Strength:

Quality craftsmanship, durable switches, doesn't need to work hard to obtain deep & smooth bass, relatively long power cord.

Weakness:

None so far

As a mild audio enthusiast, I wanted a good subwoofer addition to my home theater at a reasonable cost. I was looking at either 8" or 10" subwoofers on the market, and I test drove some that I thought would fit the bill. I went to a respectable audio seller in the area and listened to the Phase Tech's, Definitive Technology's, and the Paradigm's. To my disappointment, the Phase Tech's and Definitive Technologies were poor performers. Lots of muddy sound and rattles! The Paradigm's sounded beautiful, with rich, deep bass, but commanded higher prices.
Test listening the Velodyne CT-100 , I was really impressed with matched performance to the Paradigm PS-1000. The Velodyne was able to really belt out the low frequencies with stunning performance. The Velodyne CT-80 was a great subwoofer, but was really pumping hard to put good sound out. The Velodyne can be a little over-powering, but easily adjusted. Room placement is a matter of trial and error. I purchased a 24' Monster cable to allow me to place the sub in several locations to find the "sweet spot" (which ended up being right behind the TV, tucked in a corner).
The Velodyne's strength's are it's quality construction, and raw performance. I like action movies, and the low bass this sub puts out is amazing. I don't like window shattering bass, but I want to experience an explosion, not just hear it. The Velodyne makes it real.
Thanks to all who did a review on this Velodyne as it helped greatly in my research!

OH MY GOD,I WILL NEVER NEED ANOTHER SUB. SAY WHAT YOU WANT TO BUT THE CT-100 IS THE SHIZZNIT.IF YOU'RE JUST BUILDING UP YOUR SYSTEM OR LOOKING FOR A BETTER SUB LOOK NO FUTHER THE BASS IT PRODUCES IS LIKE NONE OTHER, ITS UNEXPLAINABLE. I CAN'T EVEN TURN IT 1/8 OF THE WAY UP BUT IF I DID, IT WOULD STILL HAVE THAT QUALITY BASS(NOT THAT MUFFLED SOUND) IF YOU DON'T DO VELODYNE ACOUSTICS YOU MADE THE WRONG STEP IT REALLY PUTS THE .1 ON YOUR SYSTEM

Strength:

Strong bass, warm sound, awesome sound for home theatre, best for price - no comparisons!

Weakness:

Bass can be overpowering at times

I added this sub to my Polk Audio home theatre RT1000 (powered with 80 wt internal woofers), RT400, and CS245 center channel. To say it made a world of difference would be an understatement. I love the sub and the price just can't be beat. Now if this were the HGS series, I'd have to say the price may not be worth it. This one is a steal!

Strength:

Blends well with main speakers (and whole system for Home theater).

Weakness:

None for the price

I first purchased the Paradigm's PDR-10 as recommended by my dealer. I found that it was difficult of placement and not powerful enough for my needs.
I returned it and bought the Velodyne CT-100 at another dealer. I do not regret this purchase one bit. It intergrates very well with my main speakers. It does not have the bottom that I have heard on the Paradigm's Servo 15, but the Servo is also 3 times more expensive. I could not justify paying so much for the Servo.

The CT-100 is relatively easy to position. I tried a few locations in my living room and the bass still comes out loud and clear. I rarely turn the volume up past 9 o'clock position. I also found the bass performance for HT improved by setting all my HT speakers to small on my receiver and just let the sub handle the bass.

Get a good interconnect for this sub. I had a cheap cable at first and was not satisfied with the sub's performance. I then bought a new one from Straighwire and was impressed by the difference it made.

This sub represents an excellent purchase for me.

This sub is great. I went to circuit city with the full intention of buying an infinity BU-120. The salesman had the two subs in the listening room driven by an Onkyo Amp. After listening to the velodyne first, and experience diesel power bass no matter where I stood in the room, I found that the infinity just didn't have the right stuff. Velodyne makes a darn good speaker: smooth sounds, veluptious manipulation of low-end freqs. I give this speaker my highest mark.
Buy a Velodyne if you are thinking about buying an infinity. Oh yeah, one more thing... This sub teamed up with infinity's RS-5 speakers produces a phenominal audio experience.

Strength:

PURE, POWERFUL BASS

Weakness:

For people had no experience for setting up a sub, it may be difficult to them in the beginning.

I just got it as my X'mas gift form my wife. I did got a very good deal at Future Shop, the brand new one for it is Can$ 649.99 and I got a brand new "open -Box" for only $499.99(it's brand new from the other guy's return because it's wrong gift! ).

I like the sound quality, I did compare between the JBL & same brand CT-80 model. The CT-100 is more powerful and have better bass sound quality, it's sound is quicker, more powerful, tighter, and cleaner.

I only had Sony mini system w/ Dolby Pro-Logic build in. The reason I bought it because I want more bass for my movies and pop music, the CT-100 works very good for the small mini system. I did hear a lot more details that I did not hear before after I install it. The only problem was, it took time to set-up the proper level, roll-off freq. and location. I still working for tuning it up. I really like it a lot, thanks my wife again.....

Strength:

DEEP, DEEP, SMOOTH BASS

Weakness:

Adjusting between music and movies

I initial bought the CT-80 thinking the room size was perfect for the sub, but after upgrading to the CT-100, there was no comparison. Every CD and movie revealed new sounds. Having Bose AM-10 speakers, the CT-100 definately filled the void of no bass, yet it still complements the AM-10 speakers without over-powering the mid-range. Awesome sub!!

I've have this sub for six months now but did not come to appreciate ituntil yesterday. I moved it to another corner in my house and man did it
make a night-and-day difference! The slams are very defined now and the
depth of the bass did improve.

Got it for 429 with cable as bonus.

4 stars before the move. 5 now.

Strength:

Tight bass - good features.

Definitely the best buy in my entire system.

Tight powerful bass from a modestly priced 10" sub.

Plain but excellent construction.

A bit sluggish at times, but nothing else in this price class can even come close.

I purchased my CT-100 sub about three weeks ago. Unbelievable sound. Solid, tight bass that allows you to actually hear the instrument as opposed to just a lot of "boom" (bass guitars are especially impressive). I traded in the CT-80 for this one. Here's a hint...spend the extra $100! The CT-80 at it's highest setting couldn't match the CT-100 at less than half-power, and lacked most of the features (ie anti-clipping circuitry). Somewhat directional with the roll-off set at 85Hz, but not intrusive or distracting. Whatever my receiver throws at it, the sub takes completely in stride. Next upgrade is a Yamaha 995 receiver and a set of B.A. main/center/surrounds.Anybody tried that combo already? i haven't laid out the cash. E' me!
