Strength:

picture and sound are great

Weakness:

annoying distortion with lettering that some have noticed. It weighs a ton!

I love this set. I've had it for about a year and with digital satellite it rocks! The picture and sound have never disappointed. It has been very reliable. I don't use the PIP feature, so I can't really speak to that. I have never regretted purcasing it.

I have a question - does anyone know if progressive scan dvd works with this set?

Strength:

Warm, good source of kinetic energy.

Weakness:

Dangerous glass shards, damage that can be caused by the fire.

3 weeks ago I decided that I'd go ahead and purchase this 36" wega. No more than 3 hrs after I set it up, I heard a faint cracking sound. I dismissed it as warming up. I wasn't too far from the truth. 10 minutes later the beautiful 36" wega was sent to the home theater in the sky. I exploded into a thousand flaming shards. Fortunately the only damage was that of my 4 month old baby being decapitated. Other than that, we made out fine. On the other hand, it did give us an amazing picture while it was actually working.

Strength:

VERY CLEAR PICTURE. LOVE THE FLAT SCREEN

Weakness:

VERY LARGE DIMENSIONS. PICK YOUR LOCATION CAREFULLY.

THIS REVIEW IS ALSO A QUESTION. I HAVE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THE TV FOR 18 MONTHS; HOWEVER, JUST RECENTLY, IT WENT BLACK. WHEN YOU POWER IT ON, I HEAR A CLICK AND THE RED "STANDBY" INDICATOR FLASHES, BUT NO PICTURE OR SOUND. ANY ADVICE?

Strength:

Beautiful cabinet, vivid picture, flat screen, good built-in audio

Weakness:

4" dark band on left side of screen, 4" light band on right side

i've had the same problem with band on the sides of the screen as other reviewers. i wish i noticed it before the whopping 90 day (labor) warranty was up, and am considering having a repairman take a look at it. but other than watching widescreen dvd's where the 4" bands are very noticeable, the tv is great. dss and full screen dvd's are unbelievable. playstation is impressive too.

i also have struggled with my sony 550 dvd player (very noisy and slow operation, occasional random screen glitches), so i'm done wasting money on sony.

has anybody figured out what's up with the 4" bands?????

Strength:

Great picture quality, good sound, good control menu.

Weakness:

Very heavy

I was very happy with the set, from the moment I hooked it up. The picture qualiy is great, especially on DVDs. I can't wait until I switch to satellite broadcasts instead of the current cable box. The four picture modes (Standard, Movie, Sports, Vivid) are neat at first, but after a while you just forget about them. The only problem I have, is the infamous white lettering on black background 'venetian blind' effect during a credit roll or something. Overall, this set was great, and I couldn't ask for anything better (besides HDTV).

Strength:

Flat Screen. Built in Speakers. Picture Quality.

Weakness:

Heavy as Sh*t. Silver Finish (IMHO).

Getting the set into my apartment was one of the hardest things that I had to deal with in a long time. Took three of my buddies and I a long time to get it up three sets of windy staircases. I smacked the set into the side of the wall getting it into my apt.

When I first turned on the set, I was instantly impressed by the picture quality and the speakers which played clean and loud (without my stereo). My friends are in awe everytime they come over, and my apt. has been designated as the location for our "movie nights"!!

I would recommend this set to anyone. I have been using it for the past five months without a single problem. When I rearranged my living room, a friend and I almost threw out our backs moving this thing. (Should have called in the reinforcements!)

Not too expensive (Don't pay retail or anywhere near that), and you get what you pay for. Great Item, Loyal Sony Fan.

Strength:

S video in front and back, component video input, fixed/variable level line out

Weakness:

the on screen menus are complicated

I got this tv for a christmas present. It was quite the present indeed. The jaw of each and every one of my friends hit the ground when they saw it. This tv managed to slightly improve the poor cable tv reception in my house and mixed with my signal amp, it has performed quite well. It mixed in very well with my home theater setup without too much extra adjustment aside from jumping from a 20" screen to a 36" screen. The component video input works very nicely with my dvd player but I can't watch anything unless the room is pitch black. This tv was such a jump from the one I snagged from my parents. The multiple inputs are really nice for video game systems and the front panel s-video is great for my friend's playstation. I think that it does very nicely with every source except broadcast tv. I only say this becasue of bad reception in my house though (so I'm a little too biased).

Strength:

good picture if you have a great cable signal

Weakness:

terrible picture on any sporting events, 4 inch darker band from top to bottom on the left side of screen, tried 3 differant dvd players with component RBG inputs on the xbr 250 and v15 and all showed red bands across the screen which sometimes scanned from top to bottom of picture. these wega tv's cannot play component signals I suspect it is a flaw in the component vidio processor which is probably the same in all wegas produced by sony. I did however try the component hook-up to the kp-43T70 which looked great and will return the v15 piece of overpriced garbage. I used sonys top of the line dvd player and great component cables along with marantz's top of the line dvd player so there is no doubt in my mind that all you people who have yet to try your component input are in for a big surprise and I feel for you as sony has really gotten away with a serious quality problem which is a travisty for such a well respected name in the vidio business and mark my words there will be alot of news about this as more people get dvd players and try to use component input number 4.

This is the worst line of televisions sony has ever come out with and will no doubt suffer a huge market loss in the near future as a result, consumers are just too smart these days when it comes to shelling out 1500 to 2000 for a TV!!!

Strength:

overall ,even on (digital)cable.
high WOW! factor.

Weakness:

cost and weight. better have some serious muscle available to move this
bad-boy!(236lbs-theft deterrent?)

after visiting television showrooms and
spending considerable time comparing competing brands(hitachi, panasonic, sony,
and toshiba),my son and I felt that the
flat-screen Sony Wega generally outper-
formed all the others because of the lack of glare and reflection, which made
the color seem more pure and intense. On
DVD,all of the various brands were otherwise quite comparable, and on some
things,like white lettering,the conventional(curved screen)Sony does
better.

Strength:

Superior Picture Quality

Weakness:

I have yet to find one

I have yet to see what all the crying is about with regard to Sony WEGA TV's. Simply, there is no equivalent to this TV. If you do not have a Satellite System or a DVD player of course you are going to be disappointed. Big TV's need a great signal and this TV in particular will show every grain in a sub-standard picture. Naturally you will find some hard core A/V guru with electron microscopes for eyes that has a problem with the picture. But for those of us with normal eyes it looks better than anything out there.

As for the weight, who really cares? Its not like anyone can move any 36" TV alone and this TV is within 30 pounds of any other Big Screen. Split between 2 people its no biggie.

To sum it up it’s the best set I have ever owned. I recommend it highly.
