Strength:

Excellent design,excellent picture quality(almost)

Weakness:

Fuzzy left side of screen

First I just want to let the person know right below me that there is a pitch adjustment on the TV setup screen, so if everything was crooked when you saw it at your friends house, you should be nice and go over there and adjust it for them. OK lets see here... I have gone through a few of these TV's, every one I bought(3 of them) were fuzzy slightly on the left side of the screen, so if there was a sports score up in the left hand corner.. it would be fuzzy and hard to read, same with the rest of the left side.. about 4 inches of the screen from top to bottom After I returned 3 of these I finally found one that didnt do it.. or at least not as bad and was acceptable. Other than that this TV is excellent, I get compliments up the wazoo on how nice the design is and how nice the picture looks, I have a Panasonic A120U hooked up via the component video ins on the TV and it looks "absolutely movelous". The colors are very vibrant and unsaturated. Anyway thats about it, email me if you know anything about the fuzzy left side and if anyone who is reading this ever figured out why the Wegas are like that, or if I happened to get a bad batch of them. email me at castle@efn.org

Strength:

Overall picture detail and color.

Weakness:

Misalignment

I am rating this after seeing it in a friend's home. He thinks the picture is great. I did not have the heart to tell him it's crooked. Yes, like the yoke is twisted a few degrees to the left, the picture lists, if you will the right. Quite noticeable on widescreen programs, but very noticable with lots of text on the screen.
The picture is tilted! A $1500+ set with a tilted picture is unforgiveable.
Maybe my friend tilts his head all the time when watching it so doesn't notice. Still under warranty, I would be screaming to have it fixed.
I will wait for then next generation or two to come out before jumping into the realm of Wegas....There are other fine conventional sets out there for half the price. And other than the flat screen, and don't forget the tilt, it offers no real advantage to me. It's not even digital.
A rush to market on Sony's part. Guess it's been paying off for them.

Strength:

Unbelievable picture, flat screen, easy to set up and calibrate

Weakness:

Remote stinks, unbelievably heavy (weakness?)

THis is one of the most unbelievable TV's on the market today for the price. I have returned two Toshibas (one for the infamous moire problem and one because the picture was oversaturated and pinkish and I could never get it calibrated correctly) and I must say that I am ecstatic about the Sony. The colors on my DVD's (Boogie Nights, Armageddon, Toy Story II) are beautiful without oversaturation and the picture detail is excellent. With a "digital cable" signal, the picture again was very good (as good as your signal allows) and watching NFL games is a treat again...no oversaturation of color and wonderful detail on the players/fans. For a $1700 purchase, I think the remote should have more functions for DVD and receivers, but overall I am very pleased with this purchase. I will buy a Pronto or Marantz MKII to make up for the remote.

My system:

Sony Vega KV36FV16
Pioneer Elite VSX 27 receiver
Pioneer Elite DV05 DVD player
Phase Technology Teatro speakers all around
Paradigm subwoofer
Audioquest Diamond Speaker cables
BetterCables.com interconnects and component video connections

Sorry for posting twice, I didn't include a valid email address below.

I questioned my salesrep about a loud Zolt that happens whenever I turn my KV-36FV26 Vega on when it's cold (ie For the first time of the day). If I let it warm up for a couple of minutes this does not happen if I switch the power off and on again. The saleman tells me that this is normal. Can this be true? Do other people have the same thing happen to them?

Thanks for any info.

In response to Rob, What you are hearing is the set "degauss". It is a necessary function for large CRT televisions. What it does is send a current through coils on the crt to set the uniformity of the purity/landing to get the best picture. It will only do it once, unless the set is off for more than 10-15 mins. I hope this helped. Enjoy your SONY.

I bought a demo set at Costco, and they didn't have any of the packing materials or original box. When taking the set home in a rented truck, it fell over on its face (and it was raining). Needless to say, when I got the 235lb. set home, it didn't work (there was sound though). I wanted this set so bad, I went to Circuit City and bought an un-opened one and paid $400.00 more than I would have at Costco (they were out of stock-list at $1499.99) Circut City sells them for $1799.00 here in chicago, but they came down to $1699.00. I had this set delivered to my house (smart move) and I love it. Picture is great, and if i can figure out how to hook up my new Sony 5.1 receiver to get rear surround, i'll be all set.

I received this set one week ago. I paid $1,470 at Circuit City. The picture and features are simply the best on the market today. The remote is very weak--keys are small and it will not allow you to work a DVD and VCR. The matrix sound is not bad, but it certainly cannot compare to a good surround system. The component vedio connections produce an amazing picture.

Strength:

super picture, mega jack panel.

Weakness:

expensive BUT OH YA!

If you want the best without going $6-10 grand on hi-definition. This is great on a satalite tv and DVD player. If you
less than perfect reception it's high contrast will show it. RAZOR SHARP PICTURE!!

Strength:

Amazing picture, Flat Anti-Reflective Screen, and Great Looking Design

Weakness:

Heavy!

First bought the KP-53S70 Bigscreen, but the picture looked poor and washed out. Returned it for the Wega KV-36F15 and loving it. Screen is smaller, but picture is so much better. I haven't had any problems that others reported, such as geometry problems or any fuzziness anywhere; and hope I never will. Picked it up at Circuit City for $1,799. How did you other guys get yours for so cheap? Anyway loving the cool silver face, lot better than the usual boring black. Design, fits quite nicely in my living room. The weight problem wasn't a big issue at first, because I hade it delivered. It didn't become a problem till I got an A/V reciever. I had to move the damm thing myself so I could hook up S-Link connection. I ALMOST THREW OUT MY BACK!!! THIS THINGS HORRIBLY HEAVY!!! Besides the wieght I havn't had any problems and loving every minute I stare at it. On or OFF.
