Strength:

Picture quality
Flat screen
Amount of inputs (component, s-video)

Weakness:

Older model doesn't support 16:9 enhance mode even if you access the service menu, that option (VUSN) doesn't even exist.

I bought this TV last year and have used it extensively with no problems. I watch DVDs using component inputs and the picture quality is great. Like everyone else have said before, go buy or rent Video Essentials or AVIA so you can calibrate your TV to its fullest potential. At first it was very hard for me to get used to the darker image and the lack of sharpness (I turned my sharpenss setting to only 3 or 4) but after getting used to it, everything else seems very artificial. I now watch DVDs in almost complete darkness (like in the movie theater) and the picture just blows me away, I only wish for more picture instead of the black bars on the top and bottom of the TV.

My only gripe about this TV is just recently I found out there's a way to get into the service menu so you can turn on the 16:9 enhanced mode newer WEGAs have built in their menus. I tried it and the option to do it wasn't there. This makes me mad because this would add more resolution to the already beautiful picture and make the whole experience of watching DVD more enjoyable. Sony scammed us on this one!!! BAD!!!

Strength:

Excellent Picture quality.

Weakness:

Weight.

This review is for KV-32fs12 model, Sony, WEGA.

I have had this TV for a month now, excellent TV, picture is sharp and clear. Using component output for DVD and picture is awsome. I have not noticed any geometry problems on this TV although I have seen horizontal line while playing DVD, they appear and disappear, if any of you have encounter this problem, please let me know if there is any fix. Other than that love this TV, bought it at sears with internet price match.

In my previous post, I've stated that my TV has a geometry problem. What I did was I've call a technician to fix this problem. I've noticed that he access to a secret menu by pressing a few keys on the remote before turning on the TV. He didn't show me how to access it. After the adjustment, the geometry is a lot better now. If anyone know the secret keys to access the special menus (geometry), please send me an email because I think I can still fine tune it a bit more. Thanks.

Strength:

Many!

Weakness:

Poor manual, audio out, geometry, heavy

This KV32FS12 was bought as a replacement for an 8 year old 27" RCA so I am quite impressed with every thing about it. However, since I haven't been exposed to the nuances of this grade of television or DVDs etc. I have many questions concerning the optimization of the unit. The owners manual is really weak and explains none of the fine points. If someone could Email me privately and point me in the right direction for obtaining and using a calibration disc I would greatly appreciate it.
Geometry; I have noticed a slight curving of straight lines near the corners and as many of you have pointed out the picture seemed to be tilted somewhat when it was first setup. This left an area in the upper left corner that seemed to leak random colors. There is an adjustment in the menu that allows the user to correct this. I have also noticed that some sources ,especially sat, produce a small band of these leaking colors all the way across the top, only during dark segments or when the scene is changing. Can this be adjusted out or will an adjustment cause other sources to display this band along the bottom?
Audio out seems to be a little weak as far as the strength of the signal is concerned and I would prefer that I could use the audio out without turning off the TV's speakers.
I jumped in with both feet and bought this TV and my first DVD at the same time so I am still continually amazed at the improvement in picture quality that this system offers.
Pay the extra money to have it delivered and setup unless your mate is a body builder or you are on good terms with the next door neighbor.

Strength:

Sharp, Great Colour, Great Picture, Component Video Input, Flat Screen

Weakness:

Geometry, Cost, Weight, Can't Auto-Set 16:9 mode.

I've just got myself a KV32FS12. This TV is awesome in every way. It produce great colour and picture. The only problem with this TV is the geometry. I've noticed that the vertical line near the edge of the screen is not straight. I am not sure if this is the problem for all Sony TVs. Isthere a way that this can be fix? Please send me an email if you know how to resolve this problem. Thanks.

Strength:

Superb colors, cool on-screen menu, overall aesthetics, above-average sound

Weakness:

screen geometry not perfect out of the box, cruddy warranty

Overall, I think this is a quality t.v. set (KVFS12). I personally like the flat screen better than the other 'normal' types of t.v.s out there. I have only had this set for about 2 weeks, but so far no malfunctions. The screen geometry is not perfect (slight pincushioning on the left side). I was told this was something a professional technician with a sony service manual could fix, so I am planning on getting this done (a free service with the warranty I purchased from 'The Good Guys'). The thing I like best about this t.v. is the excellent colors. The picture quality is overall very good (cable as the source), but not excellent. For the amount of t.v. I watch, spending an extra $800 just wasn't worth it to go to the XBR400 model, especially with the limited amount of HDTV broadcasts right now. The warranty that Sony provides with this set is very minimal (1 year parts, 90 days labor), so I ended up purchasing an extra 5 year warranty (at about $200). I have yet to use the component inputs, but my dvd looks pretty solid with the s-video inputs. I personally think the t.v. is probably a little overpriced, but it is kind of unique when compared to other sets out there.

Strength:

Great color, nice clarity, component video inputs, flat screen

Weakness:

small set top for center channel, overrated anamorphic sqeeze option, way over priced, too heavy

This is a very nice tv set but it is way overpriced. I only bought this tv because of a 10% off sale at sears w/ stand after Thanksgiving. I also got an $80 pricematch with M Wards and $50 more off because of delays in getting it in stock and then $35 more because they paid for delivery because of all the mess and I went and picked it up and then finally $50 more off (in the near future) for applying for a sony card from citibank.
I regret not buying the Toshiba 36A40 to this day. The only reason I didn't exchange it was because of all the discounts I got. To go from a 27" to 32" just isn't an eyepopping jump. It is more of a yawn. A 36" would be much better. The VVega in 36" isn't even worth looking at because you are very close to HD price range so you would be wasting your money. I agree with another reviewer about glare. I get plenty of glare from a lamp and also from my window. From some of these reviews I expected glare to be almost non existant. The picture from my sat is good in s-video. The color is the best thing about this tv. It is awesome. Beautiful. When I play a dvd it already has the black on the top and bottom of the screen so when you anamorphic squeeze it it looks like a little band across my big flat screen. Great clarity and color but at what price. This feature is better when viewing sat because it isn't so darn small when squeezed like it is on dvd. Overall this is a nice tv but the price that it lists for makes its rating drop. This tv should be $799 list and less on sale with the 36" VVegas shoul start at $999. The best value out there is the Toshiba 36A40 going for $799 with component video, 850 lines of horizontal resolution and a beautiful picture. You can get it on sale cheaper and really get a lot for your money. Thats my opinion and recommendation. Save money and get the Toshiba 36A40 for $799 or less or the 32" 32A40 for $599 or less. Use the money you save on a dvd or receiver or take the wife out.

Strength:

Awesome Picture, enough said.

Weakness:

HEAVY, Can't auto-set 16:9 mode

After much deliberation, my wife was actually the one to endorse this TV. Probably because it just looks cool, and it's silver to match our decor. I deliberated between the regular Trinitron 32" and 36", and also the JVC 32" and 36" TVs.

Although I could have got more TV for the money going one of the other routes, the regular Trinitron's lack of Component Video inputs really set me off. I figured I had component video outputs on my DVD, I should at least get a TV that can use them. I would have loved the 36" model, but $1500 is a bit steep for a non-HD tube TV. All this said, I think the extra $200 I paid for the Wega was worth the money. I can't honestly say that the picture is any better than the other TVs, but it is surely AWESOME! The 16:9 enhanced mode is worth every penny of the extra $200 alone, since it allows you to view anamorphic DVDs in their true resulution.

I find it a bit annoying that you need to re-set the 16:9 enhanced mode each time you turn on the TV or switch sources, especially since the option is buried in the menu system. I plan to program a macro into my remote to do this automatically.

All told, I think if you're not concerned about getting the biggest screen, but more concerned about picture quality and styling, this TV is a sure thing!

This is an update of my previous review of the KV32FS12 model. A number of owners have emailed me regarding grainy cable reception on this model. Also Geometry problems have occasionally occured. I have found that normal cable is noisy most of the time, but this TV's Video Amplifier is ruthless at showing it's content. Firstly,if you are using a splitter to receive FM,or running another TV,or PC,purchase the best one you can.Your Cable Company can sell you one,and they have done exhaustive tests on signal loss on these. Secondly, use the finest co-axial cable you can afford to the TV. Dubious Cable quality is like another antenna online, resulting in smearing and noise. The other improvment, depending on your budget is to go to Digital cable, the signal to noise ratio improves considerably. This TV produces fantastic detail but "the wider you open the Window the more Muck flies in". Keeping the signal as pure as possible BEFORE it reaches your TV will make your picture look even greater.
The other area is Geometry. I am lucky with my 2 Wegas as they are perfect here, but there are small self adhesive Trim Magnets available from Sony to straighten lines, especially in corners. I would recommend you ask your Vendor's Technician to install these due to the High Voltage on the back of the tube. I hope the information helps,if anyone has any other questions you can reach me at pduminy@monaco.net I will try to help. PS.Do not over tighten the Cable Connection on the back of this TV as there is a long push-in conector to the TV tuner. If over tightened the indentations on the inside of the back will strip and the conector will rotate, making disconecting difficult.

Strength:

Great picture, unique styling, fantastic menu.

Weakness:

Sheer weight.

After much decision making and agony, I purchased this TV from ONECALL. I had been hesitant to purchase a TV off the internet because of the fact that shipping charges usually kill you on a 200lb package. If you call them and ask for a quote they usually make $100-150 in shipping charges NO PROBLEM with me. Even with the shipping I could not have purchased this TV at a store near me without paying $100 more before sales tax. DVD's are stunning with this unit. I also agree with past reviews that your picture on this TV almost entirely depends on the strength of your signal, whether it be dish or cable. I have also noted the inconvience of the 16x9 mode, with regards to resetting it all the time. My only complaint with this unit appears to be with the screen geometry. When the unit is in a full screen of color, ie dvd screen savers or the blue screens on video 1,2etc, the top left coner seems to pull down making the whole picture out of square. It may be there on regular TV, but it become extremely unnoticable. I will advise here if repairs are made. Otherwise this set is sure to make the consumer feel as though they got one heck of a tv for the money.
