Strength:

Price, Appearance, ease of operation, sound

Weakness:

For $139 (open box) How can there be any weaknesses

How they can sell this awesome sub for such a low price is beyond me. I originally bought this bad boy for a HT I was setting up for my sister. But after hooking this up to her receiver (Sony str db-940)I was completely blown away by the performance.
So I decided to keep this and bought her another a week later at Best buy for $189.
What else can I say... I love this thing!!!

Strength:

EXCELLENT VALUE!

Weakness:

Slow in comparison to my Paradigm Mini-Monitors. This is an excellent VALUE sub for Home Theater if you want to add more bass. BUT it's not a good audio-listening match for a nice tight speaker like a Paradigm.

I had been looking for a sub to improve my listening experience with my Paradigm Mini-Monitors. I was going to buy a Paradigm PDR-10, but the salesman at Audio Labs insisted that the more expensive $500+ Paradigm PS-1000 was the perfect match. Well, after reading the reviews on this site for the PS-1000, I am glad I didn't cough up the dough for one. I must also add that that salesman really left a bad taste in my mouth -- but not for the recommendation. He was an absolute jerk to me when we talked about "internet sales" (I had mentioned I purchased a DVD Player from Ubid). He went on and on about how it's "An all-out war" between internet sales and dealers. He bragged about how he likes to "stick it to" and delay service to people who bring in internet-purchased Denon and Paradigm products for service. No kidding!

He said, "People come in here, take up my time listening to our product, then buy it at a cheaper price on the net. Then when they need service for it, they expect me to help them. So I tell them it'll be 2 weeks before we can get to it. Then I let it sit around for a while, and eventually charge them extra above their warranty amount to make up the difference in what they said they saved buying over the net. They owe me that money for the time I spent demo'ing the product for them."

Well, I could go on and on. I'm a little p.o.'ed at that guy for talking down to me like that. And he expects me to buy from him? Or the dealership he works for??? I wonder if his boss knows he's talking like this to customers.

Well, since Paradigm backs dealers like this and allows them to be so cocky, and charges 40% more for their product in the USA than Canada (and doesn't allow Canadian dealers to sell to us here), I decided to look at other subs. So I looked at the reviews here, and decided to go with the cheap Sony.

I am happy with the value! It isn't an earthshaker by any means, but it does add some extra thump to your movie listening experience. The fact that it can't keep up (speed-wise) with my Mini-Monitors makes it an underperformer purely for audio, but theater-listening is improved once you dial it in and place it correctly.

I own an Onkyo TXDS-575, and am playing around with different "BIG" and "SMALL" settings for my mains and center speaker. I'm not sure what I like yet. For some things, it's better to set it to "BIG" and let the Mini-Monitors handle all but the lowest of bass notes. This masks the speed difference problem a bit. But it really depends on the material. I will probably leave my sub off when listening to non-concert music.

So overall, I am happy. I wasn't expecting to match performance with my Paradigms of course. This sub is a great value, but it's not THAT great! If you have average department store JBL's, SONY's, or similar main speakers, you will probably enjoy this great value even more.

Strength:

Tight clean bass, Goes down to 15hz ( does 15hz @109dB )
Thunderous bass, sounds better then my old Velodyne CT-120.
This thing rocks it has super solid bass.
Verry Musical unit

Weakness:

none

This sub is the best deal in the world for only $199 you get a $2000 sound.
This sub sounds great for music & home theater i have it hooked up to my new Pioneer Elite VSX-39TX 7.1 A/V reciever and the sub blends in well with my Paradigm monitors.
The only thing you should do when you get this sub is take out the woofer and then fill the cabinet up with polyfill or fibreglass to dampen the sound it will increase bass output and make the sound cleaner & smoother.
When wathcing the Mummy the bass was loud deep & clean it had more bass output then a Velodyne VT-120 which is hard to believe.
I am going to buy another one of these great subs before there gone out of the market.
My friend Mike Knapp how is famous for his reviews ect...
Likes this sub too.
The velodyne will have a better sound for music but the sony will whip its ass in home theater.
Great sub gooooooo bye one now
