Strength:

Excellent Sub, Smooth bass at low or high volume

Weakness:

Size

I hooked the 2200 to a denon 5800 with mission 780,s center and bipolars in a medium sized cinema room.
I ran the system without the sub for months and it sounded good but now it sounds great.
The 2200 fills all the gaps in the sound, at low volume or high volume it really is a must for any home cinema.
Subtle and smooth or strong and loud it handles anything beautifully. One of the best pieces in my system.

Strength:

Strong punch, plays low, plays very loud. Little if any disortion at high levels

Weakness:

Some may consider size...but a big sub is so cool.
Not as fast a some higher end subs.

This is my new updated review. After a year of use this guy is still pumping out the bass like it was an unlimited source. I just wanted to touch on a few things, but read my review below as well.

To start off I want to talk about setting up the amp. After much testing and retesting I have concluded that the sub works much better when you run the amp hot. What I mean by hot is that you have the volume of the sub (on back plate amp) turned up all the way and the volume of the "subout" turned down. 2 things result from this. 1 you have a lot more play with the volume of the sub for caibrating. 2 the sub plays more controlled. Basically you are running the amp at its max capacity all the time. I haven't had one problem with distortion as some people have said would happen with this configuration. It simply put the most power to the driver all the time.

Your best bet is to try it out for a week, then go back to your original configuration. I bet you stay with the new config.

I also want to touch on its musical ability. Some say that it isn't a fast sub. I want to correct this illusion. It is a fast sub, just not the fastest. There are plenty of subs out there, both DIY and manufactured that can play faster. But I'd like to see them play that fast with the depth and volume that the PW2200 does. The PW2200 plays low, very loud, and fast, but not very fast.

Hope that helps.

Strength:

Very powerful, with incredible low end slam. Surprisingly musical. Cost

Weakness:

A little sensitive to placement and adjustment settings.
a bit heavy, but who cares.

I can hear every wall vibrate even at 1/4 power. If I play it at full power, I fear that my homes' foundation will weaken, which means that this sub is living up to expectations, as I purchased it after reading the reviews here at audioreview.
My system is:
Harman Kardon AVR-310 reciever
Paradigm Monitor 5 v.2 Front
Paradigm ADP-370 Surrounds
Paradigm PW-2200 Sub
Older Kenwood CD player

I may seem a little biased but paradigm makes an excellent product for an excellent price. My sugggestion for U.S. customers is to come north if you want to buy Paradigm product, they seem to cost as much canadian as they do in USD$.

I shopped several stores looking long and hard for the right
sub. In the process I listened to many other brands. I was
having a hard time deciding whether to enhance my music with
a sub or just buy a big old sub for noise and power for my
home theater. I was beginning to like the sound of the
Infinity I had listened to and liked because the base was
very tight and strong. Then the dealer pulled out this ps-
2200 and ran it through it's paces. I shook with every beat.
The bass was very deep and powerful. Needless to say, I
brought it home. When I turn it up a mite, every picture
in the house jumps. Admittedly, this is a little overkill.
I know now I have the power if I want or need it. I also
found that this guy can be very musical and am learning
to listen to it with music for a treat. It does everything
I ask of it and I am pleased. Go get one!

I was looking for something different to upgrade my speaker system, which was well into its 10th year. So I decided to go with a powered sub. Having little experience with subs, I decided to audition a Paradigm PDR-12 in my home enviroment. I was so blown away by what I heard, I was sold. I really loved this guy. Music would never be the same again, impressive! I would listen to music for hours and hours (I had this thing for a week). Then, I read the rave reviews on the Paradigm PW-2200. So I figured what the heck, I might as well go with the best, returned the PDR-12 and ordered a PW-2200 (I was sold on Paradigm!). I also bought a pair of Paradigm Monitor 3's v2 (see review). Couldn't wait to get home and set these up. Alright, everything is set up, and ready to audition my system with my favorite CD. Powered up, and ready to get blown away! 1st song sounded like crap! Delay, missing spectrum, nothing in the low end that even resembled the PDR-12. Even the wife looked at me kinda funny! Back to adjusting the knobs at the back of the sub. Got close but no cigar. 2nd song went by, but still some delay, and some mushiness, no definition. More adjustments. This was it, best I could get. Song 3, 4, went by nothing spectacular. Then came song 5. The PW-2200 unleashed a "terror" that is difficult to describe. There was no bottom to the sound, the floor and wall was shaking, and there was this pounding in the chest. Kitchen cabinets were rattling. Backed off the level a bit, till I had a balance between the sub and the Monitor 3's. Delay was gone. The system came alive! What happened? I had noticed this same phenomena with the PDR-12 (delay, lack of presence)for the first couple of hours, then it too, came alive. I theorize that most likely, the speaker cone and the cone surround had to get "broke in", to establish its range of motion and flexability. This speaker sounds just great now!
Where the PDR-12 left off, this beast takes over with some real serious authority with no bottom in sight. Who's the Boss? Daddy's home!!

I've read that Paradigm speakers require a break in. They're not kidding. A couple of hours at most should do it. My sub settings are: level at about 1 o'clock ( I love bass), Delay at 0 (the speaker settled in perfectly), Frequency set at about 80Hz.

Enjoy!

Strength:

Powerful, clean, no hum at all, and auto on/off

Weakness:

too powerful for an apartment -- at least according to the neighbors :) ....

I can't add much to what has already been said. This is a fine and amazing piece of equiptment. It goes so low and the pressure level it exerts when it is turned up is amazing. I have a surf movie called, "in God's hands" that starts with a giant wave crashing and you can almost feel the wave smack you in the face.
I am also very inclined to listen to music, and it is awesome. It is super tight and clean for being so large. Unbelievable at this price point.

I paid 800.00 for this sub and it is simply the best sub i have ever heard.I got yelled at by my neighbor because i shook his mirror of the wall and shattered it;and no i dont live in an apartment.the sub is simply to loud and goes to deep for me to even turn it up loud enough to enjoy it; without pissing my neighbors off.so make sure that if you buy this sub you have a concrete basement to put your home theater in so you slam that bass around the room without disturbing others.this is a hot ticket item and i guarantee this sub is the best sounding sub under $1500.00.

From classical to jazz and from rock to rap, this subwoofer can do it all. It's a very musical subwoofer. The output is very tight and clean and also very loud. This 250 watt 12 incher subwoofer can extended to as low as 16 hertz. Also it is extremely excellent for home theater. The movie " Clear and Present Danger" is a good example to show off the sub. Another good movie to try is "seven". This movie has extremely low bass and the Paradigm sub can handle every bit of it, without a sweat. All in all, this is a remarkable subwoofer. Not many can compete with this kind of output for a retail of $799. I was able to purchase mine for $630. Before you buy, go out and listen to the Paradigm 2200 powered subwoofer and be amazed.

Mr. Sub

My opinion of this Sub:
If you are into HT more than 50% of the time (vs. music) this Sub's for you.

It 's ported so it trades off a little accuracy for hard hitting power. It is not though, just a bloated beast. It hits you hard. It hurts!

Musically it does great with drums and organ. With quick low bass lines it does not excel. Some may argue this, but I thing that for under $1000 you have to choose between music and HT. I auditioned the Cambridge SW sub and it was great with music, but so-so with HT. What happens is that, in general, acoustic suspension subs (like the CSW) are quick. While ported (like the Paradigm) go low and deep. Good subs (like my Paradigm) while not equally adept at both strike a balance that suits a need. I am about 60/40 HT to Music. This is a good sub for me. If it was 40/60 I might go for the CSW , though maybe not - I love organ music and drums!

I use to own a pair of HSU 1225 subs. They had 250 watts going to each.I was never quite satisfied with their bass response. I am very demanding on
my system. I wanted bass that you could here but I also wanted bass you could
feel. I went and bought a 2200 sub, and brought it home. I could not believe
how awesome the bass was coming from that one $800.00 sub. I sold both of my
HSU subs within a couple of weeks. I plan to buy another 2200 in about a week.
Its not because 1 is`nt enouth. I believe 2 enhances the presense and takes
some of the work load. The rest of my system consist of the following.

2 pair Acoustic Research 312s for front and rear
1 Acoustic research center speaker
1 Denon AVD2000 Dolby Digital processor
1 Millenium DTS processor
1 Toshiba 2108 dvd player
1 Pioneer cld 606 laserdics player
System powered by 3 Parasound hcca 1000 amps
2 Panamax mx1000 line conditioners
