Strength:

Picture, flat screen cuts glare tremendously

Weakness:

None (other than a bit heavy)

This review is actually about the sucessor model, the KV32FS12.

I think that the picture on this set is better than any I have ever seen. I have this connected to a Sony DVP-650D DVD player thru the component video jacks and the picture is amazing. The picture from regular cable is fine, too, but I notice that my older Sony set masks the cable defects a bit better -- the Wega is just too good a reproducing the signal given to it, good or bad (this is a minor complaint -- the picture is still great using cable).

The sound is adequate for cable. I have this unit connected to a HT setup so DVD sounds do not come thru the TV speakers.

Make sure that you have the cables that are to be plugged into the back marked and ready to go when you get this unit delivered (and delivery of a 176 lb TV is NOT a luxury!) because once you have this thing positioned it will be a real chore to move.

All in all, a very, very good TV.

Strength:

Astonishing Clarity. Gorgeous color. Nice looking when off. Smooth sound.

Weakness:

Give me a year to think!

This is a gorgeous TV! I could not beleive how superb my DVD's looked. Love the color and clarity. I cannot agree with the previous review on this product. My lines are as straight as an arrow vertically and horizontally. The Toshiba 36" I looked at had bent horizontal lines esp. at the top. I love the flat screen and so many Menu options inc. switing off the Velocity Modulation Scanning. Bravo Sony....you have created a classic!

Strength:

Excellent picture. Pre-set selectable picture settings for sports, movie, standard or vivid viewing. Great value.

Weakness:

Manual explanations are poor; however menu on screen adjustments are simple to operate.

This is the best picture quality I have seen outside of HDTV high priced sets. The TV tube is encased in cast iron, thus the set is heavy. The sound is excellent even with 10 watts vs. the 15 watts in the more expensive model. Since sorround sound can be added (80 watts), this is not a major drawback. There is'nt any picture in picture in this model, but unnecessary in my opinion. The pre-select picture settings is a wonderful idea and allows for easy picture altering demanding upon personal tastes. The screen is almost "glare-free" which is the major reason we bought this TV. During daylight viewing, the picture is excellent even with considerable sunlight reflecting on the screen. I highly recommend this set and hope it gives good long service life consistent with the Sony reputation.

EVERYONE READ THIS!

I have read almost every review about the KV-32FS12 on this site and others. I see an alarming trend, bad reviews inspired by random defects. Not many people seem to understand the process a television set goes through to be manufactured and then shipped to it's final destination. Needless to say there is plenty of slamming, bumping, and dropping involved. Its almost a miracle that any television can make it through this process without noticable damage. So, don't try to blame Sony when your geometry is off, or the colors are skewed. Almost half of these defects can be fixed by adjusting some settings on the electron guns. Its OK to complain and suggest new things for manufacturers to do in the future, that is what makes product improvement so quick. The WEGA is a result of 70-80 years of hard work and research, so rather than feeling negative about it, you should be damn appriciative of how good it and other televisions are!

Strength:

Picture quality, flat screen, onscreen menu

Weakness:

Weight

Finally after reading many horror stories about the WEGA TV I broke down and purchased the flat screen. So far so good. Hopefully with having a Sept. 99 manufactured date the previous bugs are gone. I will post again if the bugs appear.

Strength:

Great Picture overall

Weakness:

on left side, on dark background, light appears on left side where it should be black.

I love Sony Products. My entire sound system is Sony. I have had my 32" Wega for about (3) weeks now. I had to adjust the tilt to 3+ to even out the picture - most noticeable on letterbox or weather channel stations available on my satellite.
The strangest thing, however, is that on a black background, where the screen should be entirely black (as the background goes) all the way down the left side, it appears light is trying to creep in. As if there is a light on outside the picture viewing area.
Has anyone else experienced this?

The picture is awesome other than that. I don't think my wife has even noticed. Any feedback?

Strength:

On SOME sources-a great picture.Good menu

Weakness:

Very inconsistent picture quality varies with source.Cost, weight,Geometry problems.

I was hoping for a lot better TV than this, especially considering the price.I use it with WEB TV,so straight lines are important. Both of the FS12s I tried in home had curved lines that were very bothersome.WEB TV looked awful,as did any scrolling effects like the stock ticker on CNBC.On the very best sources, this TV is a little better than the 36" Toshiba 36A40 I ended up with. But on MOST sources the Toshiba is better and I got the 36" for $330 less than the 32" WEGA.The flat screen is over rated. It looks concave and is actually worse for glare.I have a lamp whose glare hit the middle of both TVs.On the flat screen it's image appeared to be about 10" x 12" in size.On the Toshiba it is about 2" x 3".The slight curve of the screen makes reflections much smaller.
The Sony also ha a problem with any kind of graphics or lettering, making them appear "buzzy" or electrified without good sharpness.Sports off of a big dish satellite direct feed were only fair on the Sony, while on the Toshiba (and my old Sanyo) they are sensational. This TV has much potential, but it is unrealised in it's current state.Highly over-rated!Save your $$ until Sony gets the many bugs out, unless the occasional great picture makes it worthwhile.

*almost unnoticeable band on left edge of screen. weight? chaaa..

I have nothing but good things to say about this television. Everything from picture quality to the ever expansive *tweaking* that can be done. My set up consists of a Sony DVP-C650D DVD player connected via component hook ups by Better Cables. Picture quality, depth and realisim is fantastic! Also wired is a Dish Networks receiver. Again as with the DVD player, picture quality is second to none. If you have the green to drop, Id say go for it! The flat screen is really worth the extra bucks. Youll see, friends and family alike will all be jealous!
