Strength:

Tight deep bass. Appearance and variety of controls

Weakness:

None so far

I recently purchased this subwoofer and I am thoroughly impressed. For the price it is sweet. Blows all other woofers in same range away. My whole living room shakes when i watch a DVD movie, it is smooth. I dont have alot of fancy equipment either, but i love feeling the bass when watching movies and like tight bass for CD listening. I am using a Pioneer 608DX receiver with an infinity center speaker, JBL rear surrond speakers, and 12" Cerwin Vegas as front speakers. System combined sounds awesome. One warning if room is average size be carful what you put on walls. I have gas fireplace and the front of it rattles when subwooofer is less than half way up. Circuit City offers this sub woofer fro right around 500. look for sales.

I bought this Velodyne about 5 months ago and i think it`s the best sound for minimal money and the sound knocks out other subwoofers under 1200 dollar´s. My best bye so far.

I just bought the CT120 after listening to many Sub Manufactors. I can anly say that this speaker delivers one of the smoothest bass abd sound effects for home theater I have heard for the money. I was looking at subs in the $1000 range that did not match this subs performance. It is also a good sub for music also. I am a Polk Audio fan but I gad to give up Polk when it came down to this sub. Great Speaker. Lisiten to one.

Hey,
what is wrong with Bret Dark? Is he deaf? First off, if you go to ebay and look up velodyne there are not that many CT series subs listed maybe 1 or 2. Their are 10 times as many klipsch, vegas, and jbl's listed for sale. This subwoofer was even rated one of the best for the price in Audio Magazines because of it's ability to get under 20hz if setup right. I got an awesome deal on this puppy, including free shipping and a 5 year warranty. I had a regular rca cable connected for a few months and it sounded awesome for all types of listening and watching movies. I then upgraded to a Monster Cable Z100 sub cable and this baby is on fire. I recommend everyone to get that cable. The CT-120 blows away a lot of bigger and higher priced subs on the market. I know that we are entitled to our own opinions but if you scroll through all of the reviews on this sub, you'll see who knows what they are talking about and who doesn't. Hint.. Hint.. Bret Dark!

My setup includes:

Sony 555ES Receiver
Sony 530D DVD
JBL ND310 Fronts
JBL N26 Rears
JBL N-Center
Velodyne CT-120 Sub

Everrything is running off Monster Cable

I recently upgraded my home theather. I was once an cutting edge consumer in the home theater world, but marriage, job, and first house took me away for a while.
This past weekend I purchased a Velodyne CT-120 sub and a Sony 945 receiver (look for that review seperately). I had a nice 36" TV and decent quality Pinnacle speaker system with a passive sub. What used to have bass in my apartment had nothing in my large listening room (i.e. family room). This room was an addition to the house and is roughly shaped like home plate in a baseball game. Ceilings go as high as 17 feet, and the room opens up into the traditional living room. Long story short, this has more cubic space than I can calculate.
I found that I was not really into watching movies at home like I used to. Then I happened to stop by an old friend's house who had a THX certified system. I relalized what I was missing - bass. No impact makes movies less appealing.
After much research, I purchased the 120 and added it to my system. I keep my Pinnacle speakers (minus passive sub) and added a dolby digital receiver.
I am now a movie lover again. The 120 puts off so much bass, I am simply stunned. I had to redo my bar in my house to ensure no bottles were touching - they rattled. Everything in the house rattles. On top of sheer power - the bass sound so good. Tight when called for, booming when called for. Everything. For music, it must be tamed or your house will fall down. For movies, it is unreal. Everything has more details.
For $500 it is the best. Nothing in this price range touches it (at least nothing I was able to hear - Polk, Inifinity, JBL, bose). I hear people say it is good for the money and I must laugh. I cannot image needing any more bass - for any application. I would not think you would ever need more than this guy backed into a corner.
Setup:
Connected with monster cable sub connect. Sub internal crossover set to play anything up to 120 - which is what I have the receiver set to send to it, the rest going to the other speakers (that sound so good now). Auto power. Level setting to about 60-70%. Setup time - about 1- minutes.

Everything you hope to get when you buy that subwoofer

I thought back when I got the CT 100, it would be the last sub I would want. I loved that sub. But something was eating me - I just thought "why not spend that extra $90 and upgrade to the bigger driver, bigger magnet, bigger amp...". I sought feedback on the message boards, and it seemed clear - if you can afford it you should have it - worth the difference in money.

So I did it. In fact, when I got around to it, it was back up to $529 at Circuit City (it had been $489).

I am so happy with the sub that I don't care about the extra $40 one bit (but I will drop in over the next week or so to make sure they don't drop the price back down before 30 days are up).

Anyway, maybe THIS will be that last sub I ever want, but I guess there's always the CT 150 waiting...

I expected that music would be somehow slower (harder to move 12" than 10"?). Boy was that ever wrong. The music on the CT 120 sounds much better to me than the CT100 did (nothing against CT100).

Awesome sub - you'll never be sorry, even if you don't find it on sale. Get it!

Strength:

Works well with music and movies, flexible input & adjustment options.

Weakness:

Mine was a little fragile...

As a former car audio installer with a taste for what bass really means, I am pleased with the CT-120. It gets low, it gets loud, but it seldom gets in the way.

But...

I managed to blow mine up the other day with track 17 of Techmaster P.E.B.'s first album. Doh! I'm annoyed that a sub with an integrated amp would do this -- isn't this what protection circuitry is for? Still, this takes nothing away from the fact that this is a muscular and musical sub that is well worth what I paid for it.
