sorry folks,I meant 319.00 at sam`s.Yes the two TV`s are the same but the remotes are not.read all the hitachi reviews they all apply. The hitachi remote is very small, with even smaller buttons with grey on black lettering.I took it back to sam`s and went to best buy and got another panasonic, the panasonic remote lights up and also controls the dvd,and direct tv w/guide menues.which the hitachi does not.I was suprised to see this TV on sale for 334.00.read other reviews about geometrey, they are correct, there is a bowtie effect.all in all i still believe its a good buy.

Strength:

Price, inputs, somewhat flat screen, somewhat universal remote.

Weakness:

A squeel that is linked to the picture on screen.

Good TV, good picture. The only complaint I have is about this annoying squeel sound that comes from the TV. It varies with the picture. Some people notice it and some don't. Though I have solved the problem by switching off the TV speakers and using external speakers using the A/V receiver I believe this is a problem with the model. I have seen other mention this in this site earlier. I did use the remote to control the basic functions of my DVD player, VCR and Cable until I bought a Yamaha 5240 which has a better (if not the best) universal remote.

Strength:

Lots of features for a 27" tv (component, s-vid, 2 AV front & rear, 3-line digital filter, 600 picture lines, fixed or variable audio out, Panablack tube, good crisp picture, good universal remote).

Weakness:

None so far.
Minor: perhaps separate audio input for each s-vid & composite (rear input has audio+ composite+ s together)

Very satisfied. For about U$300 (demo model), it has good crisp clear picture with great contrast & real black for dark scenes. (I did need to adjust it to my taste by increasing brightness & contrast).

My goal was to get a reasonably good tv, without spending too much $, to improve system until the HDTV's got a little cheaper (they were still hard to find & very $$ in Canada. Also component input for DVD, s-vid for digital cable.

It had one of the best pictures of all 27" under CAD$1000 (about U$675) TV's. I went to 4 stores all with a good selection & looked at LOTS of models of JVC, SONY, HITACHI, TOSHIBA, RCA... The tube is less curved than most (other than flat TV's). Picture better than the Sony flat screen.

I have to admit that there was one TV that was I did think was better -the JVC L'Art (also has 3line digital filter..) but it was $950CAD (U$600). A new Sony model (Wega XBR?) is even better but also much more expensive.

I read the problems below yesterday (after I bought the TV). So last night I was worried & looked carefully for the 'bow tie' & multi-colored lines -but my picture looks good.
Must have had fixed problem or sufficient quality control.

Strength:

Great Picture, Decent Simulated Surround, Great Price

Weakness:

The volume is hard to adjust because there is incrementally to much volume between settings.

I have this TV and love it, I have none of the above mentioned problems ie: green and pink lines during DVD's, pincusion problems, etc. I bought this TV in March, so maybe Panasonic has corrected these issues. I shopped for a great 27 inch, and this was definately the best value. Front inputs, component input, S video, good remote, - even when its not using my reciever the sound is very good.
A+++!

Strength:

- Crisp picture
- Vivid color
- Organized menu

Weakness:

- Green/pink/green/pick off-color bands
- Bowtie effect

I just would like to let you know my experience with this tv set. I loved this tv and it broke my heart that I had to return it.

I tried THREE different sets of this model. They all had the same discolorization problem. I also tried a CT27D30. It had the same problem too. Don't have to mention about the display items. I also played around with a CT27D20 display set. They ALL had the discolorization problem. So, I don't think this is a fluke. (Note that the discolorization I
had was noticable when watching it via a/v, s-video, or component inputs.)

Besides, all four of mine had the bowtie effect. One of them had geometric distortion--the screen was slant wayyyy to the right. Anyway, I believe this can be fixed by servicing. From the above reasons, I believe these are why you can see the prices for these PanaBlack models drop dramatically.

Actually, I like this Panasonic. It gave me everything I want--component input, crisp picture, vivid color, and more--with low price. However, after I watched it with a few DVDs, I told myself that I had to go with something else. The green/pink/green/pink bands really drived me nut. Finally, I ended up with a Philips. It totally blows this Panasonic away! By the way, this would be a good tv set for the price if you don't use it to watch DVD!

Weakness:

serious pincushion and geometry problems; green-pink bands

Eventhough I knew about some of the problems this tv had, I bought it because similar models of other brands were not available in Puerto Rico or were just significantly more expensive than this one. As soon as I turned it on, I noticed the ridiculous pincushion and geometry problems. I noticed them quickly because when I accessed the guide of my cable box, not one line was straight. There is a bowtie effect towards the bottom and left & right edges of the screen. It will drive you nuts when viewing a channel with stock info, such as Bloomberg TV. Then I started to adjust the picture, and when I cranked the brightness to 55 (I like a lot of brightness)and switched to a video input not being used (a black screen appears) I saw the color bands. There is a dark band to the left, followed by a wider clear band next to it, followed by a dark one and then a clear one again. I became suspicious and quickly played a DVD and on some scenes, where there is fixed color background, this bands looked green-pinkish-green-pinkish...they are definitely there. A technician came over and, using the service manual, could not fix the geometry and pincushion problems. And yes, the color bands are not fixable! He already was aware of that defect and as soon as I started to tell him what was wrong he told me that. ALL of them have it; its a defect. I returned it and decided to pay the extra bucks for the flatscreen JVC 27F802.

Bottom-line: if you don't watch a lot of dvd's and don't have a cable guide (so that you won't notice the bad geometry) it may be a good value.

You to can get the service codes at Keohi.com. Be Carefull and be sure to write down all the values BEFORE you adjust Anything. After awhile you`ll have it mastered. However while you can change pincussion values it has no effect on the picture.Good Luck ,jj

I Have the servive codes and you CANNOT adjust the pincusion, just have to live with it . I`m used to it but panasonic should fix this problem. I believe the problem lies in the glass tube itself, its distorted at the left and right edges, They ALL have this bowtie effect and there is NO Fix !! I have not seen the pink lines YET! Price dropped to $299.00 at best buy. Overall this tv is ok its not perfect but i havent seen a PERFECT picture yet on ANY tv, some come close, if geometry being off will drive you nuts dont get this tv,i can live with it ,

Weakness:

PINCUSHION GIVES ME THE BOE TIE EFFECT!!! but im taking it in. panasonic said its easily reparible and shouldnt take long to fix, its just a minor adjustment.

Other than the pincushon problem I LOVE THIS TV!!! its GREAT for videogames!!! i dont have a problem with pink lines or any other geometry problems besides the pincushion. dvds are incredibly sharp and the remote is so easy to use! the remote sensor isnt sensitive enough though. you have to point the remote directly at the tv. The sound is acceptable but the surround makes the music so loud that you cant hear the voices. Im giving it 4 out of 5 just because of the inconvience of taking it in to get the pincushion repaired.

Strength:

Lots of Inputs, Good Picture, Good Price

Weakness:

None that I have seen

So far so good. I have not noticed any of the problems mentioned below, although I'm still waiting on a dvd player to hook up via component input. I use my receiver for sound, and universal remote (Onkyo 575x) so those were not issues with me. My digital cable box is connected through S-video and the picture is great. In my mind an excellent purchase.
