Strength:

Very fast, tight and clean, very good built in amp. 400 rms and paradigm is being conservative.

Weakness:

HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use it for music 60% and movies 40%, I am extremely picky when it comes to "quality bass" and flat out, this sub delivers. I was looking for these things in a sub.
1. musical.
2. tight and clean.
3. low frequency response.
4. maintain lows at high volume.
5. no boominess
6. could shatter my neighbors windows,if I chose to do so.
7. blend in well

the servo15 did everything I was looking for.

I spent alot of time looking for a good sub. and I found the only way I was going to get a good one, I was going to have to shell out more cash than I planned to. I bought mine in canada and paid about $900 in US dollars. I guarantee that you won't find a better sub less than $2000.
Moreover, the amp is great,.. it is a 400 watt rms high output hybrid design, it has a toroidal transformer (found on very good amps) plus the closed loop servo system is quite expensive to build. See paradigms website for futher specs, but you need to audition it for yourself.

Made the mistake of getting an M&K subwoofer when I purchased my Paradigm Speakers. Although it sounded good with the Paradigms, when I auditioned the Servo-15 at a dealer-BOOM. Had to have it. Sold my M&K at a loss, picked up the Servo-15 with the X-30 crossover, and never looked back. Clean, tight accuratebass is what you get with this baby. I'm running it in a 16X24 room, and it will run you out of the room with the dynamics and sheer power. I agree with the other guy-the SOB is HUGE. Plan on moving the Lazy Boy out to the garage for you folks planning to put one in the poor-mans rec-room. Who needs a Lazy Boy though? Hell, just put a cushion on the Servo and invite some guests over.....

Weakness:

Large size; lack of internal crossover (it would be nice to see an internal crossover AND a crossover bypass input)

I bought the Servo to compliment my Paradigm Reference 100v.2's (which go rather deep themselves -- flat to about 35 hz). I've heard (or should I say felt...) things from this sub that I never experienced before; the floor literally flexes on big bass drum notes in classical music.

I've found that this sub is not boomy (at least when crossed over at 80 hz or below), and blends seamlessly in two-channel listening.

If you are looking for a sub that is versatile, not just a room shaker, but can still provide a big, big impact, this could be your sub. I know there are other subs that can outplay this sub in terms of quantity, but probably not in terms of output AND articulation. Recommended.

Weakness:

none

I owned a aerial speaker setup including the aerial sw 12 sub, I wanted a second sub for life , I tried a aci titan 2 anda vel hsg 15 and didn't like either, both were boomy imo, I thought that since I had the aerial I could not be happy with anything else, but a freind advised me to try the servo 15,I did, I hooked it up as the main sub to break it in , I was totally surprised when I found that it matched the aerial in bass contol and tightness, it actually goes deeper then the aerial and never looses control, the aerial has a tendency to bottom out on action dvd movies, it would start popping during heavy action scenes, although excellent musicly, I don't think it is a good ht sub, so I wound up selling the aerial and now have 2 servo 15's, so the bottom line is you don'thave to break the bank for a great sub.

Weakness:

Doesn't do very well on mid-bass (50-100hz). But that isn't a problem.

Hi all!
This sub play tones which I have never heard before! It goes extremly low, without loosing control at any time. And it doesn't make that "boomy" bass, like the B&W2500 and many other subs. I was really surprised when I heard it with music! It doesn't overpower the system at all, it is just clean and tight bass!
The only problem is that it isn't very good in the midbass area. So you can't use it with satelite speakers. It is only good on the low tones. I set all my speakers to large, and sends only the LFE track to the sub. And it sounds great!
My system:

Harman/Kardon AVR3000 reciever
Lasonic 8050 DVD-player
Infinity Kappa 80 front
Infinity Kappa Center II center
Infinity Kappa Rear (rear)
Paradigm Servo-15 sub
Telefunken 29" tv

I am thinking of buying Paradigm Studio 80, Studio/CC and Studio/ADP. CAn anyone recommend that, or some other speakers??? I would be happy with some help!

Strength:

Very tight, very low. Amazing transient response!

Weakness:

Nada!

It's mind boggling how they can squeeze such accurate sound out of such a massive driver...and it still goes flat down to 14 hz!! Amazing! HSU or M&K can't touch it, don't let anybody tell you otherwise. This sub is not far behind the $3000 B&W ASW4000 but is still much smaller. Do yourself a favor, if you need a good sub check this baby out.

Strength:

true low end response and speed

Weakness:

none

This is a true audiophile subwoofer going for the extreme low end frequency where the "home theatre" subwoofers fear to tread. This means that it does justice to music, not just effects. It mates quite well with fast speakers like the Apogee Centaurus, giving them the benefits of both extra kick and improved amplifier efficiency for the main speakers. In an audio only set up the outboard crosover is a Godsend. Clean, flexible, and can be placed at the preamp output for much shorter cable runs. Good idea.
People have stated that the subwoofer colors the midrange in their setups. Folks, no subwoofer, this or any other can affect the midrange unless it's crossed over way to high (or being run full range). You're supposed to use the outboard crossover-there's none in the speaker! I'm set at 40 hz. Second, people have noted varying results with amount of bass produced. I've seen (and felt!) this subwoofer ripple floors and ceilings. Yet real subwoofers, (not just this one), will invariably have response problems. Why? Room size can be your friend or enemy. Sound is produced in waves (you know, peaks and troughs). Depending on where you're sitting, well it can be bass or no bass. Plus, if you do your physics you'll discover that most rooms can't support a real deep, deep bass wave. Check it out. This is one of the reasons why the room is often considered the most difficult audio component.
So, this speaker, properly set up, is fast, deep, powerful and articulate. It's at least on a par with some of the best subs out there. Fun, reasonably priced and worth an audition.

Strength:

Good boom for movie!

Weakness:

So much money for you. More here! Stools could loosen and windows could buzz.

I am seeing the boom in the other writings but better is the REL by so far passed what other guy says it is funny. But Servo-15 is pleasing. Not sold here any more I do not think. It is ok to be about in the center of thew stars! With booming sound a stool could buzz and windows could buzz.

Strength:

Extremely musical, extremely good subsonic resposne.

Weakness:

Loosens my stools.

This subwoofer is just unreal. After in in-home demo where the REL Strata and HSU were completely embarrased it came down between the Servo 15 and the M&K 350 THX. The Servo 15 got the nod becuase of the non-existant performace of the M&K on subsonic frequencies, and lack of impact. The M&K strained to do things that the Servo 15 did without breaking a sweat, plus was much more musical than the M&K. Both subs absoulely pissed all over REL and HSU (how are these people still in business?). The Servo blends perfectly with musically inclined main speakers. I just cannot believe how good music is on this sub! Home theater is just unreal! Very clean, very tight, and never strains. The lack of a built in crossover is also a great plus, but the X-30 is available if you want it for some reason. Just for kicks, I compared the Servo 15 to the $3000 B&W ASW4000 and was pleasently surprised! The two were almost identical! The B&W has a slight edge in the upper regions, but not $1700 better. This sub is just amazing, put it on your list of subs to check out when it's upgrade time..especially if you need a good sub for music!!!!

Strength:

Very substantial build!

Weakness:

Poor on dynamic bass. Noisy

This is a nice subwoofer but I think it is overpriced. I just heard the HSU Research 1220 and it was far more impressive for movie effects and I think it was actually a bit quicker for music. My Velodyne has been a real workhorse and I think I'll just stay with it or get the HSU. My dream sub is the REL Stata III which is actually $100 cheaper than the Servo-15 but far better in performance to my ears over both the Servo-15 and HSU. Unfortunately, there aren't any dealers near Goshen Indiana:)
