Strength:

Awesome power, clean down to 25Hz, rear panel construction

Weakness:

Looks and rubber feet on bottom

Excellent sub for the money. I use if for both movies and music and am satisfied with both. It makes my windows rattle.... on the other side of the house.

Strength:

Home theatre performance. Low price.

Weakness:

A bit limited musically, but this is a minor issue.

An outstanding HT sub, cannot be beat at this price point. I encourage you to get the CT12 over the CT10 - I found this one on the clearance rack (used older model with full warranty) at $10 cheaper than a 10" Velo on sale - The extra bass output makes a world of difference in moderate to large rooms.

Goes very low, without distortion - you must be somewhat conservative with the volume on this thing, it will rearrainge your furniture.

For HT on a budget buyers, here is your sub.

System it is on -
Denon AVR 2801 receiver
Pioneer Elite C36 DVD player
DKD front channel speakers (old..)
Infinity bookshelf rear channels
Yamaha AC40X center channel

Strength:

Hard, Accurate Bass

Weakness:

Plays VERY differently with feet on the bottom then without. very definitely NOT video shielded.

Wow, what a deal for the money! I got one of these out of box at Circuit City and I couldn't be happier with it. Bass is well defined and punchy, with no muddy sound. (see Polk) They have one of these out of box every time I'm there for around $350, you just can't beat that if you want good sound for a mid-grade system (and budget).

As I said in my 'weaknesses' section, this sub will play very differently with the little rubber feet as opposed to letting it sit flat on the floor. When I purchased the CT-120, it only had 3 feet, so i was pretty much forced to rip them off and let it sit flat. It still sounded great, but bass was boomy, almost annoyingly so during movies. I recently bugged Circuit City for another foot, superglued them on and sat it on a solid slab of wood on my living room carpet. (I had heard that placing it on something solid would make it go lower) The change was dramatic! I had to turn the sub up to get the same level of output, but bass was much more tight and defined. Movies no longer sound boomy and after cranking it up a few levels I've reached a good equilibrium between bass authority and definition.

Also, it's important to note that this guy SHOULD NOT BE PLACED ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR TV. Holy interference! Get yourself atleast a 3 meter sub cable so you don't end up cooking your poor tv.

Strength:

Sound, No distortion, great for music, and great price!!!

Weakness:

None

I bought this sub because I needed something to handle the low end stuff in movies!!! My other sub Yamaha YST-SW150 could not real deep bassy scenes. It was good with music but not with movies. So, I was looking for a new sub. I listened to the B&W ASW1000 and it was a real good sub but the Velodyne sounded just as good and for less money. The 12 inch woofer on the Velodyne can handle music with ease and movies are just downright scary. This thing can handle bass easliy.

Yesterday, I put in the Haunting and this thing shook the house. I have the Velodyne CT120 hooked up to my Marantz SR5000 and the Volume set at 70 (db?). I took out my SPL meter and during some real bassy scenes it hit 104db with no problem!!!! If you want to get a quality sub and not have to spend a ton of money get the Velodyne CT120.

I guess you can say i didn't know what a decent sub sounded like till i heard this one.I have had subwoofer2(CAMBRIDGE)sucked.A pioneer 100 it seemed to go dead after three days no sound. So one day while in san fran.i stopped into curcuit city to hear the baby brother CT100 but found i like the better bass comming from the CT120 it real smooth with music and can wake up a movie soundtrack and the plus it helped my RT16s sound better than i ever heard them sound. It mat not be servo like the bigger brothers in the upper class but for the 640.00 out the door i paid i'm happy.

I picked this sub up about 10 days ago.
I considered a variety of Subs, but I wanted to keep the price near $500. This is my first sub purchase. So, it was a learning experience. As I auditioned a few subs, I came to the conclusion that placement might have more effect on the sound than anything else. A sub would sound great in one store and the same sub would sound so-so in another.

I bought this sub from a dealer that I liked and it sounded very impressive in his showroom. It didn't sound as good as the HGS models, but I didn't want to spend the extra $$$$.

Ok, I got the sub home and got it hooked up. I am using the sub-out of my Onkyo 656. It sounded good, but a little boomy. I moved it out from the wall about 3 more inches. Ok, this is better. I tried the subwoofer direct feature. I thought this added some midrange muddiness. I eventually set the low-pass filter to a little over 60Hz. The volume is a little over 2. I like this sound a lot. On music with bass solos, the response seems to be very smooth. The mid-range on my NHT SuperOnes is still very smooth. I don't think that the bass is as tight as the more expensive subs, but acoustic bass instruments very much maintain their character.

I also considered the HSU Research subs, and I might have gone that way, but they eliminated the 150watt amp on TN1225HO, this pushed the price up to around $750. Probably an excellent sub at that price...but beyond my budget. Anyway Dr Hsu recommended another location for a sub in my room. I will probably try this location someday, but I am very happy with the sound that I am getting now.

Are there better subs out there, yes. At this price? I doubt it. Put your efforts into positioning and set up. If you want great, but can't afford fantastic sound, you will be happy with this sub. I'll give it 5 stars.

I just recently purchased my sub-woofer, because I felt my DVD movies were lacking the intense sounds of my action packed movies. I wanted something that would compliment my Klipsch speakers and they are a perfect match.

Well from the jump I wanted a Hsu Research TN1225HO to accompany my JBL-181's in my DVD theater. Dr. Hsuraised his TN1225HO up from $575 to $800 delivered. Im sure this sub lives up to the $800 its worth. But
The Velodyne CT-120 at $520, is for the price, worth it. It has an output of 25Hz at 87 decibels < 10%
distortion. For a small theater room (12' X 15') it rumbles everything in the room. As I write this Im listening to the DVD "Cliffhanger and its more than adequate. Sure I guess you could really tear down the walls with the Hsu, but is tearing down the walls really that nessesary?

I Replaced my JBL sub with a CT120. This sub sounds great with my home theater as well as music. Bass is tight and powerful, though not to boomy. This was a major upgrade in sound quality. Can't beat it for $539.00. I recommend highly!

Strength:

Price to performance.

Weakness:

Big box

I have this unit in my audio system. The room is 18'X 24'.
This unit fills the room with good solid low bass. The CT-120 in an entry level product from Velodyne. Construction is sold. sound is very good, clean and clear for this type of subwoofer. The primary use is for home theater, it works very well in audio only applications. This subwoofer will get very loud if you want it to.

I would recomend this subwoofer to people looking for a good solid subwoofer.
