength:

cost, bass blast !

Weakness:

mains Hmmm

the Ps 1000 is a real beast , pumps out loads of base and real easy to set up . unfortunatly i have returned the second unit in the last month , i just could not live with the mains Hmm . It was unbearable for HT , if you want to demo this the best film is six sense when the kid goes for a leak ! the Hmmm from the PS1000 killed the film.

But films with slam & depth e.g die hard 3 the PS 1000 works wonders it knocks down walls , just a real shame about the mains Hmmm.

I have gone for the REL strata III its a real baby but costs a small fortune compared to the Paradigm
