Strength:

easy setup, lots of AV jacks

Weakness:

Poor picture quality, NO QC

Bought this TV 15 Months ago. First problem was remote, died after 3 months of minimal use. Second problem unknown, picture has turned B&W and looks like it's almost scrambled. I now have to haul this heavy ass TV to the repairman and await my bill. not much reliablity for a 2K item!!

Excellent Picture, 16x9 Capability, PIP

Weakness:

A little on the pricey side but I'm sure the price has come down by now

Well, I have come to about a year of using this TV, and I am continued to be amazed with it. Since my last review, I have gotten Satellite TV (Go direct cause cable sucks) and new DVD's. In both cases, the pictures are great (satellite uses S-video and DVD uses component and, yes, I think there is a difference!!!). I'm assuming you people who are still complaining about how heavy it is didn't read my last piece of advice: What do you expect with a 36 inch TV that emulates flat screen and can rival HDTV!!!! You may want to reinvest in that Bally's membership instead of working out how many Frito Lay Chips you can stuff in your mouth....

Strength:

Sony KV36FV15 has good color, good sound, movies look great on digital cable, vcr and dvd. remote is fine.design is cool.

Weakness:

the picture tube is slightly distorted on left side of screen. also the color white is a big problem for this Sony. KV-36FV15. white text is often blurry and sports suffer from distortion (especially white lines on the field while watching baseball or football) . it is very annoying at times - also scrolling white letters are wavy gravy most of the time ! this is very annoying especially while watching the white letters on "Jeorpordy", CNN or MSNBC or FOX news covering the war, since the bottom screen scrolling never stops. the Sears repairman said there is nothing that can be done to improve this, I made him look at the left side of the screen and he also noticed that the picture tube itself seems wavy on the left side. I said i wanted a supervisor to call me back about the problem and they never got back to me! Great follow up, thanks for nothing! I had hoped this annoying FEATURE would go away after a while but it has not! (the screen is flat but the picture tube itself is rippled slightly) -the right side is less rippled, I wonder if that is why the white letters are distorted AND fuzzy-- sometimes you can't tell the difference between an 8 and a B. i think i will soon take advantage of my Sears extended warranty and demand a new set- otherwise it is o.k - I think when you pay $1750 plus tax, plus about $200 on an extended warranty you should get a perfect picture, don't you?

Don't walk out of the store without purchasing an Extended Warranty for a high priced heavy item like this - i understand it has to be heavy, 36" and all, but if you have a good warranty you will not have to lug it around town if your covered and it breaks- too bad it has this distortion flaw, otherwise I would give it a higher rating I am sure SONY corp. is working on getting out the bugs, but I wish they would have done this before putting it out on the market. IT IS VERY ANNOYING!!!!

Strength:

Clear picture. Easy setup

Weakness:

None for the money I spent at the time.

This review is really a question! When I bought the series FV15 I knew I was going to set it up with my Onkyo A/v reciever and 600series DVD. I didn't know the FV16 which came out the next year would have 16:9 manually operated aspect ratio. Now here is the question, is there a chip or some way to make the KV36FV15 adapt to the 16;9 set up without having to buy a brand new TV? I have a zoom on my Onkyo DVD that helps alittle but it isn't the same.
If I could get the tv to this mode while watching DVD's I wouldn't be ready to sell it right now while I'm waiting for all of this HD stuff to get worked out and come down in price and up in quanity of availability, even my digital cable isn't really digital yet! Anyhow I just want to watch the DVD's on the full screen.

Strength:

clarity of DVD and digital satelite images

Weakness:

small white text sometimes blurry, don't like the video input at the front

After 10 yrs. with my still-trusty 27" Trinitron, I thought it was time to get a bigger TV. It took 4 delivery people to deliver and position it in my entertainment center. That thing is heavy!

Great picture, especially when watching DVD's and satelite TV, and also when playing videogames on my Playstation. The sound from the built-in speakers is also great.

I noticed that while I am using the "standard" viewing mode, some small white text can be blurry at times. Switching the mode to "movie" makes the text clearer. I am easy to please, so I just consider this a minor nuisance.

Another nuisance I have with this TV is the video input at the front of the TV set. First of all, this TV has 4 video inputs, one of them a component input. I have many video sources, none of them have component video output, and I could use all the TV inputs I can get. I don't like to see patch cords permanently attached to that front video input. So I am forced to use the 2 remaining inputs in the back. I wish I could be able to use all 4 of those video inputs.

Great TV overall. I only gave the value rating 4 stars because, like with most Sony products, I feel I am paying extra for that Sony name. I'm sure Sony could price this at around $1000 only.

Bought at local retailer at $1299 brand new in the box. Very satisfied with the flawless performance. Hooked it up with my Toshiba 3109 DVD player created perfect pictures. Color is brilliant. I don't think I can get any better TV in the market today. Once you see this TV you don't want to consider any else.

I've had this Sony 36FV15 for a week now and I'm so happy with it. I have it hooked up to cable input, DVD, VHS player and Playstation (and still have one more A/V input to spare!)
DVD system is a Toshiba SD3109...picture quality is tremendous. Hooked it up with Monster Video 3 Component hookups. Cable system also hooked up with Monster cable inputs (made quite a difference over my older cable connection). Playstation is hooked up with S-Video inputs, also a perfect picture. VHS, I'm not too interested in at this point because of the DVD stuff.

Features on the TV are great. I still can't get over the flatness..I have a flatscreen Sony computer monitor (F500) as well and I can't go back to a curved screen...ever!

Also bought the SU-36XBR2 TV stand...it's made to fit the TV perfectly. Quite a nice combo.

I wish it didn't have a limit on the titling of channels (only supports 12) but not a great problem, esp if you turn on "XDS" (eXtended Data Services) which gives me not only channel, but program information including TV show/movie name, total time and time remaining. It's a pretty cool feature. PIP is nice as well. Very flexible PIP settings.

I'll stop raving now....

I had a 27" Magnovox that was about 6 years old. The picture quality is the best that I have seen on the market. I looked at every set available at Good Guys, Circuit City, Costco, and Sam's Club before purchasing this unit. The component vedio input allows for amazing picture clarity and performace. My only problem now is that I can't get my family away from it long enough to record and liston to music from my new receiver, speakers, and CD player!

Strength:

Absolutely georgous picture, great sound, overall great unit.

Weakness:

This thing is H E A V Y ! ! ! !

This was an excellent product right from the beginning. Sony is legendary for quality and the wega is a flagship for SDTV. The only difference between this and the XBR was Infrared cordless headphones( useless and uncomfortable ), a remote with a joystick on it (?!?), and the 3 line digital comb filter instead of a 3D digital comb filter (useless from what I understand when you pump an S-Video signal in i.e. the signal bypasses the filter on direct in). It's the same tube, same everything. Oops, the XBR has 5 extra watts per channel, useless, when you mute the TV and run the audio through a 1000watt home system.

It was cumbersome at first to set the pictures up, but if you customize the video modes to antenna, dvd, etc, and just take the time to do it right, everything is smooth after that. The picture is great, the detail level is fantastic, and the response of the unit makes it worth my time and money to purchase. Integrate this with a Philips Pronto remote to complement you home entertainment system, and you have yourself a winner ! ! !
