Heavy!!!! ,small white text hard to read

Damn I love this TV best picture possible when used with DVD's and the Canare component cables. I first bought the Xbr 250 but had geometry probs and black lines when watching widescreen movies so took it back and got this. Unfortunately I paid $1799, how did some of you guys get is so cheap? Anyway best NTSC TV on the market and a great buy.....too HEAVY though!

Movies

Weakness:

Try watching anything else, esp. programs with text such as ballgame scores or stock quotes - Ugh!

Its great if all you do is watch movies, but what I need now is another TV to watch anything else such as Football, ZDTV, Weather Channel, News, etc. because this thing has a soft focus that cant be improved, at least without shelling out another $200 for some Home Theater specialist to make a house call, and then its not certain they can help with anything other than color calibration. So do I send it back or gamble even more money on it? What a rip for such an expensive set.

Strength:

cool design, clear picture while watching movie

Weakness:

is that B or 8 ? Who cares?

Yes, I agree. Very good and cool design (this is why my wife is fully satisfied with this TV) and quite a good quality picture. However, usually, the letters or characters on the corners are distorted, especially the white letters.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem? Is there any way to get into the service mode of this TV set? Please e-mail me to sjyoon@bellatlantic.net. Thanks in advance.

Strength:

the flat screen provides visiblity from the sides without the distortion of the regular tube screen

Weakness:

It is very heavy.

I just bought this set this past weekend and so far i love it. I find it to be very crisp in color. The front panel has hookups for a playstation and/or camcorder with s-video as well, which makes it more convenient to hook-up. It has additional a/v hookups in the back. It is a great tv for a home theatre system. i got it for $1300 on sale after the new year.

Strength:

Great Picture, vivid colors, flat screen reflects the light very well.

Weakness:

Like everyone else mentioned, do some planning and get your location right the first time as it is very heavy.

I have not had any trouble with sporting events or some of the other problems listed earlier. The picture is one of the best that I have seen. The only time that I can see the faint 4 inch band is when the screen is totally black and you can see a very, very faint purple band on the left side.

My set was a floor model and that is why I got such a great price on it. Maybe since it was a floor model it was set up to impress customers and that is why I haven't noticed any flaws with the picture. I can tell you that if your reception coming in is not very good your will see it with this set. I did tweak the picture a little to get the effect that I like which was very easy to do.

I looked at a lot of different models and im my opinion none of them compared to the Sony.

My only complaint is that some of the white lettering scrolling on the screen is not crystal clear. I would not hesitate to recommend this set.

The rear panel is easy to read and has numerous inputs. The sound quality is very good for a tv but I am using a receiver for everything except local stations.

Some people do not care for the remote but I haven't found anything wrong with it. On the other hand most people love the color but I would have preferred a black set if I had the option.

Strength:

Incredible Picture, 16x9 Capability, Picture-in-Picture, Great Look

Weakness:

Maybe a little pricey but that should come down in time (Yeah, it's heavy but what do you expect from a 36" TV. If you complain that it is heavy, maybe you need to get out of your chair and get some exercise in)

I was definitly pleased with this purchase. I got this as an open buy item at Circuit. It still had a high price considering but I'm glad I bought it. I have a Pioneer 525 DVD player and bought component cables to hook it up. INCREDIBLE. The Picture Quality is outstanding. I have yet to get Digital Cable (TV was meant to be free!!!!) but I'm not gonna worry about how that will look.

Strength:

Picture is good

Weakness:

Remote could be more flexible in use

I have used this product for over a year, I to have that problem with any type of white letter scoring on the screen. It isn't clear, expected more. The picture quality is good for cable, I figured upgrading to direct tv(digital) the picture would have to be fantastic. I unfortanetly haven't noticed any real big difference, I am at a loss to explain why. Overall, I haven't had any problems with the unit itself. Would give this TV 3 stars, for the price I expected more.

Picture quality

The picture quality of this tv is quite remarkable especially when watching dvds. I recommend this tv to anyone who is willing to spend about 1700 bucks. I picked mine up during a sale for about 1350 however. I have no complaints and am pleased with Sony's effort in making a good product for once. I give this tv five stars.

Strength:

big, clear

Weakness:

heavy

We picked up one of these at a Sony outlet, and the first one hand significant geometry issues and a green glow (instead of red) in the lower right corner. We traded it back for the showroom model, which has been fine. (ugh, heavy) Risks of outlet shopping I guess. The flat screen is great for viewing above from our loft. color is great. cable reception is much better than any of our other TV's. Geometry is still not perfect, but now I notice how much worse the geometry is on everything else I look at. Large screen seems to expose NTSC color noise more than smaller screens. Hoping reliability isn't an issue, so far so good ...

Strength:

Great picture quality, unique style, high resolution, very good remote.

Weakness:

Heavy

A heavy, but great NTCS TV set. Picture quality can be great if set up properly. Although there has been issues with Sony's quality control (geometry problems), I have not seen any problems as of yet. For people buying any expensive TV set a DVD test disc is mandatory. I've seen too many people come home with their new and expensive TV and fail to realize that their brand new TV has problems.
