I bought this subwoofer and a $500 one from Best Buy and let me tell you, this one BLOWS the competition away. It is worth the extra money. I paid around $700 and I love it. Clear and Present Danger, T2, and Lost in Space sound great!!! Get this sub, youll love it too.

Strength:

Good clean sound

Weakness:

Not as much punch as other subs

I first want to annoy all of those who hate people that audition equipment and then post reviews because this is what I am doing. The only reason I am doing this is because I am a little dismayed by the rave reviews of this sub.

I read the reviews and drove 2 hours to the closest Paradigm dealer. My intention was to walk out with a sub, most likely the PW-2200. I planned on using it for both HT and music. I listen to a wide range of music, but most of which I would consider in the realm of Rock (Grateful Dead, Tori Amos, Pantera, Pavement, Rage). I like to see live bands at local bars and concerts. The home theater thing to me was no problem. Almost any good sub can do HT. The important thing was to be able to blend the sub with my main speakers and get a good strong slam.

What I remember about the set up was a Rotel CD player and B&W 801. The first CD I listened to was Tool. After messing with the sub for a while, adjusting the volume and moving it around the room, I was not impressed. It was clean and flat, but it did not much life to the music. I then auditioned several other subs finally settling on the Def Tech PL-15. Yes that's right, I felt the Def Tech PL-15 out performed the PW-2200, but this isn't a review of that sub.

All in all the PW-2200 is a good sub, but it was not what I was looking for. When I go to a concert or see band at a local bar, I feel the bass. Not sloppy, slow bass, but solid hit you in the chest bass. The PW-2200 didn't do that.

I would honestly give this sub a 3, but since I only auditioned it, I will give it a 4 as to not drag down the rating.

Strength:

Very musical tight, deep bass

Weakness:

a bit large for smallish listening rooms

After several months of auditioning and reviewing subwoofers I decided to spring for the PW2200. Listened and looked at a wide range of 12" and 15" units by Paradigm, AR, Velodyne, Klipsch, Polk, Cambridge and must say that in my price range (

Great sub, love it

NOTE: ^That $2200 is in Australian $

This is a very, very, very good sub.

I have it running with my Paradigm Monitor 9 v.2 and the performance is unbelievable. I am a big fan of Paradigm but wouldn't give this sub a good review for no reason.

Luckily I don't have too! This sub is nothing short of amazing. The most important thing for me is it's extremely clean sound. It doesn't bring attention to itself like a lot of cheaper subs, it's just 'there'. Don't want lots of bass? Adjust it to match...want a sh*tload of bass? Ditto.

Everyone has a different opinion, but do yourself a favour and audition one while looking around - I think you'll thank me!

Strength:

High Impact on movies and music. Low cost. High value.

Weakness:

Does not go below 25hz well.

This is an update to a review I posted a couple of years ago.
Well I now own 2 of these bad boys. They absolutely rock on Dolby/DTS soundtracks. I have them positioned up in the front of my room, one in each corner. They are on the LFE channel. They do everything except give you the shake sensation that I so desire. For that I have a Velodyne FSR-15 on the LFE as well, but it is xover at 40hz, and is right behind my sofa. What a sensation. The rest of the system is as follows.
Front Mains Definitive Tech BP2000Tls
Center Front Definitive CLR-3000
Side Surrounds Definitive Tech BP 2004Tls
Surround Back Definitive Tech BP2X's
5- Marantz MA-700 Monoblocks
1-Parasound Hca 1000 amp for surround back
1-Onkyo TX-DS787 reciever as preamp/processor

For video
1-Toshiba 65H80 16:9 television
1-Toshiba SD6200 Progressive DVD Player
1-DishNetwork 6000 HD DSS system

Notes: All Channels are run on Large setting and the LFE is completely independant.
There is no longer a need to go to the theater.

As far as the PW-2200's go they are a very important part of this system. Without them the system looses a lot of LFE punch. In all reality a system would sound great with only 1 of the PW-2200's.

Highly Recommended.

What else can be said about this fantastic sub? There is a good reason why it gets the reviews it does. It goes way low ("The Matrix" is like a new movie with this sub) and seems very musical.

I have the PW-2200 connected to my Marantz SR-7000 receiver. Paradigm Monitor 5s for the fronts, CC-350 center, and Mini Monitors for the rears. As you can tell, I am a Paradigm fan. Their speakers offer excellent performance for the investment.

The PW-2200 is highly recommended! Be sure to take a listen to this sub if you are looking in this price range.

Strength:

clear and well defined bass

Weakness:

a bit to large 19h-16w-21deep

i bought the pw2200 about 6 months ago the first four months of owning the sub i did not receive satisfying bass with school and work i didn't have the time during the fifth month i started experimenting with it i wasn't expecting any difference when i turned on the music i noticed a more enveloping fuller bass i was suprised. this was accomplished with just moving the controls in the back. I have it place close to the middle of a wall and it can go pretty deep. according to hometheather magazine they did a close miked frequency test at +-3db and obtained a frequency of 34hz and for def-15 obtained a45hz rating. i think this sub really needs a breakin period or alot of experimenting to enjoy it

At 800 bucks this sub has to be the best sub I have heard in a while. I listened to the THX certifed McIntosh SL-1 and was dissapointed considering its price. The two subs are the same spec's but the PW2200 but more modestly priced. Both have 250 watts RMS and A 12" woofer. I went with the Pw2200 and am happy with it. The bass is tight and very well controlled for a sub that large. The only gripe that I have with it is there is no way to turn it on and off, you can only have it on or have auto detect mode on... Check the Pw2200 out...

For home theater this sub is fine. It will certainly make any movie more exciting with its ability to shake the room during action sequences. However, it fails on music. It's slow and does not respond quickly when playing complicated passages. When asked to play fast, it falls all over itself and mushes the notes together. If you will use it in a home theater system, by all means go for it. For $800 it's a good value. If, however, you will use it more for music listening, you would be better off stepping up to a entry level REL subwoofer.

The Pw-2200 excels like no other near the price range for music. It is exceptionally controlled, more so than anything below $1,000, and many above. It has a defined attack, and also does A/V. I have mine connected to some fine Mondial designs amps, and DVD gear. Both music and a/v come out SUPERIOR.
I have heard this sub with Parasound, Krell, and Conrad-Johnson front ends! They all control exceptionally well.
Connected to good [real] electronics, the bass is deeps as a chasm, tight, defined and clear on all material. It complements my $2,000 satellite speakers perfectly.
