Strength:

Low and strong bass

For HT use, a subwoofer is a must. Try this sub, you won't be dissappointed. It shakes my room, rattles my windows. For music, placement is critical. When I played Red Planet, I can hear very low and deep sound I cannot hear even using my tower speakers. I also place it near my left wall, and I put 30 x 60 cm styrofoam to reduce the boomy sound because of the sound wave bouncing off the wall. I think flatness is critical for music listening. Imagine how hard to setup all the equipment (front speakers and the sub) to get flat response. I think, single active sub is not for music.

Strength:

small size, plenty of power

Weakness:

LIke other reviews have said you must turn the gain up to 75 or 80 percent to get the bass going

I have not played with proper placement yet as I had to put behind the stereo rack so that my 3 year old would leave the settings alone. But even with the poor placement its still give you that nice rumble. Maybe with better placement and a little tweeking I'll be able to feel the bass. I have a dts yamaha on order so that should really help. I;m not saying its the best sub but the price was right it meets all of my specs. The price should have been 199 but it was an open box item so I took a chance and hit a winner.

Strength:

Price, Full low bass, Really shakes the house.

Weakness:

None at this price. A touch boomy with music.

Great subwoofer especially for the price! Really shakes!
Definately recommend this one.

I didn't want to spend too much more than CAD$500 (USD$375),
so didn't listen to many "high end" subwoofers. While there may be some big$ that sound better, (if you believe some of the reviews below), this is definately a best buy of those under USD$400 (CAD$500). Sears Canada price just dropped from CAD$399 to $299 (about US$165) -worth a try.

I had read reviews and compared subwoofers in many stores. As I couldn't find much at this price (
Very impressed! Plenty of power, DEEEP bass and seems to be getting tighter. Recently watched Independence Day HiFi VIDEO (using the sub-out on Kenwood VR510 & new Dolby Prologic2) - WOW. I was so absorbed that I didn't realize how powerfull it was until I headed to the bathroom - the whole house (1100 sq') was rattling. When I first got the Kenwood & Sony subwoofer, I had borrowed a DVD (basic Konica) but hadn't got everything set-up properly. Will get DVD very soon & now I am really looking forward to trying a DTS DVD.
It does seem to be getting better with use (several have mentioned a break-in period). It does seem a touch boomy for music but I am still trying different positions and settings. Besides it's easy enough to turn it down a notch.

Strength:

How "low" can you go, Low Bass, Sound Volume.

Weakness:

Auto power switch

I bought this product after reading some reviews on this site. I use the Bose AM 10 II for surround and normal audio, this systems produces not the bass sound I like, but in combination with this sub-woofer it sounds great!
Tip: Just buy it now before it's not available anymore...

Tight clean acurate bass down to 20 hz

Weakness:

when i first hooked this sub up to my cheap RCA a/v amp
that only has 50 watts a channal i was shocked when i watched the matrix it put out nice deep clean bass.
It filed my large living room up with bass ( it rocked my walls crazy , pictures fell down wow )

THE THING THAT SUCKS IS THAT IT IS SOLD WITH A 150 WATT AMP
IN KICK ASS CANADA BUT HERE IN THE STATES IT ONLY HAS A 120 WATT AMP.

Strength:

Awesome thump. No break-ups. No le. No distortion. Great price.

Weakness:

None.

Why would anyone purchase any other sub after listening to this one? Go ahead, buy you Velodynes and your SVS's if all you have is money to burn.

The only problem with this sub-woofer is that Sony prices their excellent-quality speakers too low!

Strength:

Everything- low bass, mid bass, power, accuracy, price. This sub is so good one could mistake it for a Velodyne!

Weakness:

None, unless you are an idiot who does not recognize good sound.

What I like most about this sub is that it's easily affordable. However, you can't find it anywhere anymore because the word is out- this sub kicks. Two weeks ago a local Best Buy got a shipment of at least ten SA-WM40s, and when I went there today they were long gone. It's just cool for me to see how popular they are. That's bad for you people who want it though.
While I can't command all of you to run out and get this speaker because I don't know what anyone's system is like, I must say it works wonders for my HT/Stereo setup, and I've got all budget equipment.
All I can say, to avoid unsatisfactory performance, is to try it out with speakers that are similar to, if not the same as, the ones you own. If you don't like, don't buy. I might eventually try to get another one to really bring the dorm down. Until then, bugging the other wing's inhabitants will do just fine.
BTW my gain is set at little over half and the cutoff is at around 110Hz.

I am sending this to compensate for the seven idotic reviews that statitically don't reflect any value to this forum.

The is a great sub fro a great price, and If some idots don't like to read that, then they should move on. The majority of the people in this forum have both "good ears" and a good taste for quality and value.

This sub is worth every dime for $199. If you got a better price than that, good for you ! An even sweeter deal !

By the way, the sub does measure 17Hz and 116hz on the low and high ends.
